Mehn, I love this analysis, but let me ask some questions

The MTN stuff, did you get an electrician to rewire your house? Will you advise one go for it nowadays? Does the MTN stuff come with panels, or how exactly does it work?

The bona freezer, does it come with the complete setup or what?

Finally, since you're still connected to NEPA, doesn't charging the inverter eat up the units, for those using prepaid?

Thanks in advance

No, the bona freezer came on its own singularly. It was a Nairalander that also first opened my eyes to it. I bought the 3 solar panels and the solar charge controller separately, the freezer comes with a plug if you want to plug it to light directly though.

2. I don’t have an inverter with the freezer. The battery is dc and the freezer is dc. I just connected it directly.

3. The Mtn inverter is dc as well and has its own bulbs and charging slots. So the bulbs are beside my own house ‘Nepa’ bulbs. Yes, I called an electrician but only because I didn’t want to enter the ceiling by myself to place the bulbs.

I know that Lumos has better one of sales deals now for their inverters.

I signed up for that yearly plan that time because it was kind of like a guarantee that the inverter would at least work for the 5 years that I am paying the money for, all this solar things can be very flimsy.

I have bought more than 6 of this boxes for my friends and family , (I’m not kidding ) , and the only 1 box that developed a fault within the 5 years was replaced by the company at no cost to us.

I paid weekly for 5 years till it was paid off, I am still using it 4 years after. Total of 9 years. The battery is not as strong as it was when I bought it, but yea, I wasn’t thinking I would use it forever na, even if it lasted for only 5 years it would have still been a good deal for me.

I'm interested

Oh boy , I can’t remember the name o… but it’s tubular sha , it’s all the ones that they recharge the water. I’ve not had to recharge the water though,

Maybe because it only powers the freezer sha

Edited: I went to snap the battery and saw the name. But I don’t really think a brand matters with this type of tubular batteries sha.

What is mtn lumos?

It was an inverter that Lumos brought in with partnership with Mtn,

We used to pay for it by loading Mtn recharge cards, then they debit your balance.

Guess the best part of this deal for me that time ?

I was on this Mtn plan that when I load recharge card they give me bonus credit to call.

So I would load the 3500 that I wanted Lumos to debit, Mtn would give me 3500 bonus,

Lumos would now remove the original 3500 in my credit balance , but I still had 3500 bonus to call with.

Mehn , it was so sweet grin grin grin it was as if I was not paying for my airtime that time

Do u have inverter?

Of course, I have a felicity hybrid inverter.

Okay.

So u use only solar panels to charge ur batteries?

Yeah bro, if you have enough panels that won't be an issue.
Even on rainy days I dey get light.
Re: Guys Using Solar Energy Instead Of Nepa Or Gen. by Love800(m): 6:16pm On Feb 20
I heard dat using only solar for all ur appliances is harmful to the batteries. Dat one should still use nepa light.

Using solar to power freezers, pumps could damage batteries. Even if u have quality or many batteries. That is what one bros said here. What is ur view about dis?

You need lifepo4/lithium batteries not those cheap lead acid/tubular batteries.
I'm 3 years on full solar power.

Again make sure you have enough solar panels and use your heavy appliances during the day, at night only use your light bulbs and small appliances.

I suggest inverter first, then battery, then solar.

Who buys battery and keep?
Ba3 should be the last in case your plans didn't work out as proposed, you can easily sell the solar panels and inverter

I want to ask a question.
Must one buy inverter along with solar?

If you don't have your own house, just buy hybrid inverter and batteries. You can charge the ba3s with public power supply pending the time you move to your house.

If you want to use it to pump water just go for solar pump. You can also by a soft starter or VFD to reduce the starting current of your pump motor.
If you want to use it with AC, make sure is the inverter AC.

Inverter first, battery second... The duo will back you up. Solar is secondary

I think the poster meant to say, one should buy a hybrid inverter first, then batteries. That way, you can use the grid to be charging your batteries. Then, when you have enough money, buy solar panels too.

Roughly 250 - 300 if you're doing it yourself.

100 ah battery (around 100 - 120k)
30ah MPPT controller (around 70k)... or get the common small PWM one for 7k for a start.
300 - 400 watt panel (50 - 70k)
And wiring...
1000 watt inverter: 25 - 30k. (or pure sine wave like 70k above)

Peace...
Thanks for the breakdown.

You are very right you don’t have to sustain on only solar it will even damage your battery phone battery and shorten the life of your appliances I swear nothing like raw electricity

Nothing like that. Stop saying what you don't know.
Solar is much more efficient in preserving electronics than raw electricity. It is called "Green energy" for a purpose.
