Just wondering if it's a normal thing for buildings to increase rent every single year in Canada, when ready to sign a new lease with a tenant? Anyone with this experience? |
Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Generalmerchant: 3:15am On Mar 02 |
NuCypher:it depends. Most rents increased last year due to inflation. Demand for rentals and hike in mortgage rates. If rates come down this year as speculated, rents will reduce as well hopefully or at least not increase. 1 Like |

Kindly provide more details about your question... E.g Do u mean that your current lease has expired and the landlord wants to increase the rent? In Ontario, there is something called rent control. The Ontario rent increase guideline for 2024 is 2.5%. The guideline is the maximum a landlord can increase most tenantsโ rent during a year without the approval of the Landlord and Tenant Board. For most tenants, your rent canโt go up by more than the rent increase guideline for every year. The guideline does not apply to: new buildings, additions to existing buildings and most new basement apartments that are occupied for the first time for residential purposes after November 15, 2018 NuCypher: 4 Likes |

Pleasant19: Ha, how so? Employer basically filed for you and you're not obligated to work for them Wouldn't the pregnancy have come up in the medical exam or at the border. Shouldn't they as employer have some access to the medical report? |

It depends on when the person did medicals. Given how slow Canada immigration is, the medicals may have been done before the person got pregnant. I don't think they can deny someone on work permit entry based on being pregnant. This is one of the reasons why it is difficult to employ a stranger on the home child care program from outside the country. The time to process the application is so long. It may take close to 3 years. I employed a relative in 2021, submitted application in January 2021, they just got passport request. Taal17: 1 Like |
