Uyo doesn't look like capital of large volume oil producing state. It's look like village.
From the pictures you can see there's a large volume of poverty in this capital city. you can imagine the poverty in other locagovernment.

Village looking capital city. Africa standard.

Government officials in that state would rather see people poor than developed them.

The HDI in Akwaibom state is very low compared to some Eastern or western states in Nigeria.

What about other places in Akwa Ibom No other city apart from Uyo?

Even uyo is not totally built up. They have the potential to be the most viable and beautiful city with their JB roads. Few years from now, those infrastructure/little gains will start decaying just like you have in calabar.
Human development will always be the difference in any society.

I recommend that the Government of Akwa Ibom considers transforming UYO into an Information Technology hub. The state possesses the necessary capacity for such a development. Converting the large cathedral into a substantial IT Center could foster indigenous participation in the IT sector, addressing the current scarcity of companies in the region.

Akwa-Ibom, Beautiful state. They made good use of their Oil money. Huge money with very little people.

Uyo is actually Nigeria's best secret.

But they should do more by bringing their people out of poverty. They have one of the poorest people in southern Nigeria.

Infrastructures alone do not build people, Human Capital Development does.

Akwa-Ibom Ayaya!
Who told that Akwa Ibom state has very little people?
This is the height if insanity!
By the way, AKS is not foot-dragging in Human Capital Development, it has invested heavily in human capital development, but you don't expect the result to be visible overnight.
Please tell us another thing cuz this is stale!

The dearth of infrastructure in Akwa Ibom necessitated infrastructural renaissance by successive Aksg, this is paying off by opening up the state for more investment by the private sector, which in turn has ramped up the revenue that comes into the government purse for more investment in human capital development.
Trust me, Akwa Ibom has silently attracted more investment than many states in the last 10 years, thanks to her infrastructural development and don't forget the transfer of knowledge in the course of building these infrastructure.

Akwa Ibom cannot really do more than she is doing pending when Nigeria is restructured and states are allowed to manage their resources and develop at their own pace.

You are holding back Akwa Ibom from developing and still blaming Akwa Ibom.
Una dey mad o....

Akwa Ibom is not like other states that everything starts and ends in the state capital.
Eket, Ikot Ekpene, Abak, Oron, Ikot Abasi are other notable places in Akwa Ibom.
You can live in these places without any reason to go to Uyo.

Scanty environment that is attracting people from other states? Clown!
It is obvious that you haven't been to Uyo recently otherwise you wouldn't be commenting from the position of gross ignorance.
Uyo as we speak is expanding massively and swallowing up the neighbouring local government like Ibesikpo, part of Etinan, Oron, uruan etc. no thanks to population explosion.

Beautiful infrastructure but the people of Uyo need to start investing in structure.

The roads are good sincerely, I love it
Which structures are you talking about? Uyo that is littered with world class iconic structures unlike your states with unaesthetic and boxy residential houses everywhere, that relegate your state capital to a mere concrete jungle.

Uyo is currently the envy of private realtors because of serious investment in the state so rest oga.
From Nnwaniba to The Victor Attah Airport flank is a beehive of real estate development.
Just imagine the beauty of this neighbourhood and you want to turn into another Onitsha with buildings everywhere.
Uyo needs more trees and green areas than structures.

I'm saying uyo is too scanty for my liking.
It doesn't even have a proper urban planning for future development of world class inner streets like Owerri.
All the beauty you see in Owerri today, had a design and strictly adhered to

Uyo is not totally built up since it is a work in progress.
Morever, Akwa Ibom just started developing after the onshore/offshore brouhaha, however she has surpassed those states that were previously ahead of her.
Who was talking about Akwa Ibom/Uyo until recently? This is a testament to the significant progress that the successive government of the state has made.

Incidentally, Akwa Ibom/Uyo is not Calabar, the resources to maintain the infrastructure is there and the state is endowed with visionary leaders unlike other states, so don't expect Akwa Ibom/Uyo to become another Calabar in few years.
It should interest you to know the government of the state has come up with a proposal for the creation of Akwa Ibom State Infrastructure and Asset Management Agency, this will ensure an efficient management and maintain of infrastructure in the state.
Below is what the proposal covers:
Feed your eyes and cure your ignorance.

Re: Beautiful Pictures From Uyo by Eastlink(m): 2:00pm On Mar 02
Uyo is a lovely city. Peaceful, neat, hospitable, with good roads. It also a tourist destination with it's lush hotels, green environment and beautiful people. I actually missed their beautiful women, they make good wife grin. The only issue with Uyo is the acute brokeness of it's indigenes. Although they hustle hard, but comfortable with the little they have. Way too comfortable which seems to be a disadvantage when it comes to creating and distributing wealth.

I was there in October last year. Saw their airport and the dual road leading to the main town. The town is sleepy. Too sleepy for my likeness. Money is not evenly distributed among the people with a few well to do guys working for the government and a few oil firms. Those who bring in money into the city are its indigenes in places like Lagos, Abuja and abroad. And you could see their efforts from the real estate happening in new towns that the government has helped developed in Uyo capital. I was impressed with the large number of Igbos in the state, mostly engaging in business activities. They are also a few Yoruba, Hausa and other tribes there as well.

I think the government has to do more to drag industries to the city. Like creating more industrial estate, empowering youths with loans to establish cottage firms and collaborating with neighbouring states in the South-East to build joint infrastructures like seaport and railway. This will help push businessmen in places like Aba, Nnewi, Onitsha and even Lagos etc to use the seaport facility and in turn site industries in the state.

Pained soul tell us your city.
No one is saying that Uyo has arrived but it is glaring that the place is advancing.
In the early 2000s Uyo was still a typical village, even Eket was more popular than her cuz of Mobil, however the tide has turned and that explains why you are tagging Uyo the most overhyped city in Nigeria.
You have not seen anything yet, just wait until the Deep Seaport, BUA refinery, Morroccan fertilizer/petrochemical plant, the first indigineous floating NLG, Liberty Free Trade Zone, Ibom Industrial city etc all come onstreams, na went una go get heart attack pass.

Yeah I agree. The agricultural activities in those areas ensures the abundance of food. And also the money that comes from the diaspora community helps circulate money with also salaries from government workers.

Oh you want to compare Uyo with your filthy and roadless Owerri! Owerri should fix her filth, roadlessness and deplorableness first before she can cough when Uyo is talking.
Additionally, Uyo can never be as populated as other state capitals because Akwa Ibom is blessed with other towns that boast of modest infrastructure, unlike Imo state that everybody has to live in Owerri before they can enjoy basic amenities.
In Akwa Ibom, you can live in Eket, Ikot Abasi, Ikot Ekpene, Abak, Oron etc without any reason to visit Uyo
Below is Eket, one of the notable towns in Akwa Ibom.
This town has an airstrip, general hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, stadium, etc infact it was more popular Uyo until recently.
