it is a very good suggestion and as a matter of fact how it's supposed to have been done, assuming Nigeria and it's leadership were not at the mercy of a grab-and-runaway-with-it politicians. But,however, sir Makinde, please try as much as possible to learn from what happened to senator Ningi,. You are in a very good position to know better that our country Nigeria is gone,so subtly join the bandwagon before the group of 'emperial highnesses' reasons your case 14 Likes 4 Shares |

Wow, an elected politician with common sense. This man is correct anout the redundant bureaucracy. Pass the amendment in NASS then Kick it to the state assemblies to debate and ratify. The feds don't need to micromanage the process. Leave it that to state assemblies. If these policemen break the laws or violate rights go ahead and prosecute them in federal court. PS: The executives don't get a vote on constitutional amendment. Its all about the NASS and State Assemblies. 44 Likes 3 Shares |

Here is an intelligent man speaking. Tinubu's govt revels in playing to the gallery, being loud on everything and public posturing while pushing the buck down the road. They and their propaganda team have found a new canon fodder in state govs whom they use to hide their indecision and inefficiencies. Just like the claim of giving 30bn to state govs, increased allocation to state govs when in real terms the value is less, the state police is another one they've adopted same tactics. Another one is the minimum wage committee. They've been going from zone to zone asking what each labour movement wants when they already know they have no intention of using those inputs. Just a jamboree and waste of time. At the end, the minimum wage will linger beyond the time legally set by law for its operation. I haven't been impressed with this govt. The business of governance has been totally abysmal and it's easy to see that they don't have any solution to the main questions neither do they even pretend to. The little reprieve they got in exchange rate and they've been chestbeating like they just got Nigeria to Singaporean Eldorado when in actual fact, they are back to the same Buhari and Emefiele policies they maligned. Chief of staff budget got ballooned. A certain minister is asking for security votes which if allowed will open the door for others to do same. Imagine 48 security votes at federal level minus that of the president. Then some fools will tell you to go and hold the 36 state govs accountable. No sane and honest Nigerian has any business voting this govt beyond 2027. The cluelessness and corruption is unprecedented. 26 Likes 2 Shares |

Everyone knows it is a constitutional matter, however, how can it be fasttracked if governors do not show commitments knowing that the amendements of the constitution largerly depend on the governors. For the creation of police and other issues, the lawmakers both at national and state levels receive greenlight from their governors. The executive knows very well the type of people they're dealing with, disloyal and unstable characters. If you all met together and agreed, why not back it up and submit your report?. A lot of the times, these people agree over an issue at NEC but go back to their states and do otherwise. 30 Likes |

Mr governor ... The states request for police from the federal government. But you said it is a waste of time to submit your views on how you want ant it to work but you want it to go to the national assembly directly where they know nothing than money to just approve it like that without national security adviser's office? Oga it is like you don't have what to write about state police. State Police is more than what only the national assembly will Handle but all stake holders need to have input on how it will work without becoming a fighting tools in the hand of you politicians. 46 Likes 6 Shares |

It does not depend on the governors, they're are not law makers but executives. Get the NASS to work then fave the state houses of assemblies. If you guys are not ready for democracy and take decisions as it should, then military should step in Putindbutt: 25 Likes 1 Share |

The minority have been saying NO to State Police but let's get on with it and we later go back to blaming and blaming. The Emperors in the States will make sure this decision is regretted, some cannot pay minimum wage, pensions, gratuity, you want them to have State Police? Ok nah....... 6 Likes 1 Share |

fergie001:Look, it's not by force The electricity law has been changed Has any state built a turbine after the signing? Let the law come into effect Those who need it will take advantage and implement and those who do not will overlook it. This Tinubu- led FG is unserious about every issue of governance. Why ask govs to individually submit reports like secondary school students on a purely national legislative matter? I think the governors are being maligned in this way. They want to turn them to mere appendages which they can use to hide their inefficiency. 4 Likes |

The National Security Adviser needs to see the template to be adopted by each state, to be sure it would not impede on National interest or even international interest ... I don't know why their is a communication gap, of course the National Economic Council knows it has to be funded with money , perhaps they are more concerned with the Financial consequences of such endeavor, maybe they could suggest a slight reduction in the allocation to the Federal Government to enable the states manage their security outfit. 4 Likes |

Kukutente23: Seyi is right and should speak for himself. What NEC want to know is if this governors can finance state police. 30k minimum wage was passed into law how many of them are paying?? Tomorrow now this same governors will cry FG forced them into state policing like the minimum wage. Let know who can and can't carry the burden now before passing it into LAW. 7 Likes |
Re: Memoranda Submission For State Police By Govs A Waste Of Time – Makinde by happney65: 7:01am On Mar 25 |
Seyi knows exactly what he is saying. As a state that has a mini state police,The Amotekun force, that has gone a long way in aiding Security doing these things are not rocket science. Guess he has seen the FG isn't serious and there won't be any sort of restructuring whatsoever under Tinubu that is why he is coming out to say this. Like myself and my Dad were discussing yesterday, Nothing called restructing will happen under Tinubu because like the coward he is,He is afraid of the North The North like the parasite they are. They do not want restructuring of any kain because if they do,they should be the ones calling for state policing ever ever since. But because they are okay with the current situation of things and are not bothered whatsoever. If truly Tinubu wants it,the process for state policing and state being in control of their resources and true federalism should have started immediately he was sworn in by starting the process at the National Assembly and it be made law. States submitting a so called memorandum is just a complete waste of time and wont bring about anything When Amotekun was to be founded, they sent it to their various State Houses of Assembly, they passed it and it became Law. But Tinubu will keep on playing you people the very way he is playing Labour Nonesense and Tinubu 6 Likes |

Godoverevery:Not all the states need police The law can't be subject to ability of all the states to implement It's good you mentioned minimum wage. Do you now also imply that since some states govs don't implement minimum wage, we shouldn't have any review of the minimum wage as stipulated by law? You can't make laws based on convenience. A gov that claims he doesn't have funds to implement state police, you can have another gov who will implement it tomorrow. It is even better if the state police is enacted since all the govs have security votes already. So using NEC to drive a legislation that requires constitutional amendment is simply a waste of time! 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Kukutente23: Once again if this should back fire FG will be one to receive all the blame. Who proposed state police .....is it FG or NASS We hardly blame governors for anything in this country.......everything nah presidency I totally support every governor submitting how he want to go about and finance state police before sending it to NASS for any amendment. Nigeria governors are crooks and the presidency know they can never be trusted. 4 Likes |
Re: Memoranda Submission For State Police By Govs A Waste Of Time – Makinde by Kukutente23: 9:32am On Mar 25 |
Godoverevery:Since FG will receive all the blame, does it not then make sense for FG to drive the agenda so that they take blame or praise for their works and not that of others? State Police has been a subject since the start of this republic. It is the political wills by the presidents on seat that has stalled its implementation just as was with the PIA. When you say Nigerian govs are crooks, i hope you realise both the president and VP are former govs as well. Are they also crooks or former crooks? Remember state police has been on the table since 1999. All the above are a diversion though. Seyi Makinde's point which is very correct is that it's a legislative agenda not executive. So NEC asking governors to write briefs on what they constitutionally have no jurisdiction over is simply a waste of time. It is a ploy to waste time and but time for only God knows that reason. We've had constitutional amendments since 1999 and every president have signed amendments to the constitution and none have ever asked governors to submit briefs. There are so many reports existing on state police already. |

State policing is something that should be done by state by government and federal government, do your part before pointing others to do theirs, submitting your review shows you are in agreement with it. Small thing, nobody wants to do. Everybody prefer talking. 4 Likes |

State police is not the solution to our current security challenges. At least 80% of security breaches in Nigeria is linked to the current economic situation in the country.Economic crime can not be resolved by state police. The problem of lack of funding, equipments and man power cannot be resolved by state police. Not more than 4 states in Nigeria can adequately fund state policing. |
Re: Memoranda Submission For State Police By Govs A Waste Of Time – Makinde by SoNature(m): 10:06am On Mar 25 |
Bola Tinubu should have set up a committee that will detail how it will work, how it will be financed, defend the proposal before all stakeholders and set the processes in motion until it is achieved. Running a country shouldn't be rocket science! I don't understand why it's a big deal in Nigeria. 1 Like |

State police is a waste of time. Federal Soldiers were killed in Ukuama/Okolobo crisis The Federal Government had to roll in the tanks and set up a garrison command there. What will state police do ? Some of these states shouting state police can hardly feed themselves. Their IGR is chicken change. State police is going to be a disaster in Nigeria. It will only serve as an oppression tool. Even if we have state police, we still need 100% Federal Oversight. The only thing thats making the bourgeoise clamour for state police is they want to prevent any inconveniences due to "orders from Abuja". Once there is state police some people become 100% untouchables in their states. Even if they commit murder openly, they wont be arrested. 2 Likes |
