He joined Sittard just last year ooo.

lovewins:

Not sure that is a fair assessment. He's been a coach since 2016 and a coach of his current club since 2018. 8 years provides enough time and enough data to make judgement on how good he his.

This is wrong. You are giving other coaches' credits to Danny Bruijs who only joined Fortuna Sittard in June/July last year.

ChrisKels:

Seems the man replaced Oliseh and has managed to keep the club in the Dutch topflight

The website I sourced the information from probably isn't up to date. The crux of the point made still remains though. He's been. A coach for quite a while.

Throwback to when TheGoodJoe and I literally discussed this Cole Palmer kid when he was still rising at Man City U21s

TheGoodJoe:
@TheSuperNerd

I just noticed something from Manchester City U23 game.

Remember I talked about curling shots and how to break compact defences.

In one of the games, he used Cole Palmer as the Hitman and the striker to spread the defence.

It worked to a devastating effect of the opposition. The last goal was an icing on the cake and a reminder of the curling shots I talked about.

So the shooters are the creative attack midfielders. The drive shots or make driving runs. Also comfortable on the ball and good in tight spaces.

I think this role will suit Iheanacho and bring out the best in him.

Just noticed Maresca has left Manchester City. Wow.

Naija: Back to Back Euro Top 5 league Champs

Last season, Nigeria had Victor Osimhen conquering a Top 5 Euro league by emerging Serie A Champion.

This season, Nigeria have two in Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella emerging as Bundesliga Champs in the same season that Bayern strengthened with a Harry Kane up top for them.

It's the Nigerian Champions show in Europe's Top 5 leagues back to back. Who will it be next season from Africa's most valuable national team?

We are beginning to see the rise of mega high profile Nigerian players again. Afcon final was no fluke after all. I hope this translates to more superlative performance from the super eagles but when I remember we still have no coach my morale goes low.

Throwback to Palmer at Man City. Chelsea's new savior and their star player and revelation this season.

TheSuperNerd:

Damn!!! This Palmer kid. See what I missed from earlier only because Andy dey make me repeat myself. angry

This is Beautiful.

I also noticed the position in which he received the ball for the last of his 3 goals. He exploited the space/gap between the Central Defensive and defensive Midfield lines towards to the right of the pitch to unleash that curler.
This is something Nacho can do and be more accustomed to even in the Super Eagles under a tactically sound manager.

It's a wickedly sound tactic. The striker keeps the central defence options occupied by drawing them to himself with his movements at the same time the AMF-like operator receives the ball between the gap of the CBs and DM and also in the gap angle between the CB, DM, and FB.

Then with the striker's movement, the CB options are drawn and the AMF/Creative attacking MFs take the hit from there to the target.

This is how an Osimhen-Iheanacho combo can also he utilised in the GWG but we badly need the midfield ballers who can find Nacho constantly between the lines of the opposition half in the final third from where he would either take a strike or pick out a quick pass into Osimhen's path or direct to his feet.

Mehn... thanks for sharing this, My good man. It's lovely.

Cole Palmer with a hattrick still fought for the spot kick with Madueke and Jackson (although in fairness, he is their regular spotkick taker). Won the argument... took the spot kick and makes it 5-0 for Chelsea and 4 for himself.

Greedy Cole... Lol.. but indeed he is Chelsea's pen taker, usually.

Realising that Cole Palmer insisted on taking the penalty even though he already had a hattrick because he knew he was gonna tie Erling Haaland on 20 EPL Goals so far.

To be honest, that's fair enough.

Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye.... Naija GK dept is well secured indeed

Yesterday, Stanley Nwabali produced magic between the sticks again for Chippa Utd in their 2-0 win in the SA Nedbank FA Cup Quarter finals. He helped his side into the Semis with a late penalty save on 88mins with the scores still locked at 1-0 to Chippa before they went on to score a late penalty minutes after Nwabali's Super save.

Maduka Okoye again produced a decent showing for Udinese vs Roma in Serie A, yesterday, in a match that was abandoned eventually in the 83rd min. Prior to this game, Okoye produced near world class Solid showings between the sticks vs Champions-in-waiting, Inter Milan and Sassuolo (his last 2 serie A games before Roma).

Francis Uzoho as well also bagged a cleansheet yesterday for Omonia Nicosia in their 2-0 away at Anorthosis.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Super Eagles GK dept is looking good again. Even better infact. So shall it continue.

Real kudos. That man is one of the brightest coaching talents we have in the country at Cadet and Junior football level. He is tactically sound. Coach of the Beyond Limits FA in the NNL and TCC. Also coached them to the Viareggio cup win. First African side to win that prestigious youth tournament in Italy and gave us good starlets like Onyebuchi Obasi already stepping up in Norway with Vålerenga and is fast grooming a lad that in my opinion will become one of the best Number 9s we might see emerge out of Nigeria soon in Arierhi Kparobo.

He should not be deputizing Garba. He should be the one leading that team. He's more in tune and an excellent coach with proof. Nff should trust these young, reliable managers with cadet jobs and stop all these recycling abeg.

Still on Nigeria's GK dept, a potential Super Eagle, Arthur Okonkwo helped Wrexham gain promotion to the EFL League One 2 days ago.

He was also named in the EFL League Two Team of the Season.

As a football fan, I pity him though. He is such an excellent striker but unfortunately, no trophy to show for it. Very unlucky.

The context of the talk was how focus on pace, intensity and physicality has made magic and fantasy a less-prominent/alien characteristic.

"footballers do more but faster"
Do more what? Is it not that players are now focused on running...in/out of zones/channels. That is obviously why it follows with "There's no need to dribble because you run"

Lastly, the overall direction of the discourse by Thiago, which is a vent at modern football(MF), is a analysis of the impact of the dogmas of MF upon the soul of the game. This makes it very improbable that he is praising any of those dogmas.

To paraphrase:
"In today's game everyone is so concerned about running about so much so that no one spares to express themselves in their football"

Obviously not the whole 10 outfield players will/can be magical but it is draconian that MF is snuffing out the artist and no, it's not because it is harder. You know the examples of artists in current times. It is simply because coaches don't value it.

Argue it as a paradigm shift and not that whatever we have now is superior.

Sorry, but I can't understand how you deciphered that it is just a shift in paradigm and not superior.

Let me give my take.

It’s taken up a different pace, rhythm: more accelerated, more physical (fitness).

This is the context and encapsulates what the discussion is about.

The figure of the No 10 has almost disappeared. We see less magic, less fantasy.

This is what many used to classify the players of the past as better. They had magic and delivered fantasies. We see less of this. Why? The context. The modern players have More accelerated and are more physical.

Footballers do more but faster.

What footballers do more is shown in the stats. Passes, pass completion, tackles, interception, aerial duels, distance covered, chances created, even goals, assists etc. Why? The context Modern players accelerate more and are more physical.

There’s no need to dribble because you run.

You take on players now with speed, not dribbles. Due to the speed and physical nature of modern players.

Players are more developed in every sense.

How this does not equate to superior is a mystery to me. The modern players are more developed than the players of the past. Meaning every quality player, offense and defense can move fast for a long time.

You lose that player who’s different, who ‘breathes’; the playmaker who was slower even if he had sublime technique doesn’t get the opportunity to turn.

Due to the context, with players being faster and physical, we lose players who could stand out. The magicians and fantasy makers. How? They were actually slower. They killed tempo. Today, even if such player has such techniques, he would not have the opportunity to turn. Players are now faster and more physical. Those magic won't pull off like in the past.

Those of us who are not so fast with our legs have to be faster in our heads. It’s like anything in life: adaptation. Things keep moving. Football changes constantly, expressed differently.

Now for the slow ones who are not fast but skillful and intelligen, you need to play with your head. If not, you get swept off by pace and intensity. You need to pass faster, work off the ball intelligently to get into spaces to receive the ball. The creativity now lies in the head.

So, the end point is more acceleration and physical nature of modern players engulfed the magic people loved. This is due to players becoming better unlike the superstars of the past who played against weaker players.

Finito.

It's the "naija way" anyway. They don't seem comfy giving a "youngie" such "huge responsibility" even if he's proven beyond reasonable doubt.

As for me, with all the young managers littered across the footballosphere, no oldie, especially those 15 to 20yrs ones, should near cadet duties again. But, No!!
The guy is very sound. Imagine he succeeds and then churns out b2b talents and performance.
