Gone are the days of newbies with potentials easily getting recruited.
Which newbie can compete against people with > 5 years of work experience?

Even in the US where a lot of opportunities abound, some computer science grads with experience send about 300+ applications and get less than 10 interviews.

How many roles are open in Nigeria?

Any tech person that knows his onion won't send 300+ applications to land an interview.

I wish I could show you lot of unsolicited jobs from foreign companies that I ignored.

If you have to write 300+ applications to land an interview in tech, the problem is not with tech but your skill set. Time to upskill.

As long as you have a bachelors degree with at least 2:1, you can switch.

It will obviously be easier to understand concepts for people in related field, but you can do it.

I know of a Law graduate that had 2:1 at both his university and at law school. He wrote and passed each CFA levels in one sitting(he didn't fail any of the levels) while working as an investment banking analyst.

I know countless people from Sciences and Art backgrounds that wrote and passed ICAN and are now with the big 4 accounting firms.

For the roadmap, google has more information on that.

Is age not a factor in these big 4 when it comes to employment?

But why would a start up pay 500k naira?

Funds to be channeled to research and development ate used to pay unsustainable salaries.

Why won't it collapse?
Abi they are better things to do with the money.

My brother he is right ooo. 500k is nothing if you're good. I was earning 3 times that amount in 2022 until most of us were layed off. Now it's very hard to see 300k salary sef

What is your tech stack?

If you are good, I will link you up to a financial institution in Nigeria.

They just hired 7 newbies yesterday with a minimum salary of 500k per month.

You have to show lots of potentials during the interview. Are you ready?

Bro can you please share the road map?? Is it possible for someone with a life science degree to switch to this role too? Without a degree?

By without a degree, you mean a degree in business courses? The answer is yes you can switch. I know many that did it. You would only need 2.1 and above and go buy fundamental accounting and finance books to get the basic terms and concepts. So it would be harder for you. Asides that you will be fine. ICAN and CFA are highly recommended and globally recognised.

Are you in the U.S ? And lastly What is the minimum wage in Nigeria?? If you want to complain, use the minimum wage first!! If the minimum wage of a country is #33k and you're earning #500k monthly! Your head don scatter if you complain!!

I concur. If you have the right skillset there are plenty of jobs for you to choose from. IT-Software Dev is still a more marketable skill than most of the traditional nontech skills.

Hogwash article.

Companies are actively recruiting for experienced hire and newbie who has lot of potentials.

You wont see SKILLED tech guy leaving IT for traditional industries.

There are so many moving parts in IT and you need to be well grounded and see how they influence each other.

I do not know where this op sees this false article. Genuine IT dudes are selling like hot cakes.

That your dream job is 500k doesn't mean others has to settle for your 33k minimum wage.
Some tech certification alone cost 2000$ and you want the person to be happy with 500k job grin
I was earning 200USD a day genuinely when I was in Nigeria so don't think you need to be in the USA to make dollars easily or to earn over 500k a week smiley

Don't just have tech skills, know how to sale yourself and tech products. Having a tech skill is not just enough again and working under start ups should not be more than a year for an ambitious IT guy. Diversify your portfolios invest in ventures like farming, stock, and others with what you get from tech cool

The problem with most tech startup CEOs is that they really don't understand business theories and ethics.

Many are just after the funding and once they get it they begin to employ all employ-ables and pay huge salary without considering that business is structured on making profit.

This often leads to the crash of startups.

Business has it's principles and processes.

Well said.
You only failed to mention the fact that when they get the funding, more often than not, the next thing on the agenda of the promoters is the latest Toyota car in addition to a new life of night clubbing and most likely a change of girl friends probably from ilupeju babes to Lekki babes.

Every figure in a business does not lie.

Hi friends, considering the recent shifts in the tech industry and layoffs, it's understandable to explore other sectors for job security. However, it's worth noting that IT has evolved significantly. Many companies are transitioning to cloud computing for data storage. Investing in cloud computing skills could be a strategic move to stay relevant in the IT field. It's a growing area with increasing demand. Keep updating your skills to stay ahead in the industry.

Which one be property tech? Spleet was never going to make it na. All na this kini kon kini kon companies when the industrial base of a country is almost nonexistent.

For Nigeria to succeed economically, we must go through massive industrialisation in the real sector before entering the service industry. Besides, apart from PayStack and few other fintech companies, how would investors make profit off Spleet when rents are naira denominated?

You cannot blame him. If you were paid 1.5M per month for a while and later earned 500K, your lifestyle and expenses would take a hit. The higher you earn the higher your expenses. Salaries are supposed to be going up, not down.
