We are the source of our problems, go to patrol station in anambra state they sell pms at the rate of #690 and above, because of old stock they have but immediately the price appreciates they will add money immediately.

A lesson I learned some few years back. If you aren't a large scale who sells to distributors, just produce and retail. For example, I pity ppl who produce eggs and sell to retailers. They aren't gonna make money. If you are producing 200 crates weekly and supplying retailers, reduce production to 30 to 50 crates per week and retail yourself. You will make more profit and do less job. Also, those selling chicken meat, too. Selling to cold rooms is out of it. Just sell directly to consumers.

Marketing and retailing are the keys to small-scale businesses. Period! If you can not market and retail your products, you will keep struggling and make people who can market richer.

People are wicked in this country.

Greed will finish us in this country.

Go to trade fare and see how street retailers are ripping us off big time.

My wife bought her body cream CT+ at the rate 2100 at trade fare yesterday while in our area retailers are selling it for 3700.

Kk brothers soap my wife bought the pack for 7k(6pieces) while one is sold for 1700 by retailers.

Her sanitary pad she bought 1 pack at the rate of 1050 while retailers sell for 1700.

Even strike bitters sachet pack(20 pieces) wey I dey always use console myself i buy for 2000 she got it for 1450.

Note she didn't even buy at carton price but at pack price because if she was buying in carton the price would be lower that than.

Just yesterday I bought a derica of rice on my way back home for 900 around oshodi terminal while the seller in my street is still selling for 1300 despite price of bag of rice coming down.

We are own problem.......everyone is wicked in this country.

Well, humans have to make profit, and humans are suffering apc shege, and retailers are.not insulated

keep quiet . Seems u love the economic hazards that Nigerians has faced unfortunately before but let me remind you that inflation has reduced, the naira has appreciated manifestly and there are signs that prices of goods are coming down well. How can you be unconscionable to support high inflation in a country instead of economic stability. U eagerly want people not to afford good things of life and that they should struggle because of inflation. See the price disparity between trade Fair market dealers and the local retailers around you and u are here trying to justify why commodities should be more expensive to what end? For your selfish reasons or to make most Nigerians not to be able to afford necessary basic commodities for themselves and their familiies.
How can retailers be changing prices like 3-4 times or more in the space of 2 months.thats abnormal. There is no famine and yet some retailers skyrocket their prices.they are truly greedy and it's either you are a member of Lagos chamber of commerce and industry or u are a typical business man retailer who just wants to make all gains from selling market.dollar is going down now so stop your selfish stories and defense. Prices of goods must come down.the federal competition and consumer protection commission would soon visit Lagos to stop this anomaly.

Okay, open your own shop and sell things at a price the poor can afford

You will find you can't sustain it.

Sadly, things cost money and people like to be paid too

You shouldn't have contributed to the topic. Op didn't say don't make a profit or there shouldn't be different in prices of the same items but the differences shouldn't be too much

And you should realize that things are not easy, hence the prices jumping up.

Unless you are arguing government should set prices. Which I think you are doing. And as history tells us,

Plus, trade fair ground is run by wholesalers , and I daresay the retailers outside buy from there.

Seriously, why do you people have to be so abusive?

If I called you wicked human, you won't like it.

It's called 'competition'...plus, if there is an ongoing trade fair programme, goods there are very likely to be cheaper...because they are likely direct from manufacturer.

The chaps that sell outside trade fair, they buy from wholesalers. Prices go up

Again, they are also suffering the same hardship. They have to make money to eat, to pay taxes, market dues, etc. etc. And they still have to buy new stock whose prices go up....

Unless you want price control (last time we tried it, we ended up with scarcity and queues).
you have said all the common sense eveeyone ought to have.

Don't mind those people complaining o. They themselves are also selling something. And ignorant People elsewhere are also complaining about their prices too.

Indeed.

Economy is hard. And retailers too are also Nigerians. It's not like they have someone dashing them 10000 dollars us every day.

Think on that.

At the end , things cost money after all.

So, you've now agreed that the petrol subsidy removal in a strikingly corrupt country can only cause hardships on the people, as i told you then?

Some of you are not familiar with the true nature of Nigeria, but stay abroad and preach/support yeye policies pulled out of Economics textbooks.
As the people now suffer and curse, let us pray their curses won't have much effects on you guys who imposed the hardships on them.

1. I still stand by subsidy removal. It has a lot of problems, it is why until dangote we did not have domestic refining, and why we became a net importer of petrol. And why we lost billions for nothing

2. Our economy has never been good because it is not diversified and it cannot attract investment. I support subsidy removal on power and petrol because it would attract more investment, meaning more jobs and eventually a better economy via diversification.

The main issue with our economy is it's reliance on oil .. fluctuating oil prices over the years has so messed up our economy and left us vulnerable to debts and more.debt and inflation

Yeah, if the prices are too high, after some time, the retailer would be forced to bring it down

(As seen in the perishables business here).

This again shows your total lack of familiarity with the Nigerian environment

You need to quit commenting on threads dealing on the Nigerian economy to avoid unleashing more sufferings on the people.

so retailers are supposed to add whatever refreshments they took to the cost of their goods ?
You should have said they should as well add all their family members bills to whatever they sell

This is definitely coming from a salary earner with no understanding of what business is.

You think business is about emotions or good man show?

Let me point the facts to you.

You said you bought a pack of your soap for ₦7,000 (6pc in it) that's approximately ₦1,170 per pack but retailers sell ₦1,700 per pack.

That is a difference of ₦530 profit per.

You calculated their profit per pack but removed eyes from their cost.

Are you aware that before leaving the market, agberos will take their levy?
Trade fair security will take their levy too
They will transport back to their base/shop
They will pay Malama in and out of the market to carry their goods?
When they get to the shop, they will pay shop rent
They will pay local govt tax
They will pay lawma
They will pay NEPA bill
They will buy fuel for generator
They will even pay sales girl (if they have)
They will also feed and pay themselves from the business.
They will even factor risk of goods getting spoilt or expired in their shop.

You didn't factor all these because you think business is a charitable cause where someone slaves for you to get things for free.

If it is easy, quit your job and start up a business

See there no justification for this pure greed......do know our much my wife save up.

In this my same area we got to found out pure company was selling bag for 300 and retailers were selling for 600.

It won't just make sense for me to snap those things she got and how angry we are with the ripped off since buying from those greedy retailers.

The soap I use i got it for 700 the last time my wife wife bought the pack (6pieces) 2400.

There is a particular sweet she loves the aboki sells 2 50 and even tells my wife he just pity her that he gains nothing selling that price....she got the pack for 450 (40 pieces) inside.

People in trade fare pay tax even there shops is even more expensive....from our place to trade fare she spent 2k to and fro so there is absolutely no justification for such greed.

Since you and your wife knows the source, open a shop and start the business and control your price let's see how long you will last.

If you goto China to buy where people from trade fair buys you will still come here to shout how people from trade fair and buying cheap and selling too high to us.

You can as well goto China and cut off trade fair people.
