Ignorance all over the thread. While i agree that most of the speaking in tongues you hear are not real, speaking in tongues is not limited to human language. What exactly is the sense in speaking in a human language that neither you nor the people that may hear you don't understand? Speaking in tongues is primarily to God. The speaking in tongues to men either comes as a human language or with interpretation. i speak English, you speak English, why should the Holy Spirit make you speak Spanish to me? Is it a showboat exercise or what? |

Image123:Even when you speak in an unknown tongue to God in a public setting, it should be accompanied by interpretation This is the message in 1 Corinthians 14 To my knowledge, I am yet to see any existing evidence of a televangelist or any big man of God in Nigeria, hosting religious service speaking in tongues with someone interpreting it. If you find anyone, share it here Secondly, trying to find logic in religion is a flawed approach. Logic is used to discredit religion not to support it. Example: if God loves everyone equally, why did he say Esau I have hated and Jacob I have loved even whilst they were in the womb? Do not try to use logic to find reasoning in religion. It is self- defeating.

WeirdAlien:Since you have the gift of speaking In tongues, do you also practice what is recorded in the account of Acts 2:4, 11 by preaching to unbelievers in their native tongues that you've never learnt before? |

MaxInDHouse:Just ignore that guy.....you are giving him oxygen by responding to him. Just ignore him. He's of no benefit in leading anyone to the true religion. If he knew the true religion, he would have been declaring it here. So just ignore him. |

Image123:If speaking or praying in an unknown tongue is speaking primarily to God, why should the person's prayer be audible to others without an interpreter in an effort to convince others that he or she has the gift of speaking In unknown tongues? Should the person not pray in 'silence' to himself and God as stated in 1Cor 14:28? |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by WeirdAlien: 12:18am On Aug 27, 2024 |
Michael547:Are you asking this question because you want to learn about the topic or because you want to discredit speaking in tongues since you don't believe it?? The latter seems to be your reason. If you have indeed read and understood the Acts 2 you're quoting, and other scriptures on the subject, you'll know that NO ONE ever preached to unbelievers in their native tongues. Go and read it again and correct your question if there still is. |

| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by WeirdAlien: 12:49pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Michael547:They spoke other languages - they did not "preach" as you claimed. Besides, NOT EVERY manifestation of the Spirit is in Acts 2. There are others that didn't happen right there but we learned about them later from scriptures - the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), other spiritual gifts in 1 Cor 12:8-10. You need to look at every scriptural references to this subject matter. Study the Bible to well to see the big picture, evaluate what other renowned authors have written - they might point your attention to details you may have missed. I suggest you read books by Kenneth Hagin to have a wider view. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by Michael547(m): 12:53pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
WeirdAlien:Are you saying declaring the wonderful works of God was not preaching? Was the tongues that the disciples spoke at that time not the native tongues of people? Please highlight the details I have missed. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by WeirdAlien: 2:16pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Michael547:Seems it's our understanding of the English that is different. Either way that doesn't change anything else in the comment you quoted, which answers your second question with scriptural references. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by Michael547(m): 2:22pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
WeirdAlien:Oga you claimed that no one preached with the gift of speaking In tongues In the native tongues of people. I have shown you from the Bible that the claim is a lie. The disciples of Jesus actually declared the wondrous works of God to people in their native tongues by speaking in tongues by the Holy Spirit. If you claim to have the gift of speaking In tongues. You must be Able to do what the disciples did because Jesus commanded all Christians to preach. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by WeirdAlien: 6:59pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Michael547:Read your Bible. Obviously you're deliberately picking out one thing you saw and purposefully ignored other biblical references just to justify your dogmatic belief. And when I showed you the verses you couldn't say anything else with scriptural backing, apart from trying to bully your way to affirm a flawed belief on a single scripture. Dig out everywhere speaking in tongues is mentioned in the new testament and tell us how they all imply it is "strictly speaking in other human languages" which you're erroneously inferring. When you do that correctly, I can comment further. You can't invalidate my comments by simply throwing away every bible verse I quoted. You must be able to explain them to support your point. Why are you talking like APC people? |

WeirdAlien:You clearly do not understand me. The gift of speaking In tongues clearly comes in one package which is the ability to speak in the native tongues of people and also to speak in unknown tongues that requires a translator expect you are talking to yourself and God with no third party involved.....so why do you have one and not have the other? |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by Emusan(m): 7:50pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
WeirdAlien:What you're missing is in the very verse you quoted yourself earlier. AMP: And they were all filled [that is, diffused throughout their being] with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues (different languages), as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out [clearly and appropriately]. Acts 2:4 @underlined clearly says "...as the Spirit was GIVING them the ABILITY to speak out.." which means, speaking in tongue is what Holy Spirit does by Himself and whatever the Spirit wants you to proclaim is what you will sound out. Furthermore, Apostle Paul clearly says their is an Angelic languages as which means a languages that is not spoken by any tribe on earth. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by WeirdAlien: 8:16pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Emusan:You just said exactly what I've been saying since. Speaking in other languages and speaking in unknown language. Two separate manifestations of speaking in tongues. These other guys have been insisting it is only other human languages. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by Michael547(m): 8:19pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
WeirdAlien:Anyone who has the gift of speaking In tongues displays both manifestation. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by Emusan(m): 8:30pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
WeirdAlien:Bible was explicitly clear on the issue of speaking in tongue but they won't agree with the scripture rather go against it. Paul in 1 Corin 14:2 says "For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. Something that is mysterious and no one around you will understand is what they want to limit to human languages. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by WeirdAlien: 8:37pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Michael547:Okay. Give at least two places in the scriptures that establish that as the only possibility - that they must always go together. Second, if someone speaks Russian, Zulu, Aramic or Sumerian beside you, how do you recognize the language since you don't understand it yourself - all you will hear is gibberish and syllabic sounds. Third, from a respectable preacher Kenneth Hagin, he never knew he actually spoke in another human language until one person in the congregation met him later and testified he understood every word Hagin said. So you can speak another language without realising it. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by Emusan(m): 8:39pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Michael547:Your claim initially using Acts 2:4 was that people must understand what you're saying. But here is what Paul said himself. "For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don’t understand what I am saying." 1 Corin 14:14 Today you people will say people who speak in tongue are saying gibberish but here is Apostle confirming that even him speaking don't understand what himself is saying. Which means, if you people are around during the time of Paul, you would have called it gibberish as well. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by Michael547(m): 8:43pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
WeirdAlien:All what you've said is the reason why Paul said that anyone who speak in unknown tongues should translate or have a translator.......Paul said that speaking of unknown tongues should be done turn by turn in the church.....if there was no translator, a person who can only speak in unknown tongues should be 'silent' and speak to himself and God. No one is Obligated to believe that one has the gift of speaking In tongues if he cannot understand what the person is saying. The person could actually be faking it. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by WeirdAlien: 12:56pm On Sep 04, 2024 |
Michael547:This is the point I believe the OP was trying to make. I totally agree. But to say the gift doesn't exist today, or that the two must go together is what I'm disputing here - you failed to establish that scripturally as well. In my first comment that you quoted, I was affirming the existence of the gift, with a personal example. And I also mentioned I never use it unless I'm praying all alone (if prompted). I also indicated that many of what you hear in church are likely fake (my opinion) - random "regegegege" and "bragagagaga". But I've also heard ones that are genuine, which sound (to me) like well articulated languages/sentences if you listen closely, even if you don't know the language. And that is also my personal testimony, which has full scriptural foundation. So do people still speak in tongues genuinely? YES Do (many) people fake it? YES Must you speak in tongues? NO Should people do it in church without interpretation? NO. This is the summary of everything I've said. |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by Michael547(m): 1:01pm On Sep 04, 2024 |
WeirdAlien:So how would you differentiate the real from the fake? What standard do you use? How do you know that the "regegegege" and "bragagagaga" is fake? Should there not be a church standard to determine which person's unknown tongues is true and fake? Are you saying that the person who has the gift of speaking In tongues can be unable to speak in the native tongues of people? |

Please stop saying and arguing what you don't know about and what you never experienced. David0002:It's not about your story, it's about what the Bible says. Do you believe that there a people who fake speaking in tongues? If yes, how can we differentiate the real one from the fake? |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by David0002(m): 1:34pm On Sep 04, 2024 |
Michael547:Read Acts 2 vs 38, you will discover that once you repent and your sins being remitted, you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, which is the Holy Ghost baptism with the evidence of speaking in tongues. You too can experience it. If you are truly born again and without sin in your life, go ahead in sincerity and with all your heart and ask God to baptize you with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. He will give it to you, and you will experience it yourself. That there fake does not mean there is no original |

David0002:In acts chapter 2:4, 11, Did the disciples not speak in different tongues by the Holy Spirit about God to people in their native tongues that they could understand, why are people not practicing that today? |
| Re: Speaking In Tongues Is A Scam! by David0002(m): 3:23pm On Sep 04, 2024 |
Michael547:Read 1 Corinthians 14:2 [2]For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. When you speak in tongues, no man understands you, but you are speaking mysteries in the spirit. When you speak in tongues, it is your spirit that is talking to God directly, your don't understand what you are speaking. |
