This is not your typical thread of peer pressure turning a good kid into a naughty kid but the reverse.

I gained admission into the university at 18 years old, I was withdrawn due to pooor results in my first years. I applied to the same school FUTMINNA at 19 and when I came back, I tried to blend in and act studious and serious like other students (while I’m more of a social person than an academic person).

I was very studious in my 1st, 2nd year, 3rd years.
But I became tired of everything in my 4th and final year and I can’t find the zeal to study anymore(I’m now a spill over student repeating failed courses. I failed all the courses in 2nd semester 500level)

I don’t know what to do.
I don’t know why I came to this school. I should have gone to a social school like UNILAG or UNIBEN. Maybe I should have found my clique there and leave school for good, or focus on other stuff and improve my self
I’m stuck with this extra year and all this complex stuff that I don’t find any real life application.

I should have spent the time I used studying to make money by doing forex and maybe yahoo.

I am now 26 and confused and broke

For the fact that you have life and has the ability to use the internet then why not embrace legitimate online means with the right mentorship you can start earning @least $50 monthly with whiteboard animation for a token fee charged...

@OP You just need to focus on your studies a little bit more.. there is this thing about choice of course, it's advisable to always choose what you have interest in, not what parents or friends want you to study.

I remember back then in Uni, some of our colleagues who couldn't meet up in our Engineering courses filled in for transfer to other faculties e.g. Sciences, Social Sciences and surprisingly they excelled with very good results.
There are people that studied Theatre Arts, etc. dancing and playing from morning till night in their Departments yet still doing well in life. Most of them are in Nollywood, Hollywood, Ghallywood and all the woods earning well.

My point is, just try a bit harder, pass your extra year courses and any other outstanding you have, then when you graduate, apply to do Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), incase you fall below 2:2. From there you do your Masters and if you develop interest in your new course, go for PhD and you'll have opportunities to choose from.

Don't ever give up in this life..

Let me tell you a secret.. "It's not by how far, but how well".
There are so many with first class degree working for Pass or third class degree holders.

Note that School is not scam and EDUCATION remains the best legacy one can give a child.

Don't write yourself off just yet.. cheer up and try harder.

First, @26, there are still over 100 Dangote trailers worth of hope for you. Are you the oldest student in your course/department? I am very sure that there are students over 40 years old doing the same course as you. If those people still have hope for a better future, how much more do you at 26?

Secondly, I think you are your own problem here. You are not being accountable to yourself, and you lack motivation. It is as if you are forcing yourself to do what you don't enjoy doing.

Schooling at the early age, is always hard and stressful no doubt. You are almost there already, put in your last effort, and secure the cert bag. After which you can go on and pursue what you truly crave to be. You never know when the certs will come in handy.

Lastly, you have to realize that there are no shortcuts, anything you intend to do will always require struggling, grinding, and wanting to give up. With yahoo, the current peer pressure you are facing is x10 believe you me. The key here is being accountable to yourself and trying to stay motivated. It is easier said than done I know, but you just have to put in your best effort.

If to say you use this kind energy wey you the use follow my comment for school, you for don commot with first class, finish NYSC the do your masters.

But now you have to deal with probability of luckily coming out with 3rd class or settling for a pass degree.

All these things you people are telling this guy is just a story, if he cannot break out from his circle of friends. I remembered a guy affected like this also, he came and said lots of things. Even at the point of remorse, he was still lying, as soon as opportunity presented itself, he went back to his circle of immoral friends, and they inticed him again, and so his last state presently is metamorphosying into a worse state. I will not be surprised to learn that he is no more. My kindid advice is for him to run to God, and ask him to help, if you try to do it your own way, you can't. Many people don't like it when you mention God into their dilema. But at the end they are the ones running to him for help. Look try as much as possible as you can before it's too late. Am not saying Hippocratically, but guinuely and you'll be help. And stay away from the problem that is eating you up. If it's a best friend, don't think you'll offend them your life is more important, in the next four years you'll start compiring yourself with your colleagues that started with you, and you'll be ashamed even the more, so make it right now.
