jceesquare:nothing like tampered VIN here. Previous owner replaced ECU and didn't overwrite the VIN of the new ECU with tgat of the car. Police with scanner? Impossible. |

jceesquare:Naija Police with Scanner? I haven't seen one in my life even in Abuja. Although, i have seen VIO check your plate number to confirmed if u have renew your papers. Moreover, the sticker on the driver Side has the same VIN with that on the papers. Like someone said, "Previous owner replaced ECU and didn't overwrite the VIN of the new ECU with that of the car" just that i had an experience yesterday, after an electrician work on the car, trying to fix my reverse light/camera the car doesn't accelerate when u press down the pedal(the car moves slowly in DRIVE and doesnt accelerate at all). when scanned i got an error of P2128, P0121,P0122,P0222,P2122,12127. Throttle position(TP) Sensor B/ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SWITCH A - LOW INPUT..... SENSOR B CIRCUIT LOW INPUT. Am yet to fix it as at the time of posting this |

Is 2008 hyundai santa fe nigerian used good for a first time buyer? Any common major faults with the model? Or common recurring issues? Is it good for travelling, lagos to east |

Thane:What's the determining factor for choosing it? Price? |
| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by Thane(m): 9:09am On Mar 05, 2025 |
jceesquare:Yes price, my money is 6m |
| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by jceesquare(m): 7:23pm On Mar 06, 2025 |
Thane:I wouldn't encourage you to buy it because it's cheap especially for a 1st time user. I'd rather encourage you buy any popular brand with enough mechanic and parts support available in your area until you're comfortable with owning a car (enough hands-on experience) then you can switch to any brand you fancy. But please go for prepurchase inspection with a qualified technician regardless of what you choose eventually. |

Hi everyone, please Hyundai sonata 2015, 2016 is it safe to buy for a first timer. Is the GDI engine thing that common considering it’s what is really moving now in the market? Please I need your knowledge and experiences please. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 |
| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by jceesquare(m): 8:16am On May 05, 2025 |
ZEPHYREN:The engine on paper is a great one with a perfect blend of power and fuel economy. However, you'd have to thread carefully when buying one (especially if it's the Turbo 2.0 engine). If it's Nigerian used and has done over 40,000 miles on Nigerian soil, you might need full service history from the owner to be sure if it was properly maintained (that engine is not cheap to purchase) or you avoid it entirely. |
| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by ZEPHYREN(m): 2:35pm On May 06, 2025 |
jceesquare:Thank you boss for the response, really appreciate it. One last thing please. I intend to get a Toks with below 60k miles, are they two different type of engine for the car? If the 2.0 is problematic, is the other better or worse please? Thank you in advance |
| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by jceesquare(m): 9:15pm On May 06, 2025 |
ZEPHYREN:1st, the milage is rubbish (high or low) if car was poorly maintained (Toks or local used) you'd need to run a VIN check and have a technician physically inspect for you. You can reach me on 07089030689 for inspection if in Lagos. The 2.0T engine is not a death sentence as it were, but it's a general rule in the auto world that Turbocharger with GDI mix is not a perfect combination. It is absolutely sweet when it works though. If you're good with preventive maintenance, then you should be fine. In all, those cars made for Korean markets then to be well built that the ones built for American market (my take though). |

Hello guys, can anyone tell me about Hyundai Santa Fe 2012 model. I want to get a car for my dad and I am seriously considering the car since the price of a Toyota these days is crazy. 2010 Toyota Highlander is being quoted for 16-19m by most vendors so I am just looking for a cheaper alternative. The Hyundai Santa Fe looks appealing to me and fits well with my budget. I’m buying it tokunbo. So any information about the car regarding reliability, durability and service cost will be appreciated. Thanks. |

Tucode:Where would your dad be using the car? Availability of spare parts and technicians should be your 1st priority. |

I plan on getting a car that's fuel efficient, and comfortable for everyday running around and using it for bolt/Uber comfort on weekends. Please Is the Hyundai a good choice? The sonata 2013 naija used looks good. But I don't know anything about the car. What's your advice/alternative recommendation |

I posted something like this on car recommendation thread but I would like to post it here again since it involves Hyundai product... I want to change madam's car to Hyundai Elantra GT 2016-2018 but I was told about the engine factory defects that made the company did a recall on some of them. I still want to know which of the year should I avoid? Cos that's the only vehicle in mind for me to buy |
| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by mayor2013: 2:48am On Jun 23, 2025 |
fashrola:The Hyundai elantra GT production stopped at 2021. Now when you talk about recalls you need to under stand that its based on Region where the vehicle is coming from. Recalls in Canada sometimes could be different or might not exist on same brand of vehicle and model year in the USA or any other region. So to begin with what region would the elantra Gt be coming from. I can give you first hand info about Hyundai up to 2026. If you must know there are rules for every Hyundai to be used successfully. Follow them and you would be fine. How do I know I am a tech with one of the dealerships in Canada |

| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by Kerefi: 11:45am On Jul 06, 2025 |
Please is a Nigerian used Sonata 2013 worth it or plagued with issues? |
| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by Babatundehy: 3:18pm On Jul 06, 2025 |
Kerefi:Save yourself high blood pressure and unending disappointments, avoid by all means, doesn't matter if it is Tokunbo or used here, these cars will fail no matter how much you take care of it, it is a design flaw. When Hyundai started their Gdi technology post 2010, they got it totally wrong, till today they're still struggling with the technology and haven't gotten it right, there are even stories of 2025 palisades, Tucson failing within weeks, a quick Google search will open your eyes. This failure is most common among the smaller engine displacements. Pre 2011, and I can confidently tell you Hyundai/kias compare so well with more popular brands like Honda, Toyota, Nissan. Mind you, I own an Hyundai Sonata and I haven't been to a mechanic for repairs for years, car is in top shape like the way it came imported, everything works great from my electric side mirrors to AC (cold and hot), rear window heating, electric driver seat, etc. no issues, even my leather seats are in great shape ( I never installed seat covers and I don't park in a garage, that tells you the sun hits it good). Hyundai isn't totally an unreliable automaker, they manufactured the indestructible older engines still going strong today (over 20 years), they're just not giving up on the GDI tech/ having more diffuculties pairing them with Turbos, maybe they figure it out in the coming years, if you must use a more recent Hyundai, AVOID ALL TURBO VARIANTS with small engines, AND ONLY CONSIDER THE non turbo 3.3L/3.5L V6, the best Hyundai engines are the naturally aspirated V6s. |
| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by Cupidkc(m): 9:18pm On Jul 06, 2025 |
Babatundehy:Couldn't have said it better, their GDI is really a mess. I have a simple rule of thumb when it comes to Hyundai cars; avoid all 4 plugs and embrace the v6s if you must. |
| Re: Hyundai owners Discussion by mayor2013: 8:32am On Jul 08, 2025 |
No doubt every manufacturer has been coming out lately with one design flaw or the other in terms of reliability of their brands and Hyundai isn't left out. The newer versions of Hyundai are gaining reliability with the brand still been rated as one of the best recently. Their Hybrid systems are top notch with little to no known issue with them. For any one using the Hyundai there is just one simple rule of thumb which Nigerians till today don't know and that's why when their hyundai cars end up at the mechanic. Their mechanics continue to blame the brand as been awful. As for the GdI all throughout my fixing of over a thousand of hyundai I had only two reason to change components on the GDI system on newer hyundai like the kona 2024 (stucked opened high-pressure pump) and on an older santafe 2017. Had reason to change high pressure injectors on the smart steam engines which had injector recaĺls and these were done free of charge through which the manufacturers beared the cost. All new Hyundai are going 4 cylinders which just the palisade known to be a v6. Many car owners should under stand there are factory errors and I must say this if every Nigerian had first had information about factory errors (recalls/campaign and TSb) cut across all brand of vehicles then no one would drop a kobo to buy any car irrespective of the brand. As for the man asking about the Hyindai sonata 2013. The engine had a factory recall were the connecting rod had a bearing clearance and a lot had been changed with brand new engines in saner climes free of charge if your engine failed a bearing clearance test. So avoid that car Many Nigerians, with the case of the Hyundai sonata 2013 would still go ahead to buy a so called tokunbo engine which had engine recalls and if it goes kaput they blame their village people . How do you reconcile this?? Make I stop here biko ![]() |
