Should I Consider Marriage Now? by Cristlaw(op): 1:19pm On May 29, 2025
Good day Nairaland.

I will be brief.
I love this lady and I believe she loves me too because she is my dream woman.
we plan to get married by early next year, but the problem here is that my mom want me to hold on with the wedding because she feels I'm not buoyant enough for marriage.
My finance promise to support though.

By this year December, I should have saved 1.5M from my pocket and I believe family and friends will support as my total budget for the wedding is 2M.

Although I didn't tell her about my savings yet.
I don't want to enter a marriage without my parents support. Just few months left to new year and I'm so confused right now.

What should I do guys?

Re: Should I Consider Marriage Now? by yomi007k(m):
Answer these questions;

1.What if your family and friends don't add up the money to 2 M, what will you do?

2. After marriage where will the new couple live? How much is rent and furniture?

3.Is your lady working? After marriage, how much do you and your spouse set as your joint monthly income and expenses?

Hmmm..... Buy enough food stuff for you and your wife first, rent a good house in a secured environment. Wedding is just for a day, cut you coat, if possible do small trad, and marriage blessing. Don't think that people will come and gift you huge sum of money, some are just coming for coming sake, some will come for food, some for critiques, some for attention, some for pictures, some will come to find love. Wedding is no longer the way it used to be. Hunger and maintenance will come knocking after marriage. Nobody go reason una matta after that day, unless you have a caring parents/in-laws.

So 1M isn't enough for you to do a wedding? Don't you want to have money in your bank after the wedding?

Don't ever marry based on your savings

Never used the main money you have for wedding

Never do a wedding beyound 10-20 % of your capacity
Meaning reserve 80-90% of your capacity for.marriage

Now...in marriage

You have 4 main responsibilities as man

Responsibility of your wife's needs
Responsible for the needs of the home
Responsible for the needs of the children
Finally the most expensive which many half baked men don't know

The vision of the wife
You will not have an issue here if she is visionless
But the implications of that is that you may be breeding a nagging wife

Guys usually have their eyes on kids as home
But there is usually more

Been.ready for the wedding means you are 80-90 ready for all of the needs above
Which is marriage itself

If you have been saving and you are not ready either through savings plus works or business for the above needs and responsibilities

You will easily get tired of marriage just after your wedding because of financial burden

If you feel and know the time is right for you. Emphasis on “feel” and “know”. It is a personal thing. Don’t let another person tell you otherwise. We all have our different paths

Marriage should make u better. if this girl will add value to u than be a burden then by all means rush and marry her but if she is a liability or not helping in anyway or supportive pls take ur time.

As for ur parents u must come up with both a wedding and marriage plan that's sustainable and convincing for them and then they will accept. They see the struggles ahead that why they say what say so Be guided.

Oga, the balance in your account after wedding should be like 2x or 3x your wedding budget.

If you're hoping on family and friends to finance your wedding, what hope do you have of settling comfortably after wedding?

People be living dangerously while pretending they're totally playing it safe.

Don't marry for love oo. Marriage na business. Think am well
That is because many of you think of love in terms of eros only...and many of you also look down on women or are angry with the minority of women that are femminists and too woke.

To truly love a woman, there has to also be agape and philos as well. That is what keeps the marriage going when the going gets tough.

If you marry as business, eventually it will break down by the time the children are old enough. And you will have your kids despise you. No, it is not because their mother caused it, it is because they have had their idea of the world around them damaged, and yes, they will also despise their mother.

Besides, you won't like it if your inlaw says he married your sister as a business thing.

You don't need anybody to validate your life .
Ask yourself...
Am I ready , financially and emotionally ?
Can I share forever with my partner?
What's my parent view on my partner?

Re: Should I Consider Marriage Now? by Treasure17(m): 7:26pm On May 29, 2025
Marry base on your budget and not rely on family and friends. 1.5M is decent enough depending on the kind of woman you want to marry.
