I Am 20, HIV Positive, And Scared of What Will Happen When the Pills Run Out. by RetroviralS(op):
Most young people my age worry about grades, jobs, or love.

I worry about whether I’ll be able to afford the medication that keeps me alive.

The number one fear of most AYPLHIV (Adolescents and Young People Living with HIV) is a future where we have to pay for all the daily medications and regular tests that we need to stay alive.

This fear is valid because there is real uncertainty around the future funding of HIV programmes in Nigeria. I’ve been fortunate enough to get higher education that gave me tech skills: the kind of skills that will guarantee me a steady source of income in the future. But the reality?

Most AYPLHIV don’t have the means to acquire such skills or access higher education. And even when some finally get a job, it’s often far from where they can access their medication forcing them to reject the offer entirely.

If there were more funding for HIV programmes, there could be more centers. That would mean AYPLHIV wouldn’t have to choose between a career and their health.

There’s a beauty and peace in being “normal” that AYPLHIV may never get to experience. But life can be made much easier if support structures are put in place.

That’s why I am committed to advocating for this for the rest of my life.

What about you?

If this was your life, what’s the very first change you’d want to see in Nigeria’s health system? I’m listening.

Eat well and maintain a good health .
And there is news that there is an injection taken twice a year to battle the virus in one 's body .
No need for the daily pills .

True, eating well helps a lot.
The Lenacapivir; twice-a-year injection is real, but sadly, it’s not yet easy to get here or that affordable for most people.
That’s why we keep pushing for better access, so one day, no one has to depend on daily pills to stay alive.

Eat good food, get doctor's advice and information on how to get your drugs. Attend online or church programs of Dunamis and God will change the status to Negative by His grace.

How did you contract HIV in your 20s?

This is a story I am interested in

As for the pills, health personnel will address that issue.

I remember during Donald Trump's last state of the Union speech in his first term, he said the USA will get a complete cure of HIV within a decade from that time.

Doesn't matter. Could be perinatal or even STD but truth is the information has no single use to you or anyone here.

Different strokes for different folks 🤔. I doubt that baron even has time for healthcare.

But your serendipity is… concerning—HIV, at this time? 👀

Well, you’ll just have to manage it.

Most likely that will be the case and you may have to look at other options of ordering your prescriptions. Diabetics inject themselves several times a day and sometimes for the rest of their lives, yours are just pills which will eventually just be a part of you as long as you can afford them.

Stay strong and keep trying.

All the best bro.

The moment information comes to the public space, it becomes the business of everyone. If you like, learn. If you don't like, don't learn.

Meanwhile, you are not the OP. I don't know who made you his spokesman.

When the pills run out does not mean death immediately. A lot of people are positive for longer time but didn't know until when they have reasons to give out blood or tested unexpectedly. So why those people didn't die till the year they get to know that they are positive.
Many are reading this on nairaland today but never go for voluntary testing.

Fear k i l l s faster than the lack of pills.

Look up to the future.

Your focus should be on the future, its hopes and it’s opportunities.
