When did you realize you were no longer a visitor in your best friend's house?

Re: When Did You Realize You Were No Longer A Visitor In Your Best Friend's House? by Onegai(f): 11:54am On Oct 22, 2025
The next morning, her mother woke me up and gave me broom and pointed to a section of their house to sweep grin

Then yabbed my sweeping skills and her daughter's cleaning skills.

Then took us to work and dropped us off at her school to teach the junior classes.

And she wasn't even Nigerian! 😭 Went from "can I get you something, are you comfy with the a.c, would you like a croissant or some soda..." To Aunty Esohe in under 24 hrs 😅

Guest kini grin grin

I don't remember staying too long at anyone's house, to the point of becoming too familiar, and I don't remember overstepping boundaries beyond where I'm comfortable, or should I say "felt too at home" at somebody's house.
Oh! And I could never sleepover at someone else's house.
I was more of an outdoor, carefree, playful kid.

Although, your friends' mummies could send you on errands sha.

Mariah, Mariah. You've improved a lot. Anyway, my bible has already said it in James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised.

I've always had boundaries when visiting her home, as a result, I have never been familiar around her family house... I'm from a typical African family that doesn't believe in doing sleepovers and being familiar with other people's homes that are not family.

Even now I'm not comfortable with the idea of friends constantly coming to my matrimonial home as it's my private space, unless if we stay outside the house throughout their visit.

You are not African one bit by this behaviour.. We become family in our best friend home that we do the same chores they do and the parent, juniors and seniors in the family become ours and they also in return lookout for our best interest. In fact our friendships turns our parents to friend albeit partially or sometimes fully.

The guy's dad fart so loud. Everyone knew he did but he pointed finger at me. Saying, it was me. And his wife said to me, Gabriel, when it's your turn, make sure the sound brings down the roof of this house. grin

And we all laughed sarcastically. grin grin grin

It's a good thing na, for you to be regarded as part of the family.

In reality, it's usually the other way round...
You suddenly realise you are no longer welcome. That is, you have overstayed your welcome.

The moment I realize I was no longer a visitor in a friend's place was the attitude of his wife

This my friend was really envying and snitching me behind my back but in my presence, he would act all nice and caring

First and foremost, I suspected he was telling his wife negative things about me but when I started noticing something was wrong was when I visit him, his wife would tell me he's not around

Most times, I turn back but later on, I suspected he would be at home while his wife would tell me otherwise

There was one day the wife told me he wasn't around and a part of me was telling me that he was inside. To satisfy my curiosity, I asked his children and they both chorused to me that their daddy was inside.. This happened for about three times until I started withdrawing myself because I don't like to stay where I'm not honoured or valued

Now, me and that my friend are no longer in good terms.. He snitched me badly and plotted evil against me

One big lesson I've got to learn in life is that there's no best friend anywhere. Your wife and your children are your best friends

For those of you that have friends you don't know what God has done for you, as for we that have nonsense and jealous ones we don't count them as friends

When I called for regular Saturday morning devotion and no one came out.Thats when I knew i wasn't longer welcome. I sang alone and did the morning devotion alone.
I eventually continued my lone devotions, and left.
God blessed me and japa. They started asking me for money . When I told them I was trying to settle, then they tagged me a 'wicked man' , and sent me very disturbing WhatsApp messages.
I just didn't bother.

If their daughter say they are going to party they will ask if I am going and the parents response mirrors mine.

Is there anything called friends, lol. By the way I don't have any friend, the last experience was annoying and ever since I have a reputation of minding my boundary and lane.

I treat people I talk to as talk mates not friends, person wey dey do friend still be toddler. True friend no dey, na enemies full everywhere, wey no want your progress.

I don't stay long in my friends house; staying for just a night is enough for me to find my way back to my house.

3 times ke. This can’t be me, once is enough. You must have truly loved this friend.

It’s hard to get me to visit anyone. My weekends are my only me time, for me to give it to anyone ehn lol.

Maybe in West Africa your friends are free to walk in and out of your homes as they please , but not where I'm from... We view a household as a private sanctuary where no one can just come in as they please at whatever time they wish... And where did I say family members are not welcome in my place?

I have no issues with friends visiting me as long as they don't turn coming to my place into a habit, unless we hang out somewhere outside the house or go out.

Back home in my family house we have one patio, one deck, two verandas, and one porch coupled with some trees for our friends... We only let them indoors when the weather is bad outside.

I believe that is what the post truly meant.

I may be wrong.

But I feel like the OP used you are no longer a visitor (guest) to depict when you are no longer treated with respect.

More like when did you realize you have overstayed your welcome in your best friend's house.

Because in my opinion, for someone to be your best friend, you can't be a visitor in their home.
