Sincere 9gerian: Very good development.
However based on this statement:

“This is what we do with the loan collected by the government. We don’t use our loan to pay salaries and other recurrent expenditure, what we do with our loan is to provide capital projects that would serve the residents"...Fashola

If this project is being executed with loan, what does the state govt do with N30billion monthly revenue?

But whether with loans or not, let the project (even if its just the first phase) be completed for the good of the people.
Question: What is FG doing with the loans it borrows?

Answer: Pays salaries, buys phones for farmers, builds mansion for VP, buys cutlery and food for aso rock, buys 11th private jet for GEJ

ba7man: Provide us with pictures of the Abuja light rail and we'll appreciate it if its good. At least the internet will help us follow the progress in this country. And also, the total project length is 54km.....I'm sure you've never witnessed a rail project of this scale in your lifetime.....except u're 80 years old or somthing. You're just mad at this news and u need to give us a reason why.....Yeah, and if the FG reveal every step they take on NL, it will probably expose the monumental corruption on-goin in this country and it might start a revolution in which you and your paymasters are wiped out.
You sounded quite silly trying to respond to a balanced post . . . .upgrade your game dude . . .

Guk: Even though its 4km, you cant imagine the number of vehicles it will take off the road during rush hour. The scenario will be people walking over from Marina to National Theatre to board the train to Mile 2 and then continue their journey from there until the Marina to Nat Theatre and Mile2 to Okoko lines are freed up
Am not saying the 4 mins drive distance is bad. am just saying why announce to us as major news, a step of 4 mins drive that is not even done yet? The orile-mile 2 track will be concluded by june according to the article. Am not against the project, only against the propaganda the project is being used for. Let them complete a significant part, then they can blow their trumpet, no questions asked. For now, it is an ongoing project just like the FG projects. The FG is even actually ahead because their is already functioning and in use. The Lagos-Kano route is live. The Abuja City is being laid and is far more than 4 mins drive. The Enugu-PH is being laid. The lagos-Ibadan fast track is being laid. I don't need to hold brief for the FG but the point is, if we are being bombarded by the FG the way ACN cronies are opening 5 threads per day on this lagos light rail, the politics section will need 12 moderators.

Why do you think other governors are not working? This is why I said it is propaganda! Amaechi has actually laid more tracks in the PH light rail but I don't see any launching or fanfare. Let the good work continue and when it is done, they can light up the skies with the greatest fireowkrs display ever! For now, keep it down to one informative thread a month or so where we are updated on the progress. This one we are witnessing now is spam!

This has probably solved the puzzle Debosky and I were trying to unravel. They said the first phase will be complete by June. What is the first phase of the project?

He felt that the first phase meant the Blue Line project, while I felt that the first phase is from Orile to Mile 2.

From what I saw on the ground, I do not believe that it's possible to complete the entire project by June (they still need to build the Lagoon Bridge).

According to the article, Orile-Mile 2 will be completed by june. Even if that were to happen, it will still be near insignificant. Only residents of Ajegunle and environs take buses from Orile to Mile 2. Most people at the bus stop in Orile take buses to Oshodi, festac, Okokomaiko, Alaba, Ojo, badagry. So the completion of orile-mile 2 would make very little difference, if any, to the transport situation.

Marina-mile 2 would make more sense, but I believe Marina would require a bridge so that is a loooong thing for now. The other realistic coverage would be Orile-Okokomaiko or Oyingbo-Mile 2. Any of those would make a significant change in the lagos transport situation.

Rail, BRT, regular bus and ferry services.

The Lagos Rail Transit (LRT) system will be similar to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the sense that the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) will build and maintain the tracks, while the concessionaire will procure and maintain the trains.

Already, the concessionaire on the blue line has procured carriages from Canada (they were subway trains, but have been converted to surface trains). Lagos State Government will build a dedicated independent power plant to provide electricity to the system.

The Blue Line.

The Lagos-Badagry Expressway is part of the abandoned Trans-African Highway project. However, it is prone to massive traffic jams. This has stunted development along that corridor since people don't want to live and work in that area because of the traffic problems.

Therefore, the Lagos State Government is expanding the road. It will be a 10 lane expressway with BRT and LRT routes. Julius Berger is expanding the road (so far they've expanded the road between Orile and Mile 2 and expanded the Mile 2 Bridge), while Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC) is laying the tracks. It's largely going to be an elevated rail system (CCECC has built part oof the bridge along the Orile axis and they are also building elevated stations from Orile too Mile 2).

Blue line stations will include:

1) Marina

2) Ebutte Ero

3) Iddo

4) National Theatre

5) Iganmu

6) Alaba

7) Mile 2

8 ) Festac

9) Alakija (Satellite Town)

10) Trade Fair Complex

11) Volkswagen

12) Lasu Gate

13) Okokomaiko.

Red Line stations include:

2) Ebutte Ero

3) Iddo

4) Ebutte Metta

5) Yaba

6) Jibowu

7) Mushin

8 ) Oshodi

9) Shogunle

10) Murtala Mohammed Airport (an arm of the line will branch off to the airport)

11) Ikeja

12) Agege

13) Iju

14) Agbado

Lamata has proposed 7 lines. They are:

1) Blue line: Okokomaiko-Marina
2) Red Line: Agbado-MMIA-Marina
3) Green Line: Lekki Airport-Marina
4) Yellow Line: Otta-Iddo
5) Purple Line: Redeemed Camp-Ojo
6) Brown Line: Mile 12 - Marina
7) Orange Line: Redeemed Camp-Marina

Below is an overview of the project from Wikipedia.

Lagos Light Rail is a light rail system being developed in Lagos, Nigeria. The system is being sponsored by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and is envisioned to consist eventually of seven lines.[1] The railway equipment including electric power, signalling, rolling stock, and fare collection equipment will be provided by the private sector under a Concession Contract. LAMATA is responsible for policy direction, regulation, and infrastructure for the network.[2] The concessionaire will generate its own dedicated electricity.[3]

History

The idea of developing rapid transit in Lagos dates from the 1980s with the Lagos Metroline network conceived by the Alhaji Lateef Jakande during the Nigerian Second Republic.[4] The initial Metroline project was scrapped in 1985 by Muhammadu Buhari at a loss of over $78 million to the Lagos tax payers.[5] The idea of developing a light rail network for Lagos was revived by Governor Bola Tinubu in the early 2000s with a formal announcement of its construction in December 2003.[6] This initial $135 million proposal was part of the greater Lagos Urban Transportation Project to be implemented by the newly formed Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).[6] LAMATA initially concentrated on developing a Bus Rapid Transit system, running from Mile 12 to Lagos Island. In 2008, LAMATA began also to make progress with the rail project, focussing initially on the Blue Line and the Red Line.

In September 2011, LAMATA announced that it would be acquring its older H5 and H6 subway cars from the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), a public transit operator based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, (as their transit operator is acquring its new articulated six-car fixed Toronto Rocket subway cars to replace the older cars) for its fleet of subway cars that would operate on the Blue and Red lines. [7]

Okokomaiko-Marina Blue Line

In April 2008, the Lagos State Government approved ₦ 70 billion for construction of the Okokomaiko-Iddo-Marina Line, with an estimated completion date of 2011.[2] Advisory services are being provided by CPCS Transcom Limited, an Infrastructure Development consulting firm based in Ottawa, Canada. Construction actually commenced in January 2010, and completion is now expected in 2015. The Blue Line is now being built by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation. The Blue Line will run 27.5 km from Marina to Okokomaiko, with 13 stations. End-to-end journey time will be approximately 35 minutes. It is being built as a high capacity, electrically powered rail mass transit system. Most of the route will be on the surface, running east-west, in the central reservation of the rebuilt Badagry Expressway between Igbo-Elerin Road (Okokomaiko) and Iganmu. The line will run on elevated structure from Iganmu along the south side of the expressway passing the junction with Eric Moore Road, crossing just south of the National Theatre to Iddo, then south to Lagos Island with a terminal at Marina. Construction is underway between National Theatre and Mile 2.,A Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF) will be constructed at Okokomaiko, with a track connection from the Blue Line to the depot. The entire Blue Line will operate over a secure and exclusive right-of-way, with no level crossings and no uncontrolled access by pedestrians or vehicles. Lagos State is financing construction of the Blue Line from its own resources. A concession contract is being awarded to finance, supply and operate the railway equipment, including electric power, signalling, trains, and fare collection.

However, I have one reservation/concern (although, strictly speaking it's not about the rail project per se).

The government needs to inform people who live and work in the area whether the Badagry Expressway will be tolled or not.

I'm not against tolling, but I don't want the project to be bogged down with the same kind of problems that we witnessed on the Lekki Expressway and Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge projects (I.e court cases and protest). The government should do an adequate public enlightenment and sensitisation campaign and seek the views of residents.

Do u know the length of the rail track Amaechi is presently doing that has gulped billions all these years over here and still uncompleted?
Its like from Maryland to Ketu on Ikorodu road in lagos.

Yes an on-going project but one of the most ambitious in this country right now. So u don't consider the Concrete support to carry the elevated track work?? Or the train station already in place?? Laying of tracks is the least of work to be done. The difference between me and u is this; I look at the project and I'm happy b'cos of the number of lives it will touch positively(effective transportation of goods, services, people, appreciation of property value(even though I don't own property in that axis))....But all u see is Propaganda and politics. Man, it must be horrible being you.
Re: Lagos Light Rail Will Be Ready In June – Fashola by prost80(m): 11:42am On Jan 09, 2013
Actually , the first phase of the LRT will be from National Theatre to Mile 2( through Orile Iganmu- Alaba) , 4 stations all in all, this is what will be completed by June and it is very very feasible. Then the second phase will be to take the track laying to Okokomaiko. The rail services will initially start from National Theatre to Mile 2 , then from National Theatre to Okokomaiko(when it is completed), Once the lagoon bridge is done and fitted, then Marina to Okokomaiko will commence, which is still a long way of say 2016 at best. (See below). I will say however, I am disppaointed with the pace, but I know funding is a big issue. No one is even talking of the Red Line, which hasnt even started construction/rehabilitation yet. I will like to know from any Fashola people, what is the status of the red line

This is my point to all those that this project leaves a "bitter taste" in their mouths. God save this country from your kind. Amen.

The last time I heard about the Red Line was when an economic adviser from the British High Commission went (with some british businessmen) to see the governor. The governor encouraged them to invest in the red line project, stating that the government was seeking concessionaires for that project.

At that time Debosky was of the view that it was too early to talk about the red line project (because he felt that it could distract the government from completing the Blue Line). He wanted the government to complete the Blue Line first before commencing work on the Red Line.
