SpencerForbes:
My take is simple: Mother and Wife are the only two women entitled to your finances. Your girlfriend is entitled to her father's money, period. She should redirect her financial requests to her dad.

If you are financially comfortable, feel free to spoil your wife (not your girlfriend), but always draw the line. Don’t be so kind that she mistakes you for a fool and begins to exploit your willingness to provide.

So, technically, her assessment is correct.
U go be real intentional man. For a short while lose that source of revenue u use in decorating her, and come back to give us lectures on love and matrimonial home 🤣🤣

SlavaUkraini:
What about the woman's money ?

It should also reflect on the man since the two of them are now one.
The man's money will reflect on her...

while her own money will reflect in her bank account.

Let's face it: its not like the women point a gun to the head of men... most nigerian men are naturally stupid and have no self-worth. We tend to feel so miserable that we almost consider it a taboo to evn spend on ourselves and look like true human beings.

Man go make small rabba, next thing hin go dey look for na how to shower it on a woman who never loved him when he was without it. Who do us like this, o God! cheesy

My money will reflect on me first ...I must look good than my wife cos it's my money so I will use it to put myself in that pedestal called beautiful.

I dont subscribe to that ibo culture were the man will dress shabbily and the wife looking like a queen..it takes value away from the man...and women like beautiful things or pleasant things they date upward ..soon the man will look boring to her and not attractive cos he is using his money to give the wife the shine putting her in the limelight instead of him.

Please, let this madness remain in Igboland. Don't export it to saner climes.

Like I don't get it. Do Igbo men take it as a pride or what sef?

She is on point,I mean if it's on wife and children but not girlfriend.
Wife, lover, olossho, prosstitute, girlfriend, fiancee.....

Go and work and hustle for your own money too. Extreme pressure has led many more men to their early death. You die pleasing a woman, she'll move on the moment you exit. You don't need to exit; become broke for a while and she will make her presence around you the most miserable thing after sickness and death.

Make your money; spend most on yourself, a reasonable amount on your kids and the least on her.

statements like this are part of the problem i have with the influx of Ibos and their value system into yorubaland. It is a given that a man must take care of his wife and children but that money must reflect on a woman is an ibo thing. Flamboyance for flamboyance sake or to display wealth for the sake of it is an ibo thing, that you must see the wealth of an ibo man in his wife is your thing, it's not our way.

It is quite common in yoruba land for the wife to be the one with money because in yorubaland, the status of a yoruba man is in his occupation, thats why you will see yoruba men who are professionals or civil servants and their wives are business women. if you introduce a friend to a typical yoruba father, the first thing he will likely ask you is what work does your friend do or what work does his gfather do? not how much money do you have. Thats also why you will see yoruba names that refer to their occupations like Agbede (ironsmith) . Like i said it is normal in yoruba man for the wife to be the one with the moeny or richer than the husband because it is usually the women who are the traders/business women.

That's what they do..you know naturally an average ibo man is very proud. They sometimes use it to brag among themselves who takes good care more or lavish more extravagantly on thier wives.

You will see the man driving keke from 5am till 11pm daily looking worn out, stressed, haggard but thier wives will be shining changing attire daily, like they just came to life to live it for thier wives. ...what a culture is annoying .

Most of these so called wives are not even faithful they go around fvcccking for money from one odogwu to another esp the xmas season ....using thier deadbeat husband's money to clean up for bigger clients.

I know them very well.

I definitely don't agree with that 😂! I naturally try to make sure everyone around me is happy. However, the moment I sense even a hint of entitlement or exploitation of my kindness, I will absolutely withdraw. I've completely mastered the art of pulling back, and that applies even to entitled children.

Technically, they only advocate for a logic that favors them. If you raise the issue of that wife submitting to the man that should be on boxers while she is adorned in gold, then you'd see the venom within! Quote me daily.

Wetin una really want, Nigerian men? Una want women that will be submissive, dedicated, faithful and overlooking una philandering and all that. Yet you want her to make her own money and build a career. Don't you guys know that independency comes at a cost? A man is meant to take care of his family (wife and kids). You can't be rich and your family members are wretched. Love and giving go hand-in-hand.

aswani:
See the height of entitlement, instead of trying to carve out your own niche in life, you want to rely on a man.

Don't worry Anti, the man's money will reflect on all of you multiple women of his.

In this day and age, judging yourself by the success of another human being, imagine.

Later you will start disturbing us with stories that touch.

A Nigerian lady has stirred intense debate online after sharing her opinion that a man’s financial success should be visible through the appearance and lifestyle of the woman he is with.

The lady made this known while being featured in the Honest Bunch podcast.

In her argument, she stated that a man who is doing well financially naturally ensures that his partner looks good, is well taken care of, and reflects his level of prosperity.

She pointed out that in some Igbo communities, men are known for dressing modestly, sometimes appearing in very simple clothing.

However, she added that observers often look at the wife to determine whether the man is truly wealthy, as her appearance typically reveals the family’s financial status.

“A man’s money should reflect on his woman. It shows you are doing well.

I wonder why she prefers to use the Igbo people as an example...!!!!

Well, what can we talk about the woman to reflect on the man that he has married well?
Re: “A Man’s Money Should Reflect On His Woman” – Lady Argues by Arostar2023: 4:38pm On Dec 09, 2025
As for me, everything my wife get na my own as the head of the family. If she isn't generous by nature, I go teach her. But then, which loving wife and submissive wife would sit back and watch her husband suffer when she get money? Mind you, my emphasis is on wives not girlfriends. Giving or spending lavishly on your girlfriend is foolishness. But then giving in order to help other humans is encouraged by God

Hmmmmmm
You are right about this.
I always wonder why women play a huge role as breadwinners in Yorubaland..... Mothers and grandmothers always carrying a chunk of the family expenses but of recent, cracks are now showing.
Due to women somehow earning more on average, the current generation tend to be more disrespectful, more loose sexually sleeping with richer men to raise capital or sustain their business etc

May God help us because the future looks scary somehow

I think i agree wholeheartedly with the submission of this lady. A man's wealth should reflect clearly on the wife in addition to the children oo

If done in moderation, maybe it's okay.

But even moderation is a step too far for these modern women. In the past, in Yoruba land, our women kneel to greet us in the morning and serve us. Most times we met them virgins. I mean, there was quite a lot of incentive to feel moved to go the extra mile in pampering them.

But does the same apply today? If you did not eventually wed the lady you dated in your late teens or early 20's, meeting a woman in your mid-20's or upwards is nearly tantamount to dating an ex-wh0ore! You know how miserable and embarassing it is to hold in high esteem a woman that several guys out there have known the entry and exit roads to her privates?
