Having many wives means having many children as well. Children are a responsibility. It is very easy to get a woman pregnant. When that child is born, it needs to have decent conditions for life and growth in order to develop into a normal person. That child needs to be clothed, cared for, raised, and educated. All of that requires a lot of money and a lot of attention. The exception is a purely animalistic attitude and instinct, where children are irrelevant and their lives are considered worthless.
