I think you could get him a nice bottle of perfume rather than alcohol. Alcohol will only destroy his health. A gift should be a blessing and last for a while so that the person can remember your kindness. Also a designer perfume costs a lot so just a bottle of perfume would be enough as a gift but if you add live chicken then you have gone above and beyond to show your appreciation.

The man may not want the gift… he might feel it’s a conflict of interest; to get your friend a job and to accept a gift is a thin line between bribery and gratitude. Maybe he should leave it at that. Read between the lines because he can’t refuse a gift outright (to not offend) but he also doesn’t need anything from your friend.

The person on my street who linked me up to his relative who recommended me for a job back then , that Christmas I gave a Christmas hamper , it was around 20k worth that year. He was so excited that he even called his relative to inform him I gave him a Christmas gift.
I patiently waited for months before Christmas because I knew he wouldn't want to collect any gift from me or my mum but I also knew he wouldn't reject an end of the year gift.

Yes, I understand now. It depends on the relationship your friend has with the man. Has he been checking up on the man regularly since the last time he sent him a gift to appreciate him?

I think your friend could call the man and enquire about his new position and wish him well but your friend shouldn’t ask for anything in that conversation just wish him well.

Your friend could then ask at a later date if the man could keep an eye out for him if any jobs that match his qualifications come past his desk.
