Nigerians in UK have to work three or four times more to send in a fraction of what the indians are sending into their own country as diaspora remittances

It looks like modern day slavery.

Shikena:
It depends on your paycheck.

People don't earn the same paycheck anywhere. In Nigeria, an engineer may earn N3m a month at a multinational while a teacher may earn N120k a month. It's the same abroad.

A care worker may work 2 jobs to make a fraction of what a cybersecurity engineer or doctor earns in a few hours.

Nigeria has loads of licensed doctors, dentists, engineers, pharmacists and nurses everywhere. Most of them don't need 2 jobs but some have major projects in Nigeria and other places so they may need additional income with other employers.

Explain what you mean?
Any evidence of this segregated pay structure in the UK?
I'm hearing this for the first time, it's a clear violation of UK employment law, and I don't want to simply jump off to google or AI summarized search analysis since you appear to have some evidence.
Let's fact check this obvious misinformation.

*Out of curiosity, have you ever stepped outside Nigeria?

No be you present evidence of segregated pay structure? I should propound evidence for what you said, is that what ytou are saying?

How many Indians are care workers in UK compared to Nigerians? So if there are more Nigerian care workers it means they have to work five or more jobs every 24hours? How do they keep up? Are they donkeys?

Why are you forming knowledgeable on other peoples matters, do you know Nigerian labour law? See you talking about 'violation of UK employment law' na yua papa formulate the UK employment !aw? Can you know more about it than the formulators?

You sound angry, hope all is well? It's actually sleepless 7 jobs in "28 hours" every day for me as an agile God-blessed man not wasting away his youth hoping on Tinubu, Atiku or Obi for mercy and better days. That is slavery.

My 7 paychecks from my productive years is mine and I am not living off of corruption thinking I'm doing welll and no one anywhere in the world can call me a lazy youth. I support people comfortably and I also invest wisely in government backed investment portfolios and I will get 10 jobs if I feel I need it to attain my goods grin

Re: The UK Dating Trap: What Many Nigerians Don't See Coming by Shikena(m): 2:42pm On Jul 12
I see where you mixed up my point.

I mentioned individual paycheck differences to de-emphasize an unnecessary comparison.

India's immigrants population in the UK is estimated to be about 4 times Nigeria's figure of about 400,000 people. Guess what, Nigeria's annual private remittance total from the UK is also approximately a quarter of India's figure.

In conclusion, Nigerians are comfortably at the top of diaspora remittances per capita alongside other top flyers. There is no basis for any conclusion that a Nigerian works more jobs for equivalent paycheck. Anyone who has lived out there knows this. More job is just to earn more in total not because of lower hourly income compared with Indians, for example.

My reference to paycheck disparity is about different workplace wages and not about nationality. There is a UK law that re-emhasized that even in 2010.

By the way, I work with a global consulting firm & move around a lot. Not that it matters here.

What is the number of Indians doing care giving jobs to Nigerians doing same, and what is the ratio of Indians to Nigerians in the skilled high paying jobs? Are Indians also doing five jobs in 24 hours to keep up?

See this one forming knowledgeable about another peoples laws while knowing nothing about his. If Nigerian population in UK diaspora is one fourth of India's and Indians are in more skilled highly paying jobs, and still yet Nigerians doing care giving are remitting one fourth of India's total remittance, it can only mean the Nigerians in the UK are doing donkey work.

Hmmm real talk - the mental health impact of deportation, persistent visa denial or other painful experience is real.

Real talk, a typical Nigerian does not care much about what's going on with people in the UK but someone suffering from some impact would. My cousin's girlfriend moved to the UK and dumped him for a solid Naija guy there, it took him years to get over it and still talks down on inits till today.

So you stop fooling yourself by playing the ostrich.

BWALA, WHERE DO YOU LIVE?! – A Scathing Open Letter to a Clueless Adviser Who Thinks ₦60k Is Living Large.

By RRH LANE

Mr. Daniel Bwala, with all due respect (which is currently hovering at exactly ₦0.00), which country are you living in? Because it certainly isn't the Nigeria the rest of us are desperately trying to survive in.

You sat comfortably—likely in an air-conditioned room with stable NEPA (sorry, grumbling generators) and a full fridge—and told Nigerians earning ₦60,000 that they are "better off" than those who "Japa" to the UK. You called care home workers "modern-day slaves."

Mr. Bwala, hypocrisy is not a policy communication strategy, and gaslighting a starving population is not a job description. Let's peel this onion until it burns your eyes, shall we?

1. ₦60,000? That's Not a Salary; That's a Death Sentence

Let's do basic mathematics—the kind they teach in Primary 3.

· A 50kg bag of rice today? ₦80,000 - ₦85,000.
· A litre of petrol? Pushing ₦900 - ₦1,000.
· Transport to work in Lagos for one month? At least ₦40,000 if you're lucky.

Mr. Bwala, if a Nigerian earns ₦60,000, they cannot afford just the bag of rice for the month, let alone transport, rent, school fees, or healthcare. They are not "better off"—they are one sickness away from the village cemetery. You are telling a man with a bleeding ulcer to reject a £2,600 monthly salary in the UK because he'll pay high rent? Meanwhile, in Nigeria, he can't even afford the paracetamol to stop the headache you're giving us with your foolish talk!

2. The Hypocrisy Hall of Fame: You Ran There First!

Here is the part that makes my blood boil: You are a UK resident!

You, Daniel Bwala, have tasted the comfort of the West. You know what it feels like to walk on paved roads without dodging okada riders. You know what it feels like to have 24/7 electricity. You know what it means to send your child to a school where they actually teach without being kidnapped.

And now that you've secured your spot in the cold, you want to turn around and lock the door behind you? You want to tell the young Nigerian doctor, the brilliant engineer, the desperate graduate that they should "stay" and suffer because you say so?

You cannot enjoy the chicken in the UK and tell the man in Nigeria to be happy with the bones. That is not advice; that is wickedness dressed in a suit.

3. "Modern-Day Slavery"? Insult to the Migrant, Insult to History

You had the audacity to call UK care work "modern-day slavery."

Mr. Bwala, do you know what modern-day slavery looks like? It looks like a Nigerian lecturer earning ₦60k after 10 years of service, forced to hawk sachet water after work to feed his kids. It looks like a nurse in a government hospital treating 50 patients with two pairs of gloves because there are no supplies.

Those migrants you mock are heroes. They work 12-hour shifts in care homes, scrub toilets, and carry the elderly—not because they love it, but because they are fighting for their families. They send those "scraps" you mock back home as remittances—over $22 billion annually—keeping the Nigerian economy afloat while your government mismanages oil money. Without them, Nigeria would have collapsed already. Show some respect!

4. The Real Delusion: Your Salary vs. Their Reality

Let's talk about your paycheck, Mr. Special Adviser. How much does the Federal Government pay you? Is it ₦60,000? No! Is it ₦600,000? Probably more!

You live in a bubble of SUVs, security details, and diplomatic passports. You have no idea what it means to wake up at 4 AM to queue for fuel, or to sit in traffic for 4 hours on the Lagos-Ibadan road, or to pay "levies" to touts just to sell pure water.

You lecture us about "family support cushions" while you sit in the Presidential Villa. Do you know that for the average Nigerian, "family support" means 10 unemployed relatives sleeping on your parlor floor, all depending on that ₦60k? That is not a cushion; that is a millstone around the neck!

5. The Challenge: Come and Survive on ₦60k for One Month

Here is my final word to you, Mr. Bwala.

If you truly believe that ₦60,000 is a "superior" life, resign your job immediately. Forfeit your UK visa. Cancel your children's UK schooling. Move to a face-me-I-face-you apartment in Mushin or Ajegunle. Live on exactly ₦60,000 for 30 days—no generator, no driver, no security, no family sending you foreign currency.

Try to feed, transport, and hydrate yourself for just one week.

If you survive, come back and talk. But we both know you wouldn't last 48 hours.

So please, Mr. Bwala, spare us the lectures. Japa is not the disease—it is the symptom of a government that fails to provide light, security, or hope. Until you fix the country, stop mocking the people who are smart enough to run away from the dumpster fire.

You are out of touch. You are out of order. And frankly, you are out of your mind.

motymop:
Anyone who live in the western world will understand that dating is transactional among immigrants especially those from poor countries.

For instance if you are from a country like Nigeria

The women and men are looking for someone with documents to legalize their stay...

The natives don't wanna date an immigrant except if she or he is exceptional handsome or beautiful.

Those Nigerian guys that marry white women, it is a hit or miss, majority of those men found those women in the night club.

As a guy, one of the way to get sex is sex with no emotions aka one night stand on dating apps

Don't ever think you have found love with a girl or guy you met on a dating app. OYO is your own

The most obsessed people that love sex chat are those Nigerians living abroad whether in the UK or US, Canada, that is the period they know they have a ex in Nigeria

Some of the most sexually frustrated and lonely Nigerians are all living abroad, no wonder a week spent in Nigeria for hols is like a week for releasing sexual tension
Hit or miss? This is some serious coping, the ones that date out can meet them anywhere and not all the immigrants in relationships in western countries are transactional. Much of the time, the ones that come from parts of the world like Asia end up dating someone in the western world and come there and overachieve. It’s not to say that other races can’t be materialistic, transactional etc in relationships but it is far worse with us blacks and Africans.
