olx is just a replica of craiglist, purely a free ad platform, so u do biz at ur risk
Re: OLX Nigeria And So Much Scamming by Nobody: 1:46pm On Jul 20, 2014
nairaland has a reputation of bringing other sites down and this is the worst site with criminal activities. the owner of this site and its moderators have done so well in covering up any scam related issues if any user post an issue of scam they try to cover it up so it wont turn up into a big blow out.

the owner of this site must learn how not to disturb the business of other sites. non of these sites have ever reported any case of fraud on nairaland. Olx is more reliable than this site and they always tell you never do business outside your territory but lame azz Bleep>s still go outside the rules and blame the site for their mess ups.

shachris: Don't blame olx, blame your greedy black heart
You hammered the truth on the head.Instead of taking responsibility for his greed he is busy blaming the platform. You get scammed when you want to buy a car of 2 million naira for 500k. You get scammed when you want to buy iPad 4 for 25k.

Abduletudaye: Oboi..Olx could be a scam for whoever that falls fro cheap stuff there..

Altho' am abit puzzled about something else I discovered. I saw this ad on FB, the person claims to be selling UK used items and based in AbJ too..

So I called to verify for BOLD5. She said it was 10K shocked..

I was shocked to also hear the amount of other phones.

But she said if the phone was to be sent to me in Lagos, I would need to pay for the transport of the phone(thru her account) and then pay on delivery to whoever brings it.. So pls guys, could this be a Scam too? Advices pls..
He he. Bold 5 for 10k? What a trap.

legacyint: The possibility of finding a geniune seller on olx is relatively low,I was once a victim of scammers,I met dis guy who was willing to sell his htc oneX for 33k he live in abuja while I live in benin,,after much negotiations I decides to deposit d money in his account,,but I never got d phone.I learnt my lesson d hard way.
This is what we are saying. HTC one goes for NGN110,000 on Konga.com . and you want to buy phone of 110k for 33k. Hehehe I dey laugh. I hope you learnt your lessons. Not only on olx, everywhere in life.

So even with all the comments on these thread you simply can't detect scam and real deal. You better run away before they chop you maga. Go and read OLX policy and learn how it works.

Funny enough even graduates and smart people are falling prey to these scams!

Before I comment, how much were you scammed? Don't tell me you want to buy a 4matic Mercedez Benz for 800k.
Re: OLX Nigeria And So Much Scamming by Nobody: 4:10pm On Jul 20, 2014
There is nothing wrong with olx or tradestable it is the people that use it.

I sold my old car on olx in less than a week.

I bought a guitar from an expatriate on olx for only N6000. It was almost brand new.

Each time , whether i am selling or buying, we meet face to face. I don’t sell to someone outside Lagos, where i am based.

These are the simple rules to follow. And if you are scammed, don't blame olx, published the details (even phone number or email) of the scammer so that you can help to stop his runs. This are the people spoiling online business in Nigeria

jayseehe: I sell on OLX and I don't scam.

my ads are relatively cheaper on OLX because of the competition there...
it's higher on other sites with less competition

it is not just OLX, people are being scammed here (Nairaland) too

being scammed depends on you, why should you send money to someone without getting and testing the goods?
what happened to local pickup or pay on delivery?

FYI, I have seen situations where sellers are scammed by buyers on OLX, after delivery of the goods, the buyer will refuse to pay...

OP, don't spoil the reputation of that site, because of some people's gullibility.... I need the site so much, I buy and sell there

if you are afraid of being scammed, try Kaymu.com.ng kaymu offers escrow service
pay via kaymu SafePay, that way, the seller won't receive the money until the goods have been delivered to you and you are satisfied with it.

by the way, you can purchase from my online store @ kaymu....
use SafePay and pay with your debit(ATM) card
http://www.kaymu.com.ng/seller/don-juan/

Google Kaymu SafePay to know more about it...
you can call it Nigerian EBay version

U said it all...thanks for enlightening him

Benop: Good day pals.

I saw the advert on TV mid last year on the online platform OLX and decided to have a look at it. I got to even download the mobile app on my phone, was interested in buying a car and on opening that section I was amazed on the cheap rates they put the cars for sale.

I got involved with one of the dealers who said he was selling Nigerian Customs auctioned cars.

To cut the story short, I ended up being scamed and many are still being scammed today. embarassed

Is there any hope of recovering the money?

Can these scammers be stopped from ripping the general public?

Do OLX managers know every user of their site and are they aware of this?

I will appreciate your kind responses please!!!

Am sorry but i think ure @ fault, olx states it clearly that u should neva fall for abroad or far distance dealings, olx doesn't negotiate, interfere.

U see, reading terms and condition can be useful @times, if it were to be in a court of law, u'll even pay for spoiling their reputation.

I am a user of OLX, i sold my home theatre, stab and also met new friends who sold a power bank to me...

Be wise next time, and when u see a cheap thing, dont just go for it, make enquires.
