My Take On Buhari’s 2015 Presidential Ambition - OAM4J by OAM4J: 3:50pm On Oct 16, 2014
Some months ago, I wrote a piece on why I think Jonathan should not be re-elected in 2015 and I did promise when asked on the thread to let the people know my opinion on Buhari’s 2015 presidential ambition. I think the time is right to talk about this since the general has formally declared to run. Unfortunately, my thread on Jonathan went with the data challenge that affected Nairaland. But for those who didn’t read it and are interested in reading it, you can find it here: http://oam4j..com/2014/04/why-jonathan-should-not-be-re-elected.html

Let me digress a bit and talk about my preferred candidates… If God calls on me today and tells me he is going to let me singlehandedly decide who should be the next president of Nigeria, then come May 2015 Madam “Due Process” Oby Ezekwesili will be sworn in as the next president. This is one person I believe understands the challenges of Nigeria and knows what must be done to move Nigeria on the path of greatness. Madam Oby is one courageous woman who I believe will without fear of favour pilot the affair of this nation like a true mother to greatness. Till date the government of the day is yet to take up her challenge for an open debate. I was also not surprised with her frank and sincere speech when APC invited her to their meeting.

But I doubt the political parties of the day will field someone like her. I also don’t see the likes of Dangote, Otedola etc putting their money in her campaign. But should this woman decide to contest for the highest office one way or the other, she has my support and vote, even if am sure she will not win.

My second preferred candidate is Babatunde Raji Fashola: In 2007 I was rooting for Funsho Williams as the next governor of my state - Lagos, then Funsho Williams was killed and I shifted my support for Jimi Agbaje. I disliked the way Tinubu came up with Fashola because at the back of my mind I felt he was trying to push his “boy-boy” on us, and I felt bad when he won but hoped for the best. But 2 years down the lane I came to Nigeria again and I saw a new and better Lagos. I breathe True Fresh-Air at Oshodi and drove on tarred road to my house unlike before. Everywhere I went I saw Fashola’s government working. And I said ‘thank God Fashola won’. Needless to say I supported his re-election in 2011.

With Fashola as the president of this country, I see our power problem finally solved and massive construction everywhere and Nigeria joining the league of developed Nations.

But in 2015, I doubt majority from the North will support any southern presidential candidate because they still feel cheated with the death of Yar’Adua. And all the likes of Peter Obi need to do is campaigned that Fashola ‘deported’ thousands of Ndigbos from Lagos and Fashola is Awolowo’s pikin... your guess is as good as mine on possible outcomes.

Even if Fashola does not become a president in 2015 I hope for the sake of the nation’s progress he is made the Power or Works’ Minister should the opposition win.

Now back to Buhari, in 2011, I supported and campaigned for this general and truly believed he could make a difference if elected, but it didn’t come to be. So I expected Buhari to follow through his promise of not contesting again. What I had hoped for was Buhari becoming a model to young, bright, fairly honest and courageous people to take over from him, giving them all the moral supports they need to succeed. But that didn’t happen.

The question therefore is: If I have to pick between Jonathan and Buhari who will I support?

While I would have preferred a more articulate and younger Buhari, I will certainly not choose or support a man that think stealing is not corruption... definitely not Jonathan. My views about him from my write up have not changed. So I will pick Buhari over Jonathan by miles. Buhari's records as Petroleum Minister, head of state and chairman of PTF speak volume.

I don’t place Buhari in the same intellectual capacity with Oby and Fashola, but what Buhari lacks in this department he has more in integrity, courage and ability to identify capable hands and use them. If we must face reality, as things stands in the opposition now, Buhari has more chances to send Mr I-had-no-shoe back to Otueke with million pairs of shoes to last him three lifetimes than any other opposition candidate.

…if we are unhappy with what we have, the logical thing to do is to attempt to change it with our votes and to change the next one too if we do not find what we want until we find what we all want. That is when the people would truly have attained power” – Babatunde Fashola

Let me end on a light note with something I observed here on Nairaland and other social media; anytime Buhari’s name is mentioned I see PDP supporters and Jonathanians suddenly become special consultants/advisers for the oppositions on how to choose the best presidential candidate. They will suggest 'better' candidates, analyse how Buhari is unelectable and how Buhari’s candidacy means easy passage for Jonathan. But IMO, I think they are afraid of Buhari. If they are sure Buhari is a walk-over for Jonathan, they will be encouraging the opposition to field him rather than advising them to choose another.

Thanks for reading.

Electing Buhari would be retrogressive, even with all of GEJ's failings I would not support an ageing man whose only claim to credibility is 'integrity' from way back in the early-mid 80's when probably half the Nigerians alive right now were not even born.

I don't really doubt his integrity, but clearly we need far more than just integrity at this moment. Buhari's utterances on violence in the North are not exactly palatable (albeit blown out of proportion by the PDP). Nonetheless he is not a suitable candidate - he is from a different era and should be mentoring younger candidates.

I think we can do much, much, better.

The moral of the thread is that Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan is not fit to be the president of Nigeria again.

He was the president of Nigeria when Aba Moro the minister of interior organised a sham recruitment exercise that led to the death of 19 jobless Nigerin youth after 1,500naira had been dubiously collected from more than a million of them.

President jonathan has failed the Nigerian youth

Well-said OAM4J. I have the same opinion more or less. You and others know I supported Ribadu passionately in 2011 yet was always, even back then, approving of a merger than would see Ribadu step down for Buhari. Unfortunately that did not come to pass and Buhari contested under the newly formed CPC.

Every Nigerian will know that what Buhari achieved, i.e 12 million votes, was commendable given the reality of the day. The CPC was a brand new Party with minimal influence at the time. Buhari was underfunded and under-supported by many of our influential politicians whereas today the likes of Saraki, Amaechi, Aregbesola, Fashola and many, many, many more will be behind him and working passionately for his win if he becomes the APC candidate. He will also be the candidate of the biggest opposition Party in Nigeria which is an entirely different kettle of fish in relation to the past where the ACN and CPC split votes competing against Jonathan. Now it will boil down to Nigerians choosing between GEJ or Buhari. Imperfect Buhari may be but not many doubt his ability to fight corruption. Not many can accuse Buhari of crass materialism. No one can claim he covets private jets, 1 billion Naria food. No one can ever postulate that Buhari will profligately take huge entourages of politicians across the world on meaningless Jamborees at the expense of Nigeria. What Nigeria needs now is what Buhari has in abundance.

The SW was apathetic in 2011 and the few who showed up voted for GEJ in the majority because of the belief he represented "transformation" and a departure from the past. We all know this is not the case today. Without mincing words, it is now crystal clear GEJ is possibly the most corruption-friendly President Nigeria has ever had. Haven seen the worst of GEJ, I can easily see a lot of Yorubas overcoming their bias against Buhari to vote for him because they now know it is unthinkable to give GEJ another 4 years with which he will use to destroy Nigeria further. The time is right for Buhari and events have converged correctly to mean his chances of landslide victory has never been this bright if everyone play their part.

Why must you ibos view everything through tribal lens' ?

when APC had their maiden conference at Abuja wasnt Oby Ezekwesili the guest speaker that was invited on the occassion ?

Heck, you ibos are the worst hit by Jonathans maladministration. The worst federal roads are in the southeast; the worst state Governors are in the southeast - Governor Thief-Odour Orji & Governor Martin Elechi(both are PDP)

you lot support PDP blindly because of GEj forgetting that the North whom you ibos love to hate have more than 13 of their Governors in PDP whilst the ibos only have 3

Gbawe you are very right, the Cpc was formed 3 month to the 2011 elections and buhari still managed to get 12 million votes. No governor's backing, no media presence and poor financial backing. It will be different this time around. I understand the pdp shivering since yesterday.

But I shudder at the prospect of having GEJ in the saddle for another 4 years at the rate and direction Nigeria is heading.

I will have to agree with you on oby and fashola as best fits and I dare add my love Dora Akunyeli-may she continue to rest in peace.I will pick a Jonathan over Buhari in the coming elections.

Jonathan was an accidental president with zero experience on solving the Nigerian problems. If we were to go back to the spirits of the times and capure the mood of the nation which desperatly needed a departure from the cabal that hijacked government and fought so that a 'new breed' can rescue US from the hands of a certain cabal to which GEJ emerged.

To be fair to a man as GEJ with good intent for a better nigeria and bearing in mind the Nigerian version of opposition as using all machavellian means to keep rookie GEJ distracted from his objectives it is safe to say he made some significant progress which can not be easily discarded.

He has learnt from his mistakes and a little matured on the job and probably identified his true enemies and the enemies of Nigerian masses and with a dangerous man as GEJ who has got nothing to lose after 2015 the masses are in for some eye openings. For good or bad I can't say.

I have nothing personal against the General but I feel he stands a greater chance in 2019.

Iyalode, the point here is facing reality.

El-Rufai is not contesting as President, rather he has chosen to become the Governor of Kaduna State. Ribadu is out of the equation, the reality on the ground is that the election is going to be between PDP and APC, most likely Jonathan and Buhari. So will you pick Jonathan over Buhari if you must choose? Do you think Buhari is more clueless than Jonathan?

Rather than vote GEJ or Buhari in next presidential elections, i would cast my vote for someone else (read random person ). Its 2014, the likes of GEJ and Buhari should have no business contesting our presidential elections and the only way to make the political parties know is if the youths do something unpredictable in the elections.
The other choice for me is to abstain but that makes no sense.

According to you Buhari's henchmen made Gejs administration ungovernable yet Gej hasnt arrested and prosecuted anyone of them. Doesnt that give credence to the fact president jonathan is weak and clueless.

The same GEJ that gave Hamzat Al-Mustapha, General Sanni Abacha's hitman a presidential pardon.

The same GEJ that withdrew the corruption charges against Mohammed Abacha, General Sani Abachas Son so that that the latter can contest in the Kano Gubernatorial election under PDP

The same GEJ that has a camaraderie with Ali Modu-Sheriff the founder of Mohammed Yusuf's Boko Haram

Buhari was asked to articulate his proposal in dealing with some of the issues you mentioned above, it seemed as if he didn't envisage those questions never mind have answers to them. GEJ is a disaster no doubt but I don't think Buhari will do any better. For those that believe strongly in his ability to deal with corruption, he has to deal with the NA and unfortunately for him, he no longer has a khaki and koboko to hand o.

We are caught between a rock and a hard place if GMB and GEJ are our only options sad

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, including Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, visited former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu in the United Kingdom, where he is recuperating after a knee surgery.

**********************************************************

Just as it was in 2011 when the JagaBandit sold out RibaduN after collecting his personal stomach infrastructure and promptly delivered south west + Edo votes to Jonathan.
Hopefully the JagaBandit will live long enough to deliver yet again and enjoy whatever amount he has received from the inCORRUPTible former military DICTATOR.

Re: My Take On Buhari’s 2015 Presidential Ambition - OAM4J by LadyExcellency: 4:45pm On Oct 16, 2014
OAM4J is of ACN/APC persuasion

Enough of this claim of neutrality. Not having a party card doesn't make you apolitical

The truth as we speak is that OAM4J is anti PDP

Even with the comment below the signs are all there for all to note

OAM4J:

Will you then prefer Bode George indirect rule?

Until we have a better alternative to AC.N we will insist AC.N should present a candidate we can trust. No to PDP.

The OP is only having fun though. Even Asiwaju himself will laugh at the joke.
