i started cooking when i was 12.

when one is in the dormitory, to eat school food is super challenging especially if you are from the Eastern part and find yourself at the North.

one got to eat you know. smuggle stoves into the dorm rooms, cook in doors and spray air fresheners. I could count how many times i ate school food.... Me and my friends hardly go to the dinning. that made me a good cook till date.

Anyone who thinks the kitchen is for the woman alone is in for a surprise.. Times have changed and the current climate is all about the survival of the fittest. Cooking skills are right now as valuable as money making skills and having a woman who can cook is a bonus

Bukatyne, my aim isn't to make excuses for men. I'm only stating how their system works. If I can be able to cook my meal myself, believe me I'm hundred times better off. My mum made sure of that but somehow my nature doesn't allow it.

I grew up being an only girl for a long time. I learnt how to put on gens, change car tires and change bulbs and a few 'electrical stuff' so see nothing special about that. My brothers all know how to cook and we shared housework equally too. My sons will toe thesame line.

Whether they tow or not, e no concern me.

Men will always be men. If you like teach them till thy kingdom come, it will come a time when he would dump all those stuff and start frequenting restaurants. House chores and cooking are really tiring for most men. When I mean tiring, I mean tiring.

For instance, my mum trained me quite well in that aspect. I can cook virtually everything. But right now I only boil noodles and I'm good to go. No time for all those pounding and turning of pots. Very few men retain their cooking skills as they grow because naturally they would prefer not to cook, especially ones that require time and extra care. They are just not that organized and focused as women and therefore cooking is really a hardwork for them.

If you have to force your boys to learn to cook, prepare to buy countless pots and make sure you have a fire extinguisher ready somewhere.

I dnt quite angree with u..any man who learnt how to do domestic chores frm childhood would get used to it and also won't forget it neither will he get tired of It..except he has a busy job that won't allow him do it or a wife.meanwhile i talked about teaching a boy child not forcing..they are two diFferent things..when you teach,there is joy but when you force..you alrdy know the result..thanks

Of course!. The first time I asked my brother to help me pound crayfish, he gave me this disgusted look like 'am I a girl'. By the time I finished with him ehn, now he will come by himself to ask me if there's anything I will like him to do. He is now a pro at pounding afang.

I learnt how to do a lot of domestic work while I was growing up..if you will agree with me,mothers are only concerned about their girl-child being domestically inclined. They teach their girl-child probably because they feel knowing or doing domestic work is meant for just the female..

I personally don't agree to the fact that domestic work is meant for only the female..I think mothers should also teach their boy-child domestic work too..if you can teach your girl how to sweep,clean,cook,do the dishes and laundry then your boy should also learn that as well..it goes a long way..

The importance of the boy-child being domestically inclined is that when he grows up,he stands on his own.That knowledge helps him take care of his personal needs not to go about looking for someone to do it for him..this is my opinion...

HABA AUNTY!stop messin up d men(not d boys)!my dad is a great cook,he influenced my cooking skills alot.i am now a full blown fine man wit a familly,my sweety no fit do of any shakara wit cooking at all,when they r away, i do my thing.i hav not bin to a restaurant for about 15 years now!thats my principle,No eating outside,DO YOUR COOKING YOUR SELF!EVEN WHEN AM OFF TO WORK ,I COOK MY FOOD.my staff (married& d likes)would be like...mr MiKe na wa for you o!bla bla bla bla non sense non sense!.. but trust me now,its has become a culture and ritual wit me,and it has helped me in saving a great deal people

Well mine was a bit of a twist. My mother loved to cook a lot and her family members knows her for good cooking skills. One of my friends recounted on the taste of her vegetable soup lol But the irony of it is that I didn't learn cooking from her but from my friends and I cook my meals alright. A few weeks ago, I decided to meet my elder brother at our family house and I had to do all the cooking, both soups and stew at all time till I left there.

I will wake up. Go and fetch water. Wash 2 cars. Sweep the big compound. Clear grass in and in front of the compound. Go to farm. Cultivate maize, cassava, yam, and that irritating melon on saturdays while my sisters are watching cadbury breakfast tv. Then you expected me to go and still be washing plates, sweeping house, and cooking with my 3 sisters? Did they join me in my own chores? I will listen to this if you say girls should also do chores that boys do. Not a one-way stupid logic. I learnt to cook on my own.

Its a normal thing in our house. I have three elder sisters, am the first boy and two lil boys. But then, my mum never made us feel like we were supposed to be 'kings.' We also did the work at home. Heck; I became a good cook at home. When we came of age, we were the ones that even pounded yam. I remember my cousin who came to live with us but left after about 5 years. He felt a boy should not do house chores, but my mum felt different.

If you grew up in my house, you would definitely do all house chores. And I would also instil it in my boys.
