He only loose to his opponents about two times at Congress level, at presidential level he only contested once and Won, even won re-election.
The area people refers to his failure were:
* Loss of Children (about three two)
* Collapse of business
* Defeats(set back) during Civil
* Two times Congress level loss
* Probably Marital problem

So Abraham Lincoln never contested more than once for Presidential Position - correct me if am wrong
