Synagogue Tragedy: The Obituary Of God Or The Obituary Of Common Sense? by plaetton: 7:37pm On Nov 06, 2014
The tragic and horrific deaths of 115 people who were victims of a collapsed church building in one of the Lagos suburbs is one that evokes a lot of emotions.
Aside from the horrors of seeing 115 mangled bodies, when we consider where they died and how they died, it causes a lot pain and stress to different people.

On different threads on this forum , I have often lamented and warned (almost prophetically) of the danger of allowing Men or Women whose belief system is not grounded on objective reality in positions where they make decisions that affect other people, large groups of people for that matter.

I have also warned and lamented on the mentally debilitating effects that our breed of pulpit Pi.m.ps and clowns have on our NATIONAL IQ, our collective intelligence, Our collective IQ, Our collective reasoning abilities when we allow and even glorify the public display of St.upi.dity on national television.
It is a well know fact that intelligence and IQ can be dumbbed down over a period of time when distorted aspects of reality are fed to the masses repeatedly. There is a saying that a lie repeated every so often tend to become truth for the receiver.

So my question for Nairalanders is this :
What kind of emotions does this tragedy invoke inside you?

Do you think it marks the obituary of god as we know it, or do you think it rather marks the final obituary of common sense as we know it in Nigeria?

Neither of the two. To cling to any side of the divide will be drawing hasty generalizations. And you may ask, what is wrong with any generalization of this sort. To which I will answer, it blinds reason and makes you guilty of one side of the divide, which is, though personlized now-the death of your common sense.

Op ur writeup is a parable. I can't decode where u got sense, intelligence and IQ from the collapse of a building.
Re: Synagogue Tragedy: The Obituary Of God Or The Obituary Of Common Sense? by urheme: 9:01pm On Nov 06, 2014
Op we all feel bad about the lost of life at the synagogue, but not for the building though, i still feel tb joshua must be held liable for this tragedy, failing to honour the summon of the inquest is very offensive, the worst i heard was that his lawyer refused the service of the summon on his client behalf. Sound like a joke and the panel fell for this.

What can i say, they have been briebed grin the man of god bought their conscience and the whole world is watching

Despite all that happened, there is hardly a vacant seat in the church on sundays, this make me believe that religion is for the gullible mind.
RIP to the dead but there was contributory negligence from their own part.

If common sense is common as said, these remaining deluded followers will realise that they have been scamed.

@ Reyginus,
What I asking is; by all accounts, shouldn't this tragedy be the bona fide obituary of god?

For, in this tragedy, I saw that mangled corpse of god along with the unlucky 115.
I am wondering if others saw it as well.

But my surprise and shock is that rather than a befitting obituary and requiem for god, My fellow country men have to slay , mutilate and drag the mangled corpse of reason as necessary sacrifice to keep god alive.

I'm still wondering how God comes into the picture in this your epistle, the SCOAN tragedy was clearly caused by human error, please get that into your head Mr plaetton . the funny thing with so called atheists is they can't stop talking about a God they don't believe in. Quite ironic if you ask me .

Human error?
That's my point bro.
Where is god before and after humans make these tragic errors?

Is God incapable if overriding common human errors, especially when such errors portend doom for his faithful worshippers who beseech him day and night to protect them from such calamities, more especially in a temple dedicated to him?

Your logic is laughable. what's the difference between the collapse of a "church " building and the collapse of the clothing factory in Bangladesh? and besides , God doesn't dwell in Temples made with human hands.

Both are tragedies. Both were caused by wicked men who put profit ahead of lives .
But what makes a church building collapse much more intriguing is that it is supposed to be a sanctuary where people come to feel the presence, the protective power of a loving god.

The tragedy raises serious questions about what we believe, what people are being sold by pulpit p.I.MPs.
If god that you beseech every hour cannot save a person, a believer, from such a horrific and embarrassing death, then what can God really do for you on this earth.

Who needs god, and why?

So my question for Nairalanders is this :
What kind of emotions does this tragedy invoke inside you?

Do you think it marks the obituary of god as we know it, or do you think it rather marks the final obituary of common sense as we know it in Nigeria?

Since I'm finally getting there with the shayo make I answer grin
The kind of emotion this invokes inside me is hard to describe. Apart from the pleasant effects of shayo flowing through me, it invokes a deep contemplation. Obviously, God does not love those who travel the world to worship his belligerent, blood-thirsty and jealous persona. This is evidenced in many other observations too. So the next emotion flowing through me is that of pity and regret for those who STILL worship the belligerent, blood-thirsty and jealous sky dweller. Furthermore I am in deep meditation over the question whether perhaps the worshippers were caught having s.ex in a sinful position before, which would of course justify this atrocity by the sky dweller.
Sarcasm aside... it's sad that people got killed while doing what they thought was the right thing to do. Unfortunately I doubt anyone will question whether the sky dweller really exists after this though. Instead it will be the usual "mysterious ways" argument.

so you agree that the tragedy was caused by human error right ? God is clearly not in support of greed or covetousness. not withstanding, I'm clearly not favoring the pastorpreneurs, but the crux of the matter is that all this tragedies could clearly have been avoided. I'm sad life was lost but blaming God for the tragedy is just pathetic grasping at straws by a well known atheist on this forum.

Maybe they were some people having doggy style in the building, so that justify the allowance of the collapse of the building by God. God's ways are mysterious, am very sure because someone was having doggy Which wasn't What God ordained, So he was angered and sent the fighter jet.

Hmmm. The god-idea can not just die like that. Am beginning to believe that religion is part of the evolutionary survival strategies of the human specie. I tell you , the tragic occurences only serve to strengthen the 'faith' of many because 'we are in the end times'.
Sad to admit it, the stupidity of religion will still be around for a long time to come especially in the dark corners of human civilization such as poverty-striken Africa.

So God is not powerful enough to prevent the collapse? You are such a lunatic.

I am very sure you must have attributed it to God Fr the few that survived, and dismissed the other people that died and say It's God's plan. Isn't it?

people got killed because they were negligent with their lives, faith in religion or in a pastor is not faith in God, reasoning enhance faith and not the other way round, most religious followers do not think because they have been hypnotised.

man was born to die some days and this should not be attributed to God's anger when a death is tragic, as for tb Joshua and his contractors who have raised substandard buildings in the name of god should not go unpunished for they have breech the laws of our land.

as to the dead, I will say tb Joshua has no contract with any one of then whatsoever, they were in the collapsed building by chance and by their own illegal and voluntary movement, they were looking for god and so they have found god.

answer---a sky dweller does not exist but God exist.

don't ask me for proves.
