FG To Commence Work On Three Coal Power Plants by Obinoscopy(m): 2:14pm On Jan 05, 2015
The Federal Government is set to commence work at three coal-fired power plants located across the country in 2015.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo who disclosed this did not give specific details, but it is believed that the coal power plants could include the 3000 megawatts (MW) plant that is being developed by Zuma Power in Kogi state and the 1000MW plant expected to be built by Atlas Petroleum Corporation in Enugu state.

The federal government hinted that about 2.8 billion metric tonnes of coal deposits have been left untapped for years now in Nigeria.

It has been canvassed that the use of these coal deposits, amongst other renewable energy sources such as biomass, solar, wind and small hydro to generate electricity for Nigeria can reduce instances of vandalism of petroleum pipelines which supply gas to thermal power plants.

The Power Minister clarified that balancing Nigeria’s reliance on thermal generated electricity with other sources of electricity like solar, biomass, wind and other sustainable alternative sources has been a daunting challenge confronting the country.

According to him, selling the potentials in other alternative sources of energy to Nigerians was becoming a difficult task to accomplish and urged that such messages be taken to rural parts of Nigeria.

I suggest not now till after elections. Enough abandoned projects! Even after elections invest more on our Universities first to produce quality graduates...upgrade the labs and curriculum and get rid of paper-tiger, partisan, lecturers. Who will run the plants for Nigeria - the Chinese? grin

Good move FG
But
I think it's time we go "Nuclear".
BTW, we should be utilizing our "solar" energy more effectively than even this coal and hydro projects. If we could combine solar with coal with Nuclear(exempting Hydro<cox water level may drop anytime> and thermal<that consume fuel>wink, Nigeria will be a better place. Imagine the job these will generate---millions of job seekers will be taken off the "job-market".

But, last time, i read about China spending 25Billion to generate 22,000MW, and Nigeria spending 35Billion to generate 2500MW, though i'm not sure how true this is, but, it's time we focus on the "future" and that future is Nuclear.

IT'S TIME TO GO NUCLEAR NIGERIA

We've been hearing this news during every election. in 2011, this news surfaced..nothing happended. Now again 2015, another election year, the same news again. We are waiting to also read that FG plans to go into windmill in the North to increase electricity generation.
Had it been that oil price are not crashing, we'll also read that FG plans to repair and even build new refineries.

We are no longer fools.
If after 6 years, we still haven't learnt our lesson, then something is definitely wrong somewhere.

Good one. If only we've been combining different sources of energy together,by now we wouldn't have to bother about power generation. We relied too much on the dams initially, and later started putting much emphasis on gas. Of all these, coal is about the cheapest and most effective way to generate power. If we continue like this, there'd be hope of finally ending our epileptic power supply.

And they said GEJ is clueless.
Well... if this is clueless ness, we need more of it.
.
.
.
GEJ... the conspiracy against your first emergence was strong and this election is no diff, but all i know is that you are the only man God anointed to occupy Aso Rock 2009-2019. And it shall be so. They said the will make Nigeria ungovernable for you and behold we see it happening daily in boko bombings. They accuse you of corruption and forget how you routed the longstanding fertilizer scam and many more. They said you are clueless and behold clueless ness gave us better road s to travel on, new rail transportation options, improvement in electricity especially this Christmas and many more. Please continue your clueless ness. Because past leaders who were clue full raped our democracy and battered our economy. So now God brought the clueless one to rule- using the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. Dont be distracted by their propaganda because we have all seen beyond it. Continue your good work.

Does the president thinks that we are fools in this nations

Does he thinks the youths would be carjole with all this promise of this and that just to win votes

All this years..... Why didn't he fulfill all this programs
Why did he delayed to the last minute to start rolling programs that he will do this, he will do that.

All I keep hearing is rolling of elephant project just some few weeks to elections
Is it this programs that money for elections campaign or electoral spending going to come out.

I just don't understand the rush for all this programs and contract awarding at the tail end of his reign.
