I did an extensive of search around the new York/new jersey area and Hackensack was about the cheapest I got. I would like to know if any other cheaper hospital comes up around this area.

I have been receiving a lot of PM with regards to my post on John Peter Smith hospital. I would appreciate if you could put these enquiries here just so that others to can benefit from these replies. I have learnt a lot from this forum and would like others to benefit several months down the line. Another reason is because I believe other people have used JPS too and might be able to profer answers to questions I might not be able to as I would be limited to only my personal experience. While I would continue to respond to PMs,I would appreciate it if you please put your enquires here.

@bj2012golf...how far? Was at the embassy on monday to notarize documents and saw a lot of people given visa, my mind immediately when to you. That embassy is so sane, compared to what we always face in lagos.

Hi
Are you still using Hackensack? I have settled for them and I have booked an appointment with a doctor for Friday.

@Olhar can you please help me as well, i got the Gwinnett bill yesterday and they have charged me $9900, i am not sure whom should i mail to get this resolved. please advise me. thank you sad

Olhar:
Thank you all for your advice
@ mimibe and @dakotchic

i finally got my Zero balance yesterday from gwinnett, after i mailed the management on friday, a lady from the financial department was assigned to help sort my issue out and the excess bill was withdrawn, so am cleared…
please for those that applied for niaja passport in atlanta, do you get the passport same day you go for the interview? and after paying online and buying the 30 dollars money order, do i buy a self addressed overnight delivery envelope or i also do that as money order and they sort it themselves?

uote author=bloggerina post=28129667]Hello again,
Dr Risq attended to me for 2 days in postpartum when my doctor was off duty. He seemed nice sha very elderly, he reminded me of my dad who was also a doctor.
WHMC is a very nice hospital tho, single occupancy rooms for you so you have your privacy. My room in labour & delivery fine for my eyes so the, I told the nurses I wanted to leave the room because I was afraid they would bill me more. The nurses that attended to me that night were nigerians, they just laughed at my "bushness". Lol anyway they have good staff that's what am trying to say.

The prices they gave you are already discounted for self-pay but you will get a discount for pathology(labs) and ultrasound if you ask. If you don't ask, they will chop your money and clean mouth. Epidurl is $1200 if u don't ask for discount, the bill will be almost $4k.

I wish you safe delivery mama.
Cheers

hello all we got a baby boy on 23 dec 2014 at Gwinnett Hospital Atlanta, the nurses and all duty doctors were super good and we got very good service except one of the nurses who was rude to us and we dont know why. i have been waiting for the bill to arrive from the hospital but since it didnt come till date i requested for itemized statement and we got a email today morning. the break up is as below. not sure if that look legit to me. i wanted to share with all the experts here so that they can guide me to resolve this asap. i am still at Atlanta and waiting for passport to arrive.

Private Room OB $2400 (during child birth)
Private Room after birth $1400 (shifted to other room)
Pharmacy $480 (fentanyl citrate, fentanyl Bupivac, Bupivacaine & Oxytocin)
Pharmacy others $36 (pain killer)
Lab Charges for various test $271
Anesthesia Level 2 $1193 (they charged me for this and above this i am gonna get a separate bill of $1200 from Anesthesiologist so dont know what are this charges for)
Durgs details $875 (they charged me for Lactated ringers @ $154 each dont know for real is that expensive?)
Recovery room - Vaginal EA Hour $1310 (charged 2 times $655 each and dont know why)
labor Room Delivery $720
Fetel monitoring $181
urinary catheterization $140

Total $9006

please advise me to resolve this.

the first question is that did your delivery go smoothly or were there any complications?

Secondly, did you not have a package deal with them i.e an agreement with them for a Birthing plan that should capture some of these costs all in?

Maybe the Atlanta/Gwinnet folks can help here but clearly they have charged you item by item (for example charging you for OB room and then separately for another room when they moved you) - this is usually avoided when you have a package deal.

Also I see some red flags - were you induced? were you informed that the labor would be augmented? I see oxytocin there which is used to induce labor or help labor move along. You will need to investigate this and confirm the useage of all these drugs they have listed here.

Anaesthesia - you will need to speak to the anaesthesia people directly. I see level 2 there, you need to ask them and jack them up seriously

How is recovery room separate from private room after birth

Fetal monitoring?? Was your baby fine after birth? What were they monitoring exactly?

Urinary Catheterisation? Is that a joke? Something that any nurse or junior doctor can do with eyes closed?

This is the reason why the American healthcare system sucks.

Just be armed with your facts and be ready to fight for your rights. I dey vex sef.

Ok. One last question please... Did you have to take another trip to LaGuardia to board? Or your flight from Nigeria dropped you there?

No. The flight stopped at JFK but it's $13 by bus from JFK to LGA
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by godblessamerica: 2:17am On Jan 07, 2015
yes the delivery was smooth there was no complication whats so ever. i was given epidural during the birthing to avoid pain and thats all. nothing more nothing less. i was admitted when i was 2 cm dilated, i am surprised myself as to why have they charged me for delivery room and labor room? thats a big red flag as they have charged me for OB room and the room shifted later after birth. in pharmacy they charged me for lactation ringers $875 thats IVY if i am not wrong. can the IVY be that expensive? i doubt really. they didnt have any package deal at Gwinnett so we have to go as per the price quote given. it was $4000 - $6000 and then 40% discounts for self pay.
what about anesthesia level 2 i dont understand that? also they did no monitoring for the baby. yaa Urine catheter was some kind of joke when they charge like that. any other Gwinnett people, please advise how did you guys go about it.

@MrsDan
Congrats on your new born and safe return to Nigeria.

Just wanted to know.... How long did you stayed at northside after the birth? Also you said you refused the use of the nursery, you baby was in your room i guess. where you charged for the nursery bed?

I will also be glad if you can share the name and number of the pediatrician that charged $150 and the OBgyn that charged $2550

I am presently in Atlanta making plans for early second quarter comeback.

I will also send you a PM.

Thanks

I was just going to ask sef. Because this may just be the entire bill assuming you are not self pay. Have you discussed with them that you are self pay?
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by godblessamerica: 4:43am On Jan 07, 2015
That's before discounts. But they still have over charged me. They charged $875 for 5 IVY Which they gave me during child birth. IVY can't be that expensive. Secondly why charged for recovery room and labor room again. Plus anesthesia charges are $1300 remember the charges of anesthesologist isn't yet come to me! Wondering what is that 1300 for?

So its a case of discussing with them naa ni.

Before you harrass them, just secure the agreed discount first o! Before you will go and hassle them, and they pull back on the discount.

Also the ATL / Gwinett folks can weigh in too, to tell you how its done and who exactly you should be discussing with.

Cheers, and congrats!
