maybe in those days, it is derogatory. But ever since i grew up to know and use that word, it has never been meant to slight others.

Infact, it has always been seen by me and many others who use it as the exact opposite of Bachelor and the word "bachelor", is not derogatory.

Words do take a different meaning and different conotation over a period of time. Maybe it is time for everyone to stop seeing the word "Spinster" as derogatory but the exact opposite of bachelor.
