As the Independent National Electoral Commission conduct mock elections using the controversial card readers, the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have disagreed over the performance or otherwise of the card in Kano.

The APC representative, Hakeem Baba Ahmad, said the machine successfully captured about 60 per cent of the test voters while 40 per cent had difficulties with fingerprinting and biometric data.
However, his PDP counterpart, Umar Maimistaleta, a former governorship aspirant in the state said there were huge problems with the card readers and it might end up disfranchising many Nigerians.

The exercise, conducted at Danmaliki Ward of Kumbotso Local Government area of the state, which both covered the municipality and the rural areas, saw hundreds of women, youth and elderly persons trooping out as early as 5.30am to 7am to be tested.
Mohammed Adam leader of the Nigeria United for Democracy, Kano wing, explained to journalists that the turnout of electorates from the Danmaliki Ward was marvellous.

He said according to their observation as civil society observers the card reader was doing a fantastic and excellent work with 60 per cent success. He said the 40 per cent failure stemmed mainly from the fact that some of the test voters were farmers and women with henna decorations on their hands.

The United for Democracy group urged INEC to provide sprit Ink for those whose hands could not be captured by the biometric data machines before the elections so that the exercise could be 90 per cent successful.

INEC Kano Resident Electoral Commissioner, Munkaila Abdullahi, said the card reader was a huge success, but he still observed some problems which he has since directed his team to register. He assured INEC would come out with a way of addressing them before the elections.

Meanwhile, the PDP representative, Mr. Umar expressed doubts the card reader would guaranteed a successful elections in the next few weeks to come. He said INEC could have allowed the card readers be used in future elections while this one should be done with the PVC as they are.

That is why this test is needed, so as to correct any anomalies that are likely to arise on that day. Sure INEC would work on it. Its still a pass for them.

Waiting for the correction to be done before the elections. No stories after now because they got four years to prepare. Just imagine what would have happened if we hadthe elections on 14nth yet Jega won't take responsibility. He 'll rather shift blame to security chiefs and the federal govt and hollow headed fool will join him in doing that.

For those Hausa/Fulani, women and girls who could not get their fingers verified by the card reader machine, the pictures below show the reason why they were rejected by the card reader machine.

Those people need to get their fingers cleaned before coming to the polling unit.

Lack of education is the problem with most of these people.

65% of registered voters got their PVC, out of this 65%, 60% could successfully vote.

In simple terms out of 100 people wey register, 65 of them collect card, out of this 65 na only 35 wey the the machine (card reader) allow to vote.

That means say na 35 people out of 100 decide election results

That is a disaster. INEC is not ready for PVC and card readers

The problem with this line of argument is Inec itself. They have never given the impression this card readers might fail. All their press releases and interview have been to re enforce the impression of a fail proof process. This beta test has proven them totally wrong.

We all now see the sense in postphoning the elections.

When the elections where postphoned, opposition will politicise it and their followers will blindly follow, saying they want to rig or PDP is scared of loosing.
This administration has tried and is committed to ensuring elections are conducted with a high degree of fairness.

The same opposition would have cried foul play if the elctions had held and GEJ won.

Pls let's allow our leaders do their work and shun any opposition talks.

GEJ is still the best Nigerians have got so far.

the card reader will not be used for the election.

Today was just a test and it had 40% failure and APC and their brain washed followers called it a success?
I bet you that in live election, the card readers will record 70% failure because there will be more pressure on it.

Again JEGA chose an APC state in the north to test the card reader, Nansense!

The baffling part is the 40% failure rate and INEC still managed to call the process successful!

Are these people from another world? A reader that would disenfranchise 40% of eligible voters, is this the result of Jega's 4-year preparation?

Some are even saying they can fix it before election which is about two weeks away, is this what we should be talking about now?

Any system/reader that has failed two weeks before its use should be scrapped altogether.

I've been saying it, JEGA and the APC has a sinister alliance.

JEGA must go, what a shoddy preparation!

But the same exercise was successful in Lagos and Delta state today. Why did the women in Kano come out to do the exercise with painted fingers? They need to clean their fingers before coming to polling booth.

You are a joker. The same exercise was successful in Lagos and Delta state today. The people who couldn't get verified today in Kano was a s a result of their fingers being painted before coming to the exercise. They need to clean their fingers before coming to the poling booth.

Would you have accepted a 40% failure rate on election day? Remember Kano is APC's strong hold. Imagine your party loosing millions of votes.

Also these women used those same fingers to register.

The card readers were a success in Lagos and Delta. The issue about Henna on the fingers of some Northerners can be resolved easily through cleaning. So that's not an excuse.

Card Readers are must. PDP will not be allowed to rig. grin

Where is this one from? Two state from each political zone was chosen to test run, Lagos & Ekiti in SW & no report of abnormalities yet guess something is wrong in Kano & INEC will fix it in due time. FYI card reader has come to stay no room for PDP rigging.

Poor

The card readers run on battery. ... how will they manage charging it if it runs out?

So if someone runs in and takes off with the machine from a polling station. .... its all over for the eligible voters registered in that location?

The card reader is a machine and machines are bound to fail. This is a day's event and we cannot afford disenfranchising eligible voters by being dependent on an untested machine

At a minimum we can have the voters register as an alternative incase the machine fails but total dependence on an untested machine alone is a no no
