" 5 years ago a project I was working on led me to the creeks of Niger Delta. I saw first hand the suffering of the people especially the women and children who have been neglected, they can't farm on their land or fish on their rivers due to the oil spills which contaminate their environment. And nobody cares about them or how they survive. Since then I started an NGO to help those women, better their lives and send their children to school. So far we've been able to get help from the govt and some organisations abroad. I came to the social media week to campaign for their cause." www.thehumansoflagos.com

Hi guys, few weeks ago we shared some stories about 2 women, one lost her shop to fire and the other was robbed. The story got a lot of positive feedback, lots of people indicated interest in helping. I went back to check on them and luckily the fire incident woman is back on her feet and has rebuilt. The one that still needs help is the mama. Iya Abeji the mama that was robbed on her way to the market to buy her goods.(fish) she lost everything and had to resort to carrying load for people in Idumota to survive. Read her story here https://m.facebook.com/humansoflagosng/photos/a.809546899116697.1073741828.808862862518434/817334625004591/?type=1&source=46 or https://instagram.com/p/ySWhLdE30N/ . A lot of people indicated interest in helping her but couldn't cos we were yet to set up any fundraiser. We wanted something that would be transparent and credible to maintain the integrity of the page. We reached out to some public figures and we were lucky to get a positive response from the guys at the future Africa. They will handle the donations, help the mama get back to her fish business and makes sure the funds are used for the intended purpose. This is the first time we are raising funds for anyone on this page and we hope it becomes a success. To donate visit www.thefutureafrica.com/donate click on donate, when filling in your name add Iya Abeji at the end then pay with your card. Will also share the Mama's story with the donation link again tomorrow, please do help repost this and again tomorrow. Thanks. www.thehumansoflagos.com

I thought u were going to deliberate on consent.
Tochi, when dealing with the underages especially that which requires their pictures be published on the internet, it's very important to take at least an informed consent even if not a documented one from their guardians. That's the ethics in research and studies.
Be careful and don't get sued my brother....

Hey guys, thanks for pointing that out. I do understand the best practice when it comes to photographing minors. on this particular little girl I actually got to meet and talk to her mum and our darling little girls does more of playing around in the shop than helping lol but she is so adorable. The minors featured earlier on the page, their father was around and he consented.

"I used to sell dried fish but last year on 23rd November I was robbed on my way to buy my market in Ibadan and I didn't have any other money to continue my fish business so I started carrying load(alabaru) for people in Idumota, it's hard work and my body pains me but I take pain medicine everyday. Today is Sunday and there is no market so I sleep here and rest all day and continue work on Monday when market starts. My son is not happy I'm doing this but he just entered polytechnic and can't do anything to help."

We put up a post on Sunday with a link to donate and raise funds for this mama, rent a shop for her and get her back to her fish business but so far we haven't gotten any donations yet, when we first featured this mama, a lot of people indicated interest in helping her. I hope they can see this now and know they can now donate and help. We are partnering with the guys at the future Africa project and they'd handle the donations. To donate visit www.thefutureafrica.com/donate click on donate then on the paga page, choose pay with card. Thanks guys.... I hope we can pull this off.

"I want to be a professional footballer but my dad sad it's education first. I'm not a school person, I feel like I'm wasting my time, I should be out there following my dream.
Last year was my saddest year ever, I lost my best friend, he had appendix and the doctor operating on him made a mistake during the process. The hardest part was that before he died, he started getting better and responding to treatments. Then we would chat all night and I was so happy and full of hopes then one morning, we were told he has passed on." www.thehumansoflagos.com

" I've always had a thing for computers and the sciences but after my secondary school I couldn't get the course I wanted, I tried my best but was denied admission and had to settle for Architecture. I hated it at first, but I had to do it cos I didn't want to stay at home. During my first 2 years, I didn't pay attention at all, I was just playing around. I wasn't just interested in the course. Then the next year, computers were becoming popular and I've always been interested in computers and it made me start taking the course serious. I learnt Archicad and started using computers to design instead of the conventional method. Nobody payed attention then and even the lecturers were against using computers. Using computers soon became the best way and I was already miles ahead of my course mates and became the go to guy in the department."

"I started drawing and painting since I was a child. My father was an artist so each day after school I will go and sit beside him and try to copy what he was doing. I was very little then and with time I started getting better. My father was a very talented artist but he didn't get the exposure he deserved and we struggled to make ends meet. I just finished school and opened my own shop, I want to do better than he did, I want to hold exhibitions, I want to be able to earn a living doing what I love. I don't know if it's luck or connection but there are some people I'm better than but they are more recognised. I just finished this portrait of Banky With and Wole Soyinka I don't know how to get it to them I just want them to have it.
Woooooow this guy is really good at what he does I almost thought those paintings were real pictures. He's far better than those people that would paint and you can never predict who they have painted.

Yesterday we shared the story of Tobi the street artist who painted an amazing portrait of Banky W. With the help of our lovely followers on Instagram we tagged and mentioned Banky W till he saw it and he loved it and today met Tobi today and bought the portrait. We wish Tobi well and hope this is the start of something great for him. To everyone out there doing something good and not been noticed, just keep working hard and one day your light will shine. Keep doing your thing and you'll one day get to the top where you belong #HumansOfLagos www.thehumansoflagos.com
Very nice the power of information and publicity. May God continue to bless the work of your hands.

"When we were in UNN, there was this our guy that always wore the same shirt and trouser everyday. He always depended on us to survive each semester. Some made fun of him and his dad who was the security man in the school. He was the kind of guy nobody mentioned when they talk about those that will be rich in the future. Fast forward now, he is the richest among us and everyone is now looking for a way to get his contacts and ask him to fix them up with something." www.thehumansoflagos.com

"My daughter will sit for jamb in a few days time. I came to print her exam slip for her, I've been here since morning, there is a long queue and there server is down. I knew it wasn't going to be easy that's why I left my work to sort it out myself. I know when she gets to the University she would eventually face all this kind of stress but I want to help her as much as I can now before that time comes. Some people here think I'm the one writing jamb *laughs* maybe cos I look young, When I walk with my daughter on the streets people actually think we are siblings. Still can't believe my daughter is all grown up and will soon be leaving home for Uni. It still feels like yesterday, the first time I held her in my hands." www.thehumansoflagos.com

There are just a lot I want for my bucket list...
I want to do this, then that and blah blah blah
At times it makes one so anxious and jittery when things don't go as planned..
With most of these pictures, it just makes me feel my bucket list is just a selfish one that contributes little or nothing to humanity

Does it make sense to you?

Yes it does make sense to me too, I had lists centered around myself alone too but I've started to make adjustments, though I haven't given back to humanity yet but hopefully before the end of the year. You should try altering your wishes too.
