Truth be told, the KIng didnt start this whole tension between the Yoruba's and the IGbo's, the tension started way before the Presidential elections when it was clear that even our Igbo childhood friends were all tribalistic and were going to do down with GEJ no matter what. I meam at home, at the office in the staff bus it was clear that even if GEJ did nothing, Igbos were willing to call him "our son" so he could do no wrong, forgetting that Yorubas, Hausa and all of us were instrumental to his been there. So The king didnt start this, this whole thing has been going on for a while. And it was proven when the Lagos was almost split 50%-50% between APC/PDP largely because the Igbos wanted to disrupt power in Lagos. The king only had the guts to say it out. Now I have no words for the Igbos, their actions do not surprise me, they dominate and seek to control and take over where ever they settle, they and the Fulanis have that in common - we all should know that by now, what surprises me is the way the omo oni le in lagos sit back, smile and stupidly watch as Igbos take over Lagos. Ohh yes and they are doing that. Sey 2015 elections might still get a Yoruba Governor, 2019 yiou will all be amazed that Indigbo would win lagos. JUst sit there smile and do nothing o. The Igbos would daze you, you know yorubas like to talk a lot, something that no one can even dream of in Igbo land, they so here without any remorse and all you do is smile and talk big grammer. We the yoruba outside of lagos would come and rescue you when they have almost finished you. Make no mistakes, igbos know exactly what tey want in lagos, its the yorubas that like to act like big brothers.. Keep it up. shey e ti gbo.

It's already very clear to the leaders of Yoruba lands and Hausa lands; and after these elections I suppose there likely will be hell to pay both on the federal and state levels. The political structure and fabric of this nation will likely be permanently changed in a way that will be colossally disadvantageous to the SE. Already, PDP has been shamefully reduced from an almost invincible national party to a fragmented SE (+ SS) party so to speak. Because it's perhaps reasonable to assume that the other minority tribes still remaining in the PDP will also be alienated from that party in a matter of time.

What we might experience in years to come is the SE + SS splitting out of Nigeria. Even if this were to be the case, the ibos will still be the ultimate losers because that is when the pretentious fraternity with the SS will end because then the SS will make it clear they are not ibos or brothers to the ibos but independent tribes of their own. The SS will never allow ibos an inch near their lands to access the oil. Unless it can be magically transported through thin air, the billions-of-nairas-worth of assets ibos possess in the south west will largely be forfeited and re-claimed through Yoruba militias like the OPC. Same thing will happen in the North. If all the ibos returned back to their various indigenous states in the SE, even they wouldn't get along because somehow they always want to dominate themselves and this will lead to crisis. Generally ibos are arrogant and lack moral respect. Age means nothing to them. They only respect money, and so only respect themselves and others according to the money they possess. So ultimately, in a divided Nigeria, ibos have few to gain and plenty to lose. For their sake, I hope Nigeria doesn't divide. The SS has a lot to gain in terms of having 100% resource control if they were to become independent states. And if that were to happen, I can bet my money on it that the first thing they will do is probably drive out the ibos from their lands because the SS will never agree to be part of the so-called Biafra republic the ibos dream of. The SS will choose to remain independent states of their own, so that the ibos won't later label their territories a no man's land and then try to take over it with subtlety.

The civil war that happened is long over but the hate still lives on in the minds of the majority of ibos. It's time to drop the hate and forge ahead and embrace other tribes. That's part of the change we want, so we can build a better Nigeria. Nigerians loves the ibos and Nigeria needs the ibos just as much as the ibos needs Nigeria and I think it's time ibos start loving other Nigerians. Because right now all the majority of ibos do is "tolerate" other tribes, especially because they aren't the majority and they are in lands belonging to those other tribes. There's no love.

From a purist view, Lagos actually belongs to no one. It was formerly the Nigerian capital that harboured all tribes in the country seeking new opportunities, hence why its the most developed state among others and more western states. Its more like the USA who had the native red indians as the indigenes but now they can't claim it belongs to them, it was developed by the jews, old norse and anglo-saxon races. There would be no USA without that because it wouldn't have been has developed as it is today earning the phrase, America,no mans land. Same with lagos, it is reaping the fruits of ethnic intergration. Its quite silly to even call someone a visitor or immigrant in his own civil jurisdiction. Anyone who engages in such talk is an over-bloated oaf.

My hustle is legit and I pay taxes. But I hate criminal activities.

The typical Igbo is a lazy criminal with no intellectual depth and business savviness who depends on illegal and criminal enterprise, and chaos to thrive.

Why can't yeeboos thrive in Houston, an area they dominate? Majority of the business there are owned by Yorubas. Yeeboos only thrive in crime and illegal businesses.

Work hard and stop looking for quick fixes and stealing other people's sweat while beating your chest everywhere.

Well said. If a visitor is becoming too arrogant to the person that accommodate him, definitely he will be shown his way back to where he's coming from. I don't know how a visitor will be claming too know of another's property. The best thing is to throw them out of Lagos let them go back to their land and develop their place. At the same time I can't blame them is useless PDP that want power by all means I will blame. They are the one giving them too much popularity and they will later regret it.Is it possible for any other tribe to do all this nonsense in their state?Bunch of ingrate.Lagos give you opportunity to be part of their government by appointing you commissioners, hon and other benefits but you can't think to appreciate rather to be ungrateful.Like I used to tell your ibo fellows that yorubas don't like problem but if you put us to the wall you will see hell more than what Oba Akiolu said.In term of everything in the country and around the world we senior you.Education, population, money, international connection etc we are not your mate.If it leads to war honestly speaking you will go down in history.just a little word for you!

Yes, igbos would live in Lagos, but do you think it would be like before?

Virtually everyone has castigated him for his statement, myself inclusive, and you guys over flogging the issue is responsible for the feud. Some Igbos are expanding the insult from the king to his tribe or one political party. The man talked for himself, not anyone or group.

Finally, no one is indispensable.
That is the point you are missing.
As an Oba he is a king and and a representative of his people.

He is no ordinary citizen and his words and action are weighty and cannot be equated to that of other citizens.

His seat is traditional and thus representative of his tribe or clan. That is why there is an outcry in the first place. If his words were said by some political tout on the street or online (worse has been said on nairaland) no one will even notice.

AFONJA was a Yoruba man, and a General in the Oyo Army. He was made the Commanding Officer of Ilorin Outpost. I wonder if this write up was done by anyone living abroad, orr a proffessional body as it claimed. It is only a ranting of a misguided and semi=literate person.
The bottom line is that the igbo have come into lagos to stay and it may be very difficult for the yorubas to brand them foreigners.Maybe this is where the break up of nigeria will start.I can assure the yoruba nation that the igbos can survive anything thrown at them. This will never be like the last war.Everybody should beware. There are many ethnic groups in lagos but the igbos are prominent because of the level of their contribution to the development of the state.I know the oba spoke the minds of most yoruba, but he did not speak like an oba.We saw Oba Oyekan. He even gave titles to some igbo.He was really a father. This one is yet to convince people of his royalty. In conduct and even in speech.
The igbo nation does not actually recognise the so called eze ndigbos back home,so they are not the issue here. The Oba spoke to all.In a few hours the election result will come out we shall know if there is an igboman contesting for governor. In igboland kings dont reign supreme. We respect them only.If you people can reduce your hatred for the igbo.there will be more unity. It is our hard work that reigns supreme.

I can't believe this country! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_minority_British_politicians

I live in Lagos. I am Igbo. I am Nigerian. For now I am from Lagos. I have a right to vote and be voted for. The only thing that can stop me is me and getting enough votes. Not hate. Not a sense of ethnic statehood. Not the Oba. Not the governor. Not the president. The Nigerian constitution supersedes any regional and ethnic identities. Historically, the only people than can lay claim to the land in Lagos are the native people of Eko. Every other people are settlers just like me, and possess the right to settle because of our collective Nigerian citizenship. This how it is.

All this tribalism has to stop. Every individual should be treated without any negative stereotype . The tragedy is the greatest tribalists are often well learned showing the Nysc is a waste of time. We need to change our mindset. Lagos is like London. It is a melting point of culture and commerce. The true Londoners by origin are probably less than 10percent and that's what's going to happen in Lagos enventually.I'm Yoruba and from Lagos by origin from the durosimi-eti lineage but I dare say it's not just the Yorubas that make lagos great. It's the ibos, ijaws, Hausas, fulanis, urobhos and over 50 other cultures and ethnicities that have representation in Lagos. I am first of all a Nigerian before Yoruba not the other way round . for starters, why on earth should that useless oba threaten igbos in Lagos?? Are we not free to vote whoever we want?? That oba and his supporters are sent to destroy the peace of this country!

What I really wanna understand is what exactly did Igbo ppl do to this man
This inhumane discrimination has been going on for a long time! As long as u are a citizen of Nigeria, u have every right to settle down wherever u want in Nigeria.

we don't discriminate against any tribe in igboland, so why should they? In case they didn't know, igbos also took part in developing Lagos. Igbos are the most hardworking ppl in Nigeria(and I'm not saying that bkus I'm Igbo, its the fvcking truth. just like everybody knows Yorubas like education and parties)

There is a reason it's a democracy. you can't force ppl to vote for somebody....it makes no sense. it was a careless statement by the Oba. it was also unnecessary. Cos if u have no faith in the system why bother voting at all? why not just declare somebody the next governor and leave it there? as for everyone here just insulting each other.....its not cool. The latent hatred is just not necessary. no tribe is superior or inferior. stop insulting each other abeg.
