profmallory: It's already very clear to the leaders of Yoruba lands and Hausa lands; and after these elections I suppose there likely will be hell to pay both on the federal and state levels. The political structure and fabric of this nation will likely be permanently changed in a way that will be colossally disadvantageous to the SE. Already, PDP has been shamefully reduced from an almost invincible national party to a fragmented SE (+ SS) party so to speak. Because it's perhaps reasonable to assume that the other minority tribes still remaining in the PDP will also be alienated from that party in a matter of time. What we might experience in years to come is the SE + SS splitting out of Nigeria. Even if this were to be the case, the ibos will still be the ultimate losers because that is when the pretentious fraternity with the SS will end because then the SS will make it clear they are not ibos or brothers to the ibos but independent tribes of their own. The SS will never allow ibos an inch near their lands to access the oil. Unless it can be magically transported through thin air, the billions-of-nairas-worth of assets ibos possess in the south west will largely be forfeited and re-claimed through Yoruba militias like the OPC. Same thing will happen in the North. If all the ibos returned back to their various indigenous states in the SE, even they wouldn't get along because somehow they always want to dominate themselves and this will lead to crisis. Generally ibos are arrogant and lack moral respect. Age means nothing to them. They only respect money, and so only respect themselves and others according to the money they possess. So ultimately, in a divided Nigeria, ibos have few to gain and plenty to lose. For their sake, I hope Nigeria doesn't divide. The SS has a lot to gain in terms of having 100% resource control if they were to become independent states. And if that were to happen, I can bet my money on it that the first thing they will do is probably drive out the ibos from their lands because the SS will never agree to be part of the so-called Biafra republic the ibos dream of. The SS will choose to remain independent states of their own, so that the ibos won't later label their territories a no man's land and then try to take over it with subtlety. The civil war that happened is long over but the hate still lives on in the minds of the majority of ibos. It's time to drop the hate and forge ahead and embrace other tribes. That's part of the change we want, so we can build a better Nigeria. Nigerians loves the ibos and Nigeria needs the ibos just as much as the ibos needs Nigeria and I think it's time ibos start loving other Nigerians. Because right now all the majority of ibos do is "tolerate" other tribes, especially because they aren't the majority and they are in lands belonging to those other tribes. There's no love. 4 Likes |

From a purist view, Lagos actually belongs to no one. It was formerly the Nigerian capital that harboured all tribes in the country seeking new opportunities, hence why its the most developed state among others and more western states. Its more like the USA who had the native red indians as the indigenes but now they can't claim it belongs to them, it was developed by the jews, old norse and anglo-saxon races. There would be no USA without that because it wouldn't have been has developed as it is today earning the phrase, America,no mans land. Same with lagos, it is reaping the fruits of ethnic intergration. Its quite silly to even call someone a visitor or immigrant in his own civil jurisdiction. Anyone who engages in such talk is an over-bloated oaf. 3 Likes |

theAtheist101:That is the point you are missing. As an Oba he is a king and and a representative of his people. He is no ordinary citizen and his words and action are weighty and cannot be equated to that of other citizens. His seat is traditional and thus representative of his tribe or clan. That is why there is an outcry in the first place. If his words were said by some political tout on the street or online (worse has been said on nairaland) no one will even notice. 2 Likes |

"l am yet to see a man that will keep quiet when his territory is been invaded with impunity. Oba Akinolu, the Oba of Lagos, AFONJA was a Yoruba man, and a General in the Oyo Army. He was made the Commanding Officer of Ilorin Outpost. He was an over ambitious man who wanted to be King at all cost and he knew there was no way he could defeat Alaafin of Oyo Army, so he gathered Fulani settlers under Mallam Alimi together to help fight Alaafin, yes the Fulanis helped him to defeat Alafin's Army but he was never made king. That was how the Yoruba people lost Ilorin a prominent Yoruba town to Fulani Emirate through this treacherous act, probably forever. TODAY, LAGOS IS THE NEW ILORIN. JIMI AGBAJE IS THE NEW AFONJA, WHILE THE IGBOS ARE THE NEW FULANI. Come Saturday, Lagosians should not allow history to repeat itself. Oloju ko ni la oju sile ki talubo o wo. Eko oni baje" 2 Likes |

I wonder if this write up was done by anyone living abroad, orr a proffessional body as it claimed. It is only a ranting of a misguided and semi=literate person. The bottom line is that the igbo have come into lagos to stay and it may be very difficult for the yorubas to brand them foreigners.Maybe this is where the break up of nigeria will start.I can assure the yoruba nation that the igbos can survive anything thrown at them. This will never be like the last war.Everybody should beware. There are many ethnic groups in lagos but the igbos are prominent because of the level of their contribution to the development of the state.I know the oba spoke the minds of most yoruba, but he did not speak like an oba.We saw Oba Oyekan. He even gave titles to some igbo.He was really a father. This one is yet to convince people of his royalty. In conduct and even in speech. The igbo nation does not actually recognise the so called eze ndigbos back home,so they are not the issue here. The Oba spoke to all.In a few hours the election result will come out we shall know if there is an igboman contesting for governor. In igboland kings dont reign supreme. We respect them only.If you people can reduce your hatred for the igbo.there will be more unity. It is our hard work that reigns supreme. 2 Likes |

I can't believe this country! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ethnic_minority_British_politicians I live in Lagos. I am Igbo. I am Nigerian. For now I am from Lagos. I have a right to vote and be voted for. The only thing that can stop me is me and getting enough votes. Not hate. Not a sense of ethnic statehood. Not the Oba. Not the governor. Not the president. The Nigerian constitution supersedes any regional and ethnic identities. Historically, the only people than can lay claim to the land in Lagos are the native people of Eko. Every other people are settlers just like me, and possess the right to settle because of our collective Nigerian citizenship. This how it is. 2 Likes |

wow....so much hatred. let's not carry the tribalistic mentality of our older generation. it doesn't help. There is a reason it's a democracy. you can't force ppl to vote for somebody....it makes no sense. it was a careless statement by the Oba. it was also unnecessary. Cos if u have no faith in the system why bother voting at all? why not just declare somebody the next governor and leave it there? as for everyone here just insulting each other.....its not cool. The latent hatred is just not necessary. no tribe is superior or inferior. stop insulting each other abeg. |

NOTICE !!!!!NOTICE !!!!!NOTICE !!!!! Some people are quick to get into ethnic squabbles and hate tribal wars but when a white man calls you monkey, you all cry foul. All self righteous tribal e-warriors here that goes into tribal tirades whether igbo, hausa or yoruba are just IQ deficient and mentally retarded people. That's the main reason Africans can't move forward to make landmarks in life and are laughed at home and abroad, you all think you are superior to the next person, unwarranted competition, myopic thinking.... Igbo is greedy, yoruba is dirty, hausa is retarded... My God those are stoopid stereotypes. You guys should learn especially from the Americans, there are lots of races there including Nigerians but they are all equal as long as they are citizens. Only people with insecurities and low self esteem engages in tribal hate speeches and discussions. 3 Likes 1 Share |
