Hello House, just to provide update on our expected 3,000 layers.
Again we couldn't get it done today. The challenge has been the availability of moving crates. Now we have scured some crates on rent and should effect the movements latest by Friday morning.
My concern really is that the birds should be moved before they are 17weeks old. Some literature I read states that it's not good for layers to be moved after they are 17weeks. This is because this is a critical period when the birds attain sexual maturity and stree could interfere with this natural process.

My neighbour has a poultry in his village.
During the course of our discussions this evening, he said chicks from agrited (not sure of the spelling ) does better than chicks from zartech and chi. He also said their docs have more males.
Who else has tried this company?

kevin96. mercylicious. What I heard was that Agrited Broiler DOC grow very fast. However, I've never heard any testimony as to how well the Pullet DOC perform. Meanwhile, why not check the company's website for possible contacts? In the interim, I got this number; 08035268581 (Kayode). He is an agent.

Accordingeto the Vaccination Schedule of Marks farm which you can deploy in ur case. you can give
1. ND+IB Oil. which is not as expensive.
2. You can give Komorov.
or you Simple give them ND+ IB in water.

omejeo. What is i/o vaccine in first place? i/o simply means intra-occular i.e a vaccine you apply through the eye. That means there is no vaccine by the name you just gave. Having said that, I'll assume you are talking about a vaccine for some strains of ND. If I'm correct, I'll advise that you keep your money. Giving LIFE vaccines,(apart from Mareks) to DOCs are more often counter-productive as they negatively impact on the natural immunity obtained from the mother-hen. My 10 kobo.

We arranged for 34 units of locally fabricated cages. These are 96-bird capacity cages. Our "fabricator did a good job (in my assessment) and was through in 3 weeks 2 days.
I love the cages. please let me have the number of this fabricator.

Hi David, pls I am a potential farmer and I need tips from you. Kindly brief me on the steps to take before and when the pullets arrive. Also how many bags of feed are 1500 birds supposed to consume in a day? And how do you go about brooding? Tnx
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by davidzfarm18(m): 1:48pm On Apr 23, 2015
For Feed Intake. it depends on the age, weather and other factors. Pls Google Isa Brown to get the weekly feed intake.
Brooding involves keeping the birds warm at a certain temperature. You can use Charcoal for the brooding, but its difficult to regulate. you'll needs to ensure whatever means u use for keeping them warm did not bring smoke as the smoke will make them susceptible to CRD.
You may need to give them mild antibiotics. you can consult the hatchery supplying you the birds for specifics.
On arrival, add Glucose to the water in addition to the antibiotics and vitamins.
Goodluck.

Please for knowledge sake
@farmtech... You said not to treat sick birds with live vaccines....what is a live vaccine and what other type of vaccine exists in order to treat a sick bird with
..
Live vaccine contains living virus. Eg include lasota, gumboro, ib vaccines etc. There are killed vaccines that are given by injection. U treat sick birds by giving them the correct antibiotics, but I've come across a site that recommend lasota and injection of komarov as treatment for serious newcastle disease. Komarov is a newcastle vaccine given by injection. I've not confirm this yet oo.

Was doin a little reading on the recommended drug and I saw this on Wikipedia...Enrofloxacin was banned(in USA I guess) for poultry use in 2005. [ 6 ]Baytril should not be used in rapidly growing animals (for example dogs under 12 months - 18 months in large breeds, or kittens under 8 weeks) as it causes abnormalities in the development of articular cartilage...

Dunno if anyone has seen this
..
Some drugs are banned in the US but not in nigeria. Also some drugs are banned in Europe but US farmers are still using them. So it differs from country to country. The reason why they ban some drugs is due to the issue of antibiotic resistance occuring in humans.

Bro: follow the following schedules, and your birds will be good God's willing;

Give them keproceryl (or a good antibiotic) and any good multivitamins from the da of reception.

Give them anti CRD 2x a week till u dispose them.

Administer first gomboro on day 10
Administer first lasota on day 15
Administer 2nd gomboro on day 21
Administer 2nd lasota on dat 30

Note: give them multivitamin 2ruout except on the day(s) you are administering vaccine.
