Ibo community has always have female deities , like ancient Greece and Rome. It doesn't change the fact that ibo cimmunities are ran by men. women do not partake in age grade meetings or umunna gatherings where serious decisions are taken. neither are they part of the igwe's council. you can point me to an ibo community that has a different socio-economic settings
Uhmm no. The fact that you even write Ibo instead of Igbo make me know you really do not understand you have not briefed yourself on precolonial Igbo culture.
The Igbo ran a dual sex political system.
The women headed by their chosen female leader attended to women affairs, and the men headed by their chosen male leader attended to male affairs.
Both ran their organizations independently of each other but could not carry out intricate and serious decisions like war without consulting the other.
The same way a woman could not attend a male meeting is the same way a man could not attend female meetings and his jurisdiction stops at the doorpost of his umunna meeting. Women used boycotts when their demands were not met and recalcitrant husband were always brought to book. The fast and pray entity (which we encourage women only to do I have to add) we operate now when a man misbehaves is as a result of Christianity introduced by the British.
It is the British who destroyed this political system and elevated only the male political structures because they were bounded by their own Victorian prejudices and the men ran along with it.

I do not have double standard as i believe the man is the head of the home and his wife has certain rights as well and obligations as well.

where i differ is how a woman responds to a tough domestic situations with her husband. her response not her REACTION is all the difference that tells the virtue or foolishness of the wife.

if she reacts like you often do here; using strongly worded and crass insults on her husband , she will not only lose whatever power and influence she has with the husband , she will also lose her sense of true feminine power.

women (wives) should respond with grace, wisdom and meekness and the sweet but feminine charm that men have falling for since the event of time.

and such response are far harder to acquire than the cheap display of anger and curse words you are setting as an example.

SEE: men will always be men. nothing can change that. We shall fight wars, take risk, embark on dangerouse adventures, drive aggressively; run the rat race for power, glory and ego. TESTOSTERONE saw to these.

Today's women use their degrees and diplomas to address the issues of men, forgeting the wisdom of our mothers who never had much education but enjoyed the respect and dignity of our fathers.

IN SUMMARY: TODAY'S WOMEN LIKE YOU EQUIRED EDUCATION BUT LOST WISDOM IN THE PROCESS.
You truly have a distorted understanding of male headship in marriage. Pls go on and support brutalization of women in the name of testing and marriage. You are not just inferring, you simply take everything out of context. No other words for you.
To every other women out there:just in case you marry a psychopath who believes in submission under every circumstance. Pls don't even react, keep submitting till he crushes you!

ibo is often anglosized for igbo. and they are used interchangeably. but that is another topic.

you say ibo society is ran by a dual sex system?

and yet ibo females do not inherit there fathers' landed property or estate. a woman who does not give birth to a male child often "marries"another woman to do so for her.

The various age grades and heads of familes have the powers to decide generally for the progress of the entire community.

women groups only saw to women affairs. they never venture outside in making laws or deciding the fate of the community.

matter of fact, there are certain food ibo women are forbidden to eat traditionally like snail in some communities in Enugu state.

also there are certain masquerades not allowed to be seen by women.

you can furnish citations here which supports that any african society is run by a dual sex system before europeans came.

Besides,i don't think you are Igbo or even have an understanding of the igbo culture. I don't know where you and other men get the erroneous belief that Igbo culture promotes subjugation of women in the society. Prior to colonialism, igbo culture employed a relationship in which both genders were symmetrically on a plane, each involved in running the community. In the past, women exerted tremendous influences over communal politics.
Colonialism and European civilization has twisted a lot of things in Africa.

I was in a meeting yesterday and learnt that Igbo women had a 'hole' (room), where they were taken into and flogged if they dare speak when not spoken to. embarassed

Ibo and Igbo are not interchangable in 2015. You have a problem accepting corrections from a woman? Single ladies are in trouble! Igbo is too large for you to generalize igbo culture. There are people that lease their property to their sons and others give their properties to their Female children. It is still happening today!
You are basing your history on post colonial igbo culture.
There are male and female 'cult',both genders respect their boundaries.
Do you know the things men are not allowed to do in my place? Do you know what they have been prohibited from doing? See it's a two way thing.

Am disappointed that men in the 21st centuru still believe that women should react like a cat in the presense of a dangerous husband. Refrain from taking things out of context! The subject at hand is about women that swallow manipulation and men that believe women are worth a penny and should be forced into submission.
That is meant for the forcefully intimidating oppressive husband,if you continue to situate my comments out of context,na your palaver be dat!

Wait o! Are you saying a man can call a woman a red cun-t, tabula raza,a child and an empty vessel. And a woman can not use 'foolish' in the same breath? Does a man have the monopoly of insults?
Omg!

I am man enough to take correction when i am presented with facts devoid of emotions. what i am aversed to is argument for its own sake.

go open all the online-dictionary updated to 2015 and see what their definition of the word "ibo" means. It is a variant form of Igbo no more,no less. just like the anglosized spelling of your towns: Awka, Onitsha, Enugu for "ENUGWU" etc.

and please, I dare you, any Ibo lady who acquired her father's land did so statutorily never by tradition. She will need the EUROPEAN influenced court to introduce the doctrine of no descrimination to any one based on sex, birth circumstances etc.

Ibo culture varies, but when it comes to women and inheritance, they all sing the same song with
a resounding chorus.

Haha! Am telling you that certain Igbo communities give female children their father's property. You can ask questions,it is still in practice.
Ibo was a variant form because non Igbo pronounced it as ''ibo''
True igbo people have never called themselves ibos. White men pronounced it as ibo because they had no /gb/ alphabet in their phonetics.
Awka,Enugu still sound like Oka and Enugwu when you pronounce it. But ibo and Igbo don't have the same pronounciation and we are not ibo. Take corrections, pls!

The word Ibo is still widely used to in Nigeria and around the world by native and none native speakers and when ever it is used it is a variant form of IGBO.

That is an inappropriate pronouciation and spelling of Igbo. It is an insult to call an igbo person 'ibo'. Same thing with calling a Hausa person Awusa.
Ibo is not in use officially or otherwise. Any person that uses ibo is ignorant of facts.
Ibo is not a modern version of Igbo, biko! Europeans were saying ibo cos they had no knowlegde of Igbo alphabeths and phonetics. What would you adopt? What Europeans say or how natives define themselves. You are just so ignorant!
Stop quoting me if you can't take a simple correction.

what hypocrisy guided by stark buffoonery!!! the palace of your Obi of Onitsha have a completely different spelling.

the town hall in the village square in Enugu still has the incription Enugwu. what insults are you talking about?

a few number of your town are written in completly different mode of pronouncuation, all to the white man's influence.

Hausa have no other derivatives or form. THERE IS NO WORD AS AWUSA in english or anywhere.

you cannot place HAUSA and AWUSA as you would IBGO and IBO. Other tribes in nigeria that have derivatives : IJAW and EZON (?)

It may have its origin from the white man's phonetical limitations but like your towns and city they have become formalised, and official in usuage and acceptability.

you have not posted a single source or link to support any of your claims yet.

Foolish troll!
What exactly are you trying to prove? Are you trying to teach me about my own history or culture?
Ibo is not used by anybody but stark illiterates like you. Ibo is not a variant of igbo, this i have explained its history and origin.
No sane igbo person use ibo in speech or in writing. Your insults are more like teenage rantings, foolish man!
Ibo is not a derivative of Igbo. There is no ibo man or ibo people in Nigeria. You opened a link that gave you a 19th century definition of ibo. Why don't you make your research and see that ibo is very improper.

Nonesense troll! There is no difference between how you pronounce oka/enugwu and awka/enugu. These towns cannot be compared with your ibo analogy. These towns were renamed by Europeans but Ibo was used to describe the Igbo people in the past with no awareness of igbo language
Historically,Europeans have called Igbos all sorts of names, from HEEBO TO EBOE TO EBOO TO IBO. This is because they had no knowledge of the correct pronouciation of Igbo. Igbo could have been called HEBREWS,if not for quick intevention by people that started studying igbo language. At this point Ibo was used in historical text before they realised that they were at fault and decided to respect igbo language by recognising the /gb/ alphabet.
Igbo is the only official name for igbo people. So are you going to call igbo people EBOES because it was historically used for them. You are such a slowpoke. Imagine trying to teach me about igbo! Lord!

Those who go the extreme must be sure of themselves and what they are doing. @Ngokafor, there are people who stretch farther than the rest. Some women love being unconditionally obedient and respectful to men. Thatz their nature. They can never abuse, workout on or spit at som1, no matter the provocation. They have tongues that only speak of peace and apologies. Thier joy is in caring for all and thier pride is in mediation aided by feminine powers. I know of many of such ladies who would quietly walk away in the face of confrontation, even when they were innocent and should atleast exchange a few invectives with the antagonist to register thier uprightness .

SEE WORD! kiss kiss kiss

I needed that type and if I went the extreme distance to get it, itz all for my good and that of my kids and even my wife.
Dont do like me.
My wife had her own way of appraising me: If am obedient and respectful and feminine to the core, what could be my longterm benefit and that of my kids from this man. Is there any reason to shore up with him? He is more than me in wisdom, age, wealth and everything. Am extremely proud of him and so much inlove. Should I let my longborne pride rub me of his love and care. I am a woman, I must get what I want not by might...
Just this evening, I was in the tennis court when my wife called that she took her suv to the carwash and I should take that route on my way back from the club so she can join me home. When I got there I met an old freind long lost sipping some beverage at a table in the adjoining pavilion. We three sat there and had a chat for about two hours. All the while, my concentration was on my wife and my wife's on me and we held eachother to serries of our usuall ribcracking conversation. As we all made to depart the place, The guy told me to my wife's hearing "man, I see this kind of relationship mostly in movies. This is more than a marriage. This for sure is somthingelse." My wife just smile at him. I smiled too at him. We hear that always from all sorts of folks! Our minds were just eager to be let alone asap so we can continue chating and laffing and my wife would have more space to continue forming baby and cuddling in my arms an on my shoulder. My wife is a rare breed that cannot survive a day without talking to me or putting her head on my shoulder or holding my hand. If u like shove her away, she will spontaneously come bak to the spot immediately thereafter, like a little girl to her mother! She is incapable of habouring malice in her heart for the sun to return and meet. Only God can explain her ways for mortals to understand. U do not know what I found. I didnt have a penny to her knowledge when I was courting her. I choosed to live in a room apartment that had no lavatory inside. We took our bath in a tapolin enclosure with other tenants. it was my choice! I dont toy with my wife. Anytime I spoke and got angry and keep malice when we were dating, She would cry and beg till I change my mind. She would sit one place and sober up till u become the one weeping and begging her to cheer up. And as soon as u say that, u see her remarkably pretty face lighting up like the spring pix of a wellpainted artwork!
Am not saying men should beat thier wives. Am not saying women should be stubborn and careless to macho plight. Am advicing all to make thier beds well as they chose- while there is time, and pray for luck and chance ever after.
At the bolded: There are different types of men just like there are different types of women!
To start to copy and 'form' feminazi just because you think it is in vogue, is the undoing of most women!

BTW: Please print this post and show it to your wifey!
Tell her it is a request from one faceless "Lastpage"!
I like men who appreciate their wife and l want to encourage them to do it in her presence and let her know she is very much appreciated.
Such women deserve all the good things of life... because THEY EARNED IT, NOT THROUGH "GRA-GRA" BUT THROUGH UNFLINCHING LOYALTY AND RESPECT OF THEIR HUBBY. undecided

Some of us men, are very lucky in life, our "wifey" are "God-Sent"!
I see a lot of frustrated women around and l wonder, "why cant they just pipe-down and see/experience what the "love of a man" can do for them in this life, this "one life"?

Like that adage says, "What you (most women) are struggling to look for in as far as Sokoto State,...... is right there in the pocket of your Sokoto (Trouser), if you know how to look for it. wink wink

The reason why we have so many failed marriages is because we have more sick people than normal, healthy and mentally stable people. Having said that, this is what I think of @ nairalife and co:

1. Unaccountable: Those women that could not give you the other cheek are bad people- it couldn't have been your fault.

2. Too proud: Women should not desire good partners

3. Hypocrite: You can give but cannot take poo.

4. Morally bankrupt: Who can put up with

I may be wrong though. But under normal circumstance, just being good should be enough to keep a family together.
