It's not easy at all. I'm only in my first year at uni but I'm making sure I leave no stone unturned and I'm grabbing all possible opportunities to make myself employable and increase my value in the job market. Immediately I stared university, I signed up for an employability award programme designed by my university, I keep my grades sky high, attend personal improvement/effective communication classes, CV writing seminars, networking events etc.

I also applied to be a student mentor for next year's incoming students and I'll be working throughout the holidays so I can at least have some work experience. Also taking one year off to work before my final year. That way, when I graduate, I'll hit the ground running by God's grace.

[color=#006600][/color]this is one major disadvantage of isolation during college days,one tin i came 2 observe is dat its d so called genius back den in skuls dat r most jobless now...in skul try as much as possible 2 associate with ppl,be popular with a gud name,join associations,clubs,societies,church group coz u never knw wot d future holds even dat dullard u descriminated back den or d cultist u saw as a nuisance mite be well conected 2 be in a better position 2 help......back den as an engineering student i got d rite advice n i knw one way 2 suceed easily was politics n i started wit skul politics,up till date,i even wen as far as becomin an A**men jst 2 b popular n today i'm enjoyin it,i'm well fufilled n i hardly lack coz i ve got friends in all works of life.....so 2 d undergraduates u bera learn.....

Sometimes,I even regret going to sch when I see my mate am suppose to learn a trade with living fine.My heavenly father,deliver my soul.

You have the mindset of all you need. That's good. Just do what you have to do well and you'll be okay. And, make sure you have fun in school too; coz real life aint sexy at all after graduatio.

Unibadan 2013,FUNAAB 2015. This year 2015 Unilorin,only God knows. It's so frustrating meeting the cut off mark and still your name won't come out in the Admission list. Those 3yrs,i have been able to achieve something,i learnt a handiwork(plumber). I will be through by the end of this year

I believe a big part of getting a job is actually being employable. Employers need to know what makes you special among a sea of other candidates and you need to prove your worth to them. Previous experience is an example of something that can help to put your foot in the door; having a first class degree is another example.

To put it simply, your CV should answer the question, "why should we employ you?".

Although I'm still in first year and don't have any major qualifications, I'm taking advantage of all the student jobs available. I've represented Nigeria in an international competition, just finished working as a student ambassador, about to begin working as a STEM ambassador (I study Computer Science). At the very least I can say my CV isn't blank.

In 3 yrs, if you had started learning how to code you'll be better off...

Feeling alone and unhappy. Avoiding people. The list is endless. The one I hate most is some people feel u are just being lazy. The idiots that say go and learn something as if they will give u money to go and learn. Some will say go and do masters, go and start buying and selling. As if they will give u money. Some will say u are choosy. Another will say start small. Start what small? The major problem is not laziness but background of job seekers. Job seekers who were hustlers in school, people who their parents added no value in their lives, who struggled in school already have that tenacity and will to do any kind of jobs. In Unilag I new girls who fix nails, do hair and the ones that carry aristos for a living. Had no help from family. The ones that carry aristos are d ones doing so well now and travel round the world and get married to one mugu. The ones doing handwork continue after school. While the rest, it's either their parents help them or they just sit and wait hoping for a breakthrough. You cannot compare such people who have been spoon fed by their parents which is actually the right thing to do, to start doing all sorts of menial jobs. We have all forgotten the very basis of going to school. The country wants to turn everybody to a daylight business woman or man. All my friends be make up artist, sell clothes and bags, perfumes, caterers and u say I should also do that and market to this same friends. Not everybody is wired to do business. Not everybody is wired to learn a handwork. Not everybody is meant to work in an office. frustration should not be the basis of going into anything. I have never seen anybody do well in something they have no love for......

Realistically speaking... not everyone can put it the way you just did.

If I know what lies after death, I would have committed suicide. I sweated before obtaining my B.Tech. by doing menial jobs. Now after NYSC, I can't find a meaningful job. I'm currently teaching 7 subjects in a secondary sch earning 10k per month. I live with a relative and feed with that meagre salary. The major problem now is that I always fall sick. I have medical history of typhoid but after taking powerful antibiotics that doctors often recomend for me, there is still no improvement. I've taken HIV test many times with negative results. From my observation as a biotechnology student, what ravages my immune system might be chronic imflamatory bowel disease and thyrotoxicosis(confirmed in a test but can't pursue treatment). Dt IBD may require surgery. I summarily dwell on herbs. I can no longer try menial jobs that can fetch me quick money in those sch days due the weakness of my body. My friends that learnt trade or workmanship are making jest of me cos they are making it big. There is nothing you can tell me about religion that won't fall on deaf ears. Because I know the scriptures up and down. I even pastored a Redeemed Church branch during my NYSC days.

I code in java, php/mysql, python and very little C++. It's just basic fundamental stuff though; the biggest project I've worked on was a fully functional shopping site from scratch so I can't say I've done that much (compared to what others are doing). I'm also planning to use my vacation to throroughly study OOP and build more advanced java projects, that way second year is going to be smooth sailing.

You're not drinking clean water..

The herbs are damaging your organs..

You're cooking food with at least satchet water

You go swimming often..

Your environment is not healthy

Your body does not react well to the type of food you eat..

i didn't sit at home during those 3yrs. I learnt a handiwork(plumber) which i know will be helpful in future. I would soon be through. I pray Unilorin goes through this yr,if its d other way. I might have to settle down for ICAN.

I was just lucky my parents bought me a computer when I was very young, even though I asked for a bicycle. We really need to get young children interested in technology, there's a lot to gain from it.

May God intervene in the country's present situation where the govt borrows to pay salaries yet the richest black man is from here. To all hoping for a change of status as it concerns career, It is my prayer that everyone's wish be met. Been there, know how it feels but surely there is an end. Keep the spirit up.

In a bid to cut cost of running the sch, the owner is even rejecting job applications. I found another teaching job dt pays 20k in d nearest city, but I didnt take it due to consideration of wia to stay and d cost of living. Those ministry of education supervisors are rogues; they will let you be if you giv them what they want.
