@Grownaira: Thanks a million.
By LA. I believe you mean Laxota.
E S T contains sulphur and pple say it's not good for laying birds.
Opinion welcomed pls

U are welcome boss. LA injection isn't lasota ooo. It's Long Active(or Acting) Anti-Biotic. It boosts the imune system of birds.

As for EST, yes it contains a form of inpure sulphur which doesn't affect laying birds.

However, to be on the safer side, you can use "Tylosine". I recommend that of Kepro.

AkayTopsy: I'm having similar issue with my birds (Respiratory) No Lab in abuja. I have tried Conflox, tylodox, Anitilan, Eucament Plus,Ciprovet. Pls what drug solved the problem for you.

I just went through my records now; the Respiratory problem lasted for like 10days we started treatment with Gentadox then Tyldox for 3days before switching to Floricol for the last 5days. In addition to all d antibiotics was IntrovitA + Stresroak.

We also had d same problem recently with both the Layers and broilers. And they were both placed on E.S.T Mix (based on Grownaira's old post. the layers seem to have overcome the respiratory problem but the broilers are still sneezing. My plan is to allow them take vitamins for 2-3days then try another antibiotic drug.
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by AkayTopsy: 12:20pm On May 19, 2015
@davidsfarm. I also agree with grownaira on the issue of sulphur and egg production. Using E.S.T Mix, there was no significant drop in our production level.

Akaytopsy. I will mix the E.S.T when next I'm milling. presently have feed that will last till month end. Pls answer the question on the cost per bag.
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by omotititi: 1:04pm On May 19, 2015
A move on how we can reduce cost of feeding for laying birds will tremendously help us all. Please let someone answer Davidzfarm question on cost of feed per bag. In Benin,it cost me about 1900 to compound my layers mash. I am still of the opinion that it can be less than this for us to be profitable as the price of eggs is still hoving between N550 and N650 per crates.

For those of us picking birds(broilers) from zartech farms, i think what we should watch out for is CRD. And the only way you can do tackle this CRD issue , is adhere to their Medication program.
I happen to have one of their program ...This program was given to me by Ziad (He was incharge of the benin Branch) But i think he has been replaced.

Day 1-5 ......Tylosin +vitamin+Enrofloxacin
Day 7-11.....Furaltadone(Dose- 1gram to 5liter)
Day 21-23...Tylosin +Vitamin+Enrofloxacin or Ciprofoxacin
And please no feed for the broilers for the first 3 hours, only water and drugs.

I have been using this program alongside the program my vet gave to me, that one has the vaccination schedule on it and CRD has been a thing of the past in my broilers.
And for those guys who pick birds from other hacteries, i think u can still use dis as a guide. Sometimes when i pick birds from other hacteries, what i do is very simple.....I use my normal program, but at day 6 to 9 i use tylosin and enrofloxacin for them, them after 2weeks i repeat same treatment again....And CRD will never come back, as long as you dont overcrowd them or dent them proper ventilation....

What do you do when you discover that your point of lay birds have CRD? most of the time it leads to early lay mortality and it is very difficult to treat. which kind of medication can help you through this phase as I have used tylosin based drug, enrofloxacin and the situation just persist.

Try to do antibiotic sensitivity test. Tylodox or anitylodox worked for me then.

@Akaytopsy, pls what has been your experience with the feedmills? wen u go to the feed mills, do u watch over your feed while the milling is ongoing; cos iv bin told by a couple farmers that those guys at the feedmill might steal from the components before processing or alter the feeds by taking off some of the more expensive components (eg soyabean) and replacing them with cheaper components (eg wheat offal or dusa), as such still achieving 1 ton but then compromising quality (by reducing the %tage of crude protein in this example above) to the detriment of the birds. I would be grateful if I can share from the experience of all esteemed house members who mill their feeds.

I'm a living witness of the business. my friend who's farm is having about 17000 birds today we both started by getting a loan from a micro finance bank using our certificate as collateral we've both completed our dues and now I'm sure he is also counting in millions like me because his last car is an SUV
the business is really good

@Akaytopsy, thanks for been very supportive. Please what has been the percentage production since you have been using this feed formulae you stated above? Is KLC5 readily available all year round and can on get it to buy in Benin City? Please expatiate.
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by AkayTopsy: 12:56pm On May 20, 2015
@eggxel Theft/sharp practice @feedmill is surely inevitable if you are absent during the milling. but I always make sure either me or 1 of my staff is present to tie the bags as they load the feed. But still at that my bro this guys can still leave few Kgs spilled around from several customers, gather them at intervals and sell it to walk-in petty/backyard farmers.

@omotiti I've always been a broiler farmer all along but I was introduced to Koudjia Broiler Concentrate (KBC) and the result was and it's still great. So this set of Layers is a pilot project to enable me learn about egg production. I started them with KBC then switched to KLC from 6wks. @34wks the egg production level is currently 80-3%. This is the highest pdtn level so far, hopefully they are yet to hit the pick pdtn level.

I understand they have a SalesRep in Asaba serving the benin axis.

when did you buy your Obasanjo DOC? Obasanjo DOC is one of the best i've seen so far. They are very strong and healthy.

besides, with quality feed and good management, you should be able to get a minimum of 1.8kg and above in 6 weeks.

It has been a while. I want to try them again though. Thank you.

You can , but the disadvantages outweigh the advantage
1. you'll be forced to move out by ur neighbors sooner than expected because of odours from the pen.
2. Noise from car hoot, dogs barking affects laying birds.
3. diseases are transfered easily.
4. You can't use battery cage in such area but deep litters with it's numerous disadvantages.
@ the bolded, pls educate me better. why can't he use battery cage in a land like that? I have seen the pic of the site

The Odour from Battery cage will make the neighbour get a court injunction restraining him from operating leading to loss of investment.
