May God see me through this, because my rent is expiring this June ending...and I don't intend renewing because the rent amount will go a long way in the project.

Please my Ogas @ the top, kindly lend me your experience as usual so I can cut cost and pull this through. Thumbs Up for you all.

How deep is your foundation? Is this going to be a raft foundation of some sort...
Is this line gonna be straight, I don't see any pegging and ropes for demarcations etc.

Permit me to respond sir. I don't think he'd be needing raft foundation as it will be an overkill. My reason is that this is upland and not prone to flood like most parts of lagos. Thus the ground is very solid ground.
I think the diggers are using their eyes to gauge it and as such I doubt it'll be straight. The OP is in a better position to answer all ur question though.

The Site Engineer says the foundation level is ok for an upland.

What came to mind immediately I saw the plan was captured in ihebrooke's post.
Natural lighting and ventilation are key in making a space functional... you should ideally swap the positions of the rooms and bathrooms.
All the best.

I surely agreed with you that raft foundation will be overkill... I was just asking because of the shallow depth of the foundation..
Thanks.

@op please how much did you spend for excavation and what is the cost of 9inch and 6inch of block in nigeria. Please I like to know the cost of a trip of sand and gravel as well. Thanks

Excavation = N30,000
9" Blocks = N135
6" Blocks = N120
Trip of sand = N15,000
Trip of gravel = N35,000. This is the quote the site Engineer got for me.

Please note that this is not fixed, as it depends on location and your bargaining power also...

DPC means damp proof course, which means it helps in preventing dampness to the flooring. it also holds the foundation(substructure) together and prevents the breakage the floor as the house ages or as a result of pounding food in the kitchen. if you can afford it pls do it but if you're short of cash, then forget it. my current home don't have it and I'm not missing it that much
Re: My 3 Bedroom Bungalow Project by imoci(m): 4:31pm On Jun 04, 2015
Thank you very much for this explanation.
the cost of foundation filling is not small at all.
am sure if i want to do the DPC,i will spent more than 200k on filling alone.
if not i would have love to DO it.

u can reduce cost by digging ur soakaway pit now and using the sand from it to fill the most of d foundation, if you have a demolished building around, let the labourers pack the broken blocks in.barrows to fill d foundation. as we are now approaching d rainy season in d north, you can save a lot of money for water by fetching water from d open soakaway pit if it does not endanger anybody to leave it open.
