We must also be patient with Obiano as He fulfill his promises on dualization of Anambra-State Major Roads!.Single-Lane roads have been a ''disaster'' in Anambra-State!. Although it started a long time ago by previous regimes in Anambra-State which continued during Peter Obi's regime!

How many of these roads have our previous governement able to dualized since we have refused to build a stadium?

These notions of yours were the type that kept Anambrarians to believe they don't need an Airport! Today 80% of passenger traffic on the Asaba Airport are enroute Anambra if not for the recent upgrade of th Enugu Airport to international status the effect of the Asaba Airport will be highly significant on the Enugu Airport.

Take note that Asaba Stadium along Nebisi road is almost 90% completed should Ifeanyi Uba fail to complete the Gabros stadium next season Asaba will definately be the Home of a club side based in Anambra!!!! If that alone is nothing to worry about then I am done with this argument!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If Obiano does not want to build an international airport in Anambra, he should consult with Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state to upgrade Asaba into an international airport. Now that we have Okowa in Delta, it should be easy.
We need two or three international airports in Igboland. cool
If we don't get them, our people will keep trooping out, taking with them huge economic potentials and denying Igboland of true development.
The time is now!

The dual-carriageway road leading to the ongoing Anambra International Cargo Airport is already under construction by CCC. The airport will be wired to the Orient Refinery for the disposing of ATK for international flights that will be landing there to make purchases.

Jubilation as Obiano Begins Work on Umueri Airport Road

There was joy on the faces of the rural folks as the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, finally took the first major step in fulfilling his promise of building a cargo airport in Anambra State by flagging off the four-lane road that will lead to the proposed airport in Umeri, in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Obiano who stormed the venue for the inauguration along Aguleri-Otuocha-Umueri expressway, with the members of his cabinet and APGA chieftains on Monday, declared that in beginning construction work on the proposed road, his administration was symbolically opening up the entire area for accelerated development.

The governor expressed optimism that when all the roads that are under construction in Anambra East and West are fully completed, there would be greater access to the agrarian treasures of the state and more opportunities would be opened therefrom.

According to him, no fewer than 300 people are expected to be employed during the construction of the Umueri Airport Road alone.

The governor also used the opportunity to announce that Anambra State government had signed on a South African gas exploration company known as Lubcon to work on its newly approved ANWell 1, the state’s first gas well that has been proven to hold a large deposit of gas.

According to him, the South African firm will be “producing 100 megawatts of electricity from the gas that will be mined from that well. With this volume of electricity, the power supply needs of this zone and beyond will be met. This will also attract investors from other places who may want to set up their operations here and take advantage of the steady power supply,” he explained.

The governor also explained that his administration was expediting action on all uncompleted roads in the zone to ensure an effective linkup between the various communities. “When our work is fully done, there will be a lot of progress and prosperity, a lot of activities that will generate income and a lot of jobs for our people. So, when we finish, this part of the state and Anambra State as a whole will witness a significant economic improvement,” he enthused pointing out that his administration had outlined several programmes that would help stimulate domestic growth in the state.

According to him: “We have commenced special training in oil and gas and in agriculture in the Federal Polytechnic, Oko and Anambra State University, Igbariam respectively, to prepare our people to take full advantage of the expected employment opportunities in the emerging industries.

“ We have commenced these trainings because when these investors come, they will need trained hands to work with them. Because that an industry is located in a particular place does not mean that every indigene would be automatically qualified to work in it.”

According to him, the state government is “anticipating the demand for properly trained indigenes that will take over the industries in the future. So, register through your local governments so that you will make yourself employable in the future. These trainings are offered free of charge to willing participants. We are encouraging our sons and daughters to read petroleum engineering because ultimately, they will be the ones to take over these investments when the expatriates are gone.”

The governor also used the opportunity to debunk the malicious rumour in the social media which claimed that he planned to rename the proposed airport after his home town of Aguleri.

“Don’t listen to detractors who are going around insinuating that an airport in Umueri will be named after Aguleri. It is a lie. That sort of thing can never happen. It cannot even be contemplated at all. These people just want to cause trouble for the fun of it. Please ignore them,” he pleaded.

Earlier, Obiano had inspected the 40 Km Aguleri-Uno – Oil Rig road project and expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work done so far, hoping that construction work on the road would reach an advanced stage before the onset of the rainy season.

He further noted that the road which cuts across seven agrarian communities was designed and being constructed to take heavy duty vehicles involved in oil and gas business while it would also open up food producing areas for effective harnessing of the abundant resources in the area.

In his own remarks, the Commissioner for Works, Sir Callistus Ilozumba, disclosed that two more dualized roads from Umunya and Nteje respectively would equally lead to the airport, while the state government had made several representations to the federal government for the dualisation of the Onitsha – Aguleri – Adani road with an interchange at the junction of the new road.

Sir Ilozumba also disclosed that the state had secured approval for the airport project and acquired enough land for its construction while the contract for the major road to the facility was awarded to a competent contractor.http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/jubilation-as-obiano-begins-work-on-umueri-airport-road/202668/

The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has said he did not owe any debt or borrow from any organisation, both within and outside the country when he was governor.

Obi, who spoke through his media aide, Mr. Valentine Obienyem.

He said his attention was drawn to the news publication in a national newspaper, classifying Anambra State among those owing various sums of money, with names of their culpable governors attached.

Obienyem said the error, in the case of Anambra State, lies in the fact the paper gave the impression that the N17.6 billion was incurred during Obi’s tenure.

His words: “While we recognise that states are owing under different governments, I make bold to say that under Mr. Peter Obi, Anambra State did not borrow any money nor raise bonds. The state only guaranteed the sum of N1 billion borrowed by farmers in the state from Fidelity Bank. The development loan offer from the World Bank for education and erosion control, which has a 40-year moratorium, was not drawn down by Peter Obi ‘s government. Not even one kobo was taken when Obi was the governor.”

Obienyem said the irony of the Nigerian situation today was that while other states raised bonds and borrowed money and still owed salaries and consequently left big debts, Obi fulfilled all his financial obligations without owing salaries or contractors; and without raising bonds. Despite this, he still left N75billion (cash and investment) for the state.

He said it was on record that he even liquidated arrears of pension and gratuities amounting to over N37 billion owed in the state since 1991. “Even in his handover note, Obi excluded about N5billion already made available to pay the March 2014 salaries, pension and gratuity as well as for certificates for already executed projects as part of the money he was leaving behind,, Obienyem said.

Obienyem, who described Obi as a prudent and consummate financial planner, said the $156 million he saved and interest accruing there was today worth over N35billion, excluding the naira component of the money he left.

Obienyem, who disclosed that the Debt Management Office can always confirm the financial situation of the state during the time of Obi and at all time, also challenged any person insinuating that the former governor borrowed money to name the financial institution through which he did that.

Anambra State Gov
ernment has expressed its intention to shut down Asaba Motor Park at Upper Iweka and turn it to what it called a garden park.
The Asaba Motor Park, located along Onitsha-Enugu road, was the scene of a petrol tanker accident where 69 people were burnt to death and 50 persons sustained injuries on May 31.
Already, the Executive Secretary of Anambra Emergency Management Agency, Chief Paul Odenigbo, accompanied by policemen. was sighted ordering motorists out of the area.
Odenigbo told newsmen that the park was originally designed as a garden park and not a motor park.
“Asaba Motor Park is illegal from the state government and rational stand-point,’’ he said.
However, it is clear that articulated vehicles had defied the order of Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra which outlawed their operations in all the federal and state roads during day time.
An investigation revealed that drivers of articulated vehicles are still plying all the routes with impunity during the day time in Onitsha.
Sources close to Onitsha Iron Rod/Steel Drivers Association told our correspondent that the union was ready to go any length in making sure that their rights of existence are not tampered with by the Anambra Government.
They said that they were ready for peaceful negotiation with the government on the best way out of the situation..

why can't dat road be a dual carriage, must all Anambra state roads be single lane?

Anyways lets hope, watch, pray and criticize constructively as the days go by
Building dual carriage ways inside Anambra cities will be very tough because people never respected the 25 meters minimum distance from the road recommended by town planning. Dualizing roads will take a lot of determination to demolish many properties built almost on the gutters along these roads.

Our best bet is to set out new Awka capital city and new Anam city with others like them to have the best form of city planning. If we do this, we can create modern cities that meet international standard. Fighting people to demolish illegal buildings they built so close to the road 30 or more years ago will be a counter productive waste of effort.

Anambra state government to establish two accidents emergency management units along the Enugu-Onitsha expressway

The Anambra State Govermment is to establish two Accidents Emergency Management Units along the Enugu - Onitsha expressway to ensure proper management of

emergency situations in the State. Also, well equipped ambulances are to be deployed in strategic locations in the 21 local government areas of the State for quick response to cases of emergency.
Disclosing these to newsmen in Awka, the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. (Mrs) Uju Nwogu stated that the Accident Emergency Management Units would be provided with life saving ambulances, ultra modern fire fighting trucks and medical personnel to assist in emergency situations in the State.
The Commissioner described the recent petrol tanker fire incident in Onitsha that claimed lives of innocent citizens as saddening and devastating. She said that it was in anticipation of such incidents that the State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano recently inaugurated the Board of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to ensure that cases of emergency like auto crashes, flood disasters and fire incidents were forestalled or promptly addressed when they occur.
Dr Nwogu further stated that the recent restriction by the State Government of tricycles and motorcycles from the major highways in the State was done essentially to decongest the roads, sustain security and prevent mindless accidents that lead to loss of innocent lives.
The Commissioner advised private and commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators in the State to adhere strictly to the State Government's directive adding that enforcement of the restriction by law enforcement agencies has commenced all over the State.
