@phoenix, plz what kind of fence did you do? How much did it cost you?
I just got 10 plots of 60*100 for my farm and each time I think of fencing it, my heart skips.

That should be my next year project but I need to know estimate of what am saving for.

Slowly but surely, I will get there.

I even have another challenge, after I bought land for my farm, estates are springing up in the location , left right and centre. I just hope I won't have issues with them in the long run.

Hi there, I had to fence it all around fully not really sure the exact height but it think it's about 10ft high. It costed a lot though, it was in excess of 3.5 mill for the fence alone.

I doubt I will be having the problem with neighbours anytime soon. The farm is located in a farming village. So it's not likely to become a living estate soon, I am surrounded by thousands of hectares of cassava plantation.

Hope the picture loads.

Please can you post your link. I am interested in opening a poultry farm for my cousins.

Did you mean the link for Facco? If so just Google facco west Africa. It should come up.

Many thanks.

The only way not to face problem with the community is to pack the birds manure and go dump somewhere else like twice a week otherwise you would go the way of many poultry farm. Ask around a lot of poultry farms had closed down or relocated because of this issue. The irony of the situation is that most of the times the poultry farm normally get to the community first
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by phoenixinc: 3:27pm On Jun 25, 2015
I guess you just need to have good bird waste disposal management in place. Most poultry farms are going the way of drying them and selling them off as manure.

I don't think I will have problem getting rid of manures though, there are loads of farmers around that will gladly pack them to use on their farms.

@farmtech tnx. nice url link. I also stumbled on the post on IMMUCOX, how effective would you say it is in controlling Coocci from ur experience?
..
Any vaccine will be effective if you follow instructions. So far, it is working since we have had no case of coccidiosis, unlike in the past batch.

Please when your layers start laying but the quantity is not much to take to the market, do you wait till you have enough before you sell them.

How long does it take for egg to spoil?
..
Sell as soon as possible. Contact people that buy in small qty - tea makers, street shops. Tea makers will likely buy off the small-size eggs. I don't know exactly how long they can last, but store them in a cool and dry place. They spoil faster under high temperature.

My poultry farmers, I finally saw an egg @exactlly 20weeks. My major Concern now is that about 6 of my birds are still having problems with their eyes. It's foamy in one eye only in all 6 of them. I ve used kenflox, I used enroflxacin n I'm using c the c now. The vet is saying that it's Infectious Corozal but the medication has refused to heal 6 of my birds. See pictures below

Congrats. the money will start rolling in now. Kenflox shd cure Coryzal unless the birds have not developed resistance. you may use drugs containing colistine .i heard that infected birds remains carrier. once again congrats.

congrats. try the drugs prescribed by davidsfarm for coryza. I once had such issue, I discovered the cause in my own case was accumulation of ammonia in their litter.

note that birds coming into lay are susceptible to some disease as a lot is taking from them to lay egg. put in extra care this early stage

I didn't give vitamins, I got the birds from animalcare and following their procedure, we noticed this when they try to lay. We are scheduled to give them Lasota tomorrow.

Egg peritonitis. Check google for pictures. Two of my birds once suffered from it.

Eggcelent:
aralgreen. Please, clarify what you mean by "TEMPORARY"? segun1976. It is expected that the birds do not finish their increased feeds initially. They would get to do that within days IF they have well-developed crops. The photo stimulation/midnight lighting will also help in that regard as the birds can eat at night. In the meantime, encourage your staff to "refresh" the feeds as a way of stimulating the birds to eat more. Success.
Hello House,
My birds have improved a bit and we are now @ 30% @ 25wks. Feed consumptin has gradually reached 100g/hen/day.
I just believe & pray production will catch up as expected. Feeding 3,260 birds from pocket is not palatable o.
Based on the result of the lab tests we have just finished administering drugs and commenced treatment for lice.
We refuse to be discouraged.

Many thanks for your response, I have been quoted in excess of 10 million naira.

I have been given the list of material required and was told source them then the company wanted around 500k for supervision because I told them I have my own labourers working on site already.

I am in the process of getting the prices for the list that was given to find out the cost.

Will keep the house updated on my progress. If anyone is intrested in the list I'll be happy to post it.

Also has anyone ever heard of a company called Facco, they supply cages, both automatic and semi automatic cages.

I am thinking of using them for my cages.

Many thanks.

Hello Phoenix,

It is very easy to throw away money when starting newly. The cost of 10million is completely too much to build a pen to house 13500 birds.

It depends on the materials you are using and the cage you plan to use. 3tiers or 4ties 100m by 8m will house 9,000 birds for 3tier cage. You need to do your checks very very well or u will spend double of actual amount.

My Farm is also in Ogun State. We can connect is you wish and you can call me on 07036124817

On close examination with one of d duckweed variants on google I have definitely seen it. Infact its in my backyard when it rains. It multiplies fast when d water is stagnant and blackish green or greenish black.
Do you still have some in your backyard? Can I get some? I really need it.

Thanks
