Like i heard that Abeokuta/Ijebus are wicked (pls pardon me for saying that, that's what I was told).
And more so, Once you marry their lady as a man, your wife will never allow you to care or even attend to any of your relation anymore. And if a lady marry their men, it is like he use her for money rituals.

It has really program my mind, no matter how good looking or good hearted a lady might be, If she's Ijebu/Abeokuta, it's no go area... I think this issue need to be re-adressed

Not only Yorubas, it happens in the igbo tribe too, some of them are skeptical about marrying from Ngwa and osu

Nonsense! If this was 1800s,the sayings might be correct. Why? Then, one grew up where he or she was born. The things that informed and shaped his values and character were found in his immediate environment :family, peers, institutions etc. But now one's values and character are also shaped by things that are not immediate to him:TV, radio, school etc. In fact many are not even born or raised in their ancestral homes.

@ OP they are just stereotypes that have been passed down from generation. Try to deal with people on an individual character basis. Not easy I know cos stereotypes tend to allow you form an opinion about a person.If you can get past it and try to see them for WHO they are and not what their tribe or ethnic background is known for, the world will be a better place.

So how do you account for the high intermarriage between the places you mentioned, especially ekiti and ogun state? huh

I think the intermarriage among the two states you've possibly witnessed occurred long time ago probably in the 80's and I absolutely believe that the families of the victims who are already into it are now responsible for the campaign against such intermarriage nowadays... moreover, I don't know about the other towns and villages in Ogun state, but the testimony I've heard about Abeokuta and Ijebu is not promising at all.

My dad is Egba, mum is Ondo. Am getting married to an Ekiti girl. Although I agree there is some form of beef btw Ijebus and Egbas, that hasn't stopped them from marrying each other.

I think its silly to say u won't marry a well cultured Yoruba girl because she is from a particular clan.

He has both yoruba and Ghanaian surname hyphenated.
