They are not the same thing, bro.

I know many igbos who attend military and federal government colleges in the north, no-one treated them differently because they were Igbo.

One of my good friends attended the Nigerian Military School in Zaria and never had any problems there.

On the other hand i know many black people who attended white elite schools in the US and the UK that had serious problems simply because of the colour of their skin.

The point is that racism is there but exaggerated like the Op said. I have lived in both countries so I know.

The poster is extremly daft for the racism bit. I read that and didnt bother to read the rest.

How can a slowpoke spend a couple of days in a state and say racism is exaggerated? Go and tell that to all the minorities living in section 8 concrete jungles, the young black men who are never given a chance as they are criminalized from ages as early as 12 for smoking weed(Obama smoked weed too) and young black men who are gunned down for no obvious reason (Walter Scott, Oscar Grant, John Crawford III, Sean Bell e.t.c.).

A country where a high profile individual running for the Republican party presidential nomination can openly call all Mexicans in the US rapists.

Please do not trivialise the real sufferings of millions of people in the US just because you managed to secure a visa for a whirlwind 10 day visit.

Shaking my head for some people. angry souls like you need compassion. ICA had to go check out your profile. I pass. No comment

Thanks.

So why blame the white system for (mainly) our own woes?

How can we make these successful drug dealers, athletes, artistes understand the need to make their own community better by sowing into it as the whites do

There's a lot at play here and at the end of the day, Blacks (AA, Africans, Carribeans.. all African descendants) allow themselves to be played. whites will make instant judgements based on what they believe is your race and this ideology has been meddled into every social order they created or control. They are not protesting to bring an end to this. The world's neediness to be politically correct has only pushed their culture of hate more underground. When their hate reappears we see events like crazy white boys going into schools or church shooting anyone black... AA, African or Carribean (they're not trying to distinguish accents). Their Police remain suspecting a person of color is guilty of a crime when white people are just a culpable of crime.. this is only a small window into the magnitude of their hatred and it certainly impacts people. in fairness, they've been like this for centuries, at least the American ones have.

To answer "How can we make these successful drug dealers, athletes, artistes understand the need to make their own community better by sowing into it as the whites do ? ??"

When I learned about African slavery, I often thought to myself, "what made Africans remain slaves for so long, in many cases they outnumbered their white slavemaster, 100:1, and black people today want to get tough in my face being mad".. only part of the answer lies in the reality that Blacks unconsciously taught the slavery to their next generation who ultimately accepted their place. It wasnt considered horrible slavery to the slaves like we see it today because at least to them they had food, shelter, water, and a sense of security. Today this is the trap many Black people EVERYWHERE still fall into except the reward has evolved, especially when it comes to white people and their jobs, money, education, religion, etc etc etc. They dont see it as slavery, proudly playing along, thinking a person like me is a reverse racist for calling it for what it is. Convincing the drug dealers, the black student, the black crook politicians, the evil black man every where of this is only the beginning of raising awareness for the need of a communal effort. Goodluck! this is part of the reason why we're so behind and slavery still remains imo.

Learning the gory details of slavery will help you learn a lot about white Americans and Black people and the extremes Blacks will go to when they think they need to survive. It's laughable seeing this same behavior in Black people today and they dont see themselves as slaves either.

No you will remain a scumbag because you are so full of self loathing. How can you say that we have never invented anything in this world when it has been proven time and time again that the Greeks copied everything they learnt from Egyptians who were pure black African people? How were we existing before the white man invaded our continent and truncated our development, have you ever asked yourself this question? Why are our artefacts sitting in the British museum on display?

How do you think a parent will feel if his child in secondary school is carrying LAST in the class and each time he reminds his parent how he used to pass very well in primary one shocked

Is that not parallel to what you are saying?

I am not self loathing otherwise I will not be keen about realistically discussing how to improve our lot with the necessary individual and group sacrifice to be out of our seemingly permanent scumbag status, not so

America needs to implement stricter law for gun control.

People are being shot everyday. Racism is still high in America.

Who is the parent in this scenario? I hope its not the white man who has orchestrated all of our current problems
The world we live in is not as black and white as you see it.

Just having the desire to progress is not enough, you have to have the military might to protect yourself from your enemies, its not enough for us as a nation so say ok lets industrialise or lets diversify our economy, we have to be able to prevent our country from being overrun by our enemies and right now we are not in a position to protect ourselves. So even if we decided to kick out the multinationals from Nigeria and overhaul our entire socio economic structure we would be earmarked for destruction by the US and Europe as their economic success is dependant on our economic failure.

I like to engage with people who can reason and articulate an argument logically not just throw up a verbigeration as a substitute. So what if a black man becomes president does that mean there is no longer racism ? We are talking about America so there is ethnic bashing in Nigeria what does the one have to do with the other. If you do not know the history of blacks in America go and study before coming here to talk rubbish. No one has said people should not take responsibility for themselves but find out the history before talking "jazz" . Black people went to segregated schools only a generation ago which of course were badly funded. During the slave period black men were not allowed to be fathers to their children who belonged to the owners and were often removed so for several generations black people had no famlly life and no models of that and when slavery ended they had the worst of it. So it is no surprise that black in America tend to marry less often than other folks and having children with often no father figure. Black people die earlier and and have worse health .The system is loaded against them and only a small number break out. If you are a black man in America before the age of 20 more than one person you know will be killed etc . So please before you open your ignorant smug mouth next time try and learn more about the subject

Thank you very much for this. While I was reading some books on slavery, I read that the abolition of slave trade in America didn't actually go well with some of the blacks themselves because they're used to being owned. Going out their to fend for themselves was even a bigger risk to them, so they whined and cried when they were freed. The feeling of dependency is actually the root cause of what is happening to the AA's. Generations later and they haven't actually been freed of the shackles of mental slavery.

So valuing your history is "blabbing about your lost glory" smdh! Ever heard the quote: a man who does not know his history is doomed to repeat it?

Are you aware that on many western tv stations they dedicate entire channels to documentaries about their history - why do you think they do this?- are these countries using these documentaries to "blabb about their lost glory"

Ive learnt so much about british history from just watching their history channel and i find these documentaries highly educational, i also realise the function of these documentaries - they instill nationalistic pride in the minds of the british people and promote unity and cohesiveness, something that is drastically lacking in Nigeria.

Were you also laughing when Libya and Ivory Coast were bombed by NATO or are you so removed from reality that you think that its impossible for the same thing to happen to Nigeria.

The only way we have a chance to develop is if we forge closer ties to China anything short of that will mean that we must remain on the IMF world bank plantation which has already condemned 80% of our population to a life of endless misery and suffering.

The American president is by far the most powerful person in the WORLD (just check out air force one or the preparations b4 he visits anywhere). 9ja copied the American presidential system. Some goversors (eg Texas) have little power. The mayor of NYC has more power than most governors. If the US were to open it's borders just for one day, the world will overrun the country - it is not only 9jas. The visa lottery is because certain countries like Mexico and China bring all the immigrants, the intent is to have some diversity, to give other countries a chance. ETC, ETC.

What you are doing is not valuing history but rather hanging to it as an excuse/justification/alibi for present day lethargy.
The quote is "A man who does not LEARN from his history.
You see learning goes beyond valuing. It is about knowing how far people moved/progressed in the past to encourage movement into the future. Big difference.
For example, if one understands that our African ancestors moved from using stones to iron for cutting things, then one can be inspired to improve on what one has today, not so

But the Chinese aligned with the West to develop to where they are today, not so
Do we know the sacrifices they made to come so far?
Are we ready to make similar sacrifice to forge ahead?
