AfricanApple:Hmmmm! I first read in 2012 or so. Author Walter Rodney was allegedly taken out by the corrupt Western powers. What have you gained from it so far? Can we continue to blame the Whites for our underdevelopment? What roles have we played in our poverty and misery? Please, enlighten us the more. Thanks. |

dearpreye:Alright, I'll send it later in the evening. I guess I'd need your email to do that. Or better still, I'll upload it on datafile host for others who might be interested. |

MizMyColi:That's exactly what most people say, the book can make one crave for power so much that he/she turns into a megalomaniac. I for one can't practice what is written therein, but I like the book because of its rich content of historical exploits by great men and women of old. I love the "Observance of the law" and "transgression of the law" part. Generally, I love history. |

MizMyColi:Nice...... You know we've talked a lot of being hated for being true to our own ideals than being loved for being fake. We must not compromise our principles to appear compassionate. Keep it up! |

Ferdybaba:That will be very useful to me. Since a friend lost his job, I've been thinking somewhat outside the salary box. I'll endeavour to write them down and see it later. |

SeverusSnape:That's a cool attribute @Loving history. I can barely remember yesterday ![]() I will not totally throw out the ideals it proposes, but as you know.... Power intoxicates. |

MizMyColi: Indeed, power intoxicates and corrupts too... |
| Re: Which Book Are You Currently Reading? Share Some Thoughts! by Nobody: 4:37pm On Aug 06, 2015 |
SeverusSnape:It does. And that's because the natural human nature is weak and corrupt. |
| Re: Which Book Are You Currently Reading? Share Some Thoughts! by MizMyColi(f): 4:43pm On Aug 06, 2015 |
dearpreye:The natural human nature isn't. Else there will be no need to return to innocence. |

MizMyColi:My dear, the natural human is weak and corrupt, hence the checks and balances put in place by responsible governments. |

dearpreye:I'm not through with the book though but from what I've read so far; talking in view point if our fore fathers, the colonial masters are highly to be blamed because they took advantage of them, I'm aware there were some African tribes that fought with the Europeans till they could no longer contain it, there was no weapon, blahhhh all those stories that made them the loose but in view point of present day Africa, from what I've seen, read in news, interactions with peer groups and all that, Africans are solely to be blamed for the problems that we are having or may have in future. we are yet to learn how to take destinies into our hands. We can be the leading continent today if we want, all we need is the decision and action |
| Re: Which Book Are You Currently Reading? Share Some Thoughts! by Nobody: 10:01pm On Aug 06, 2015 |
AfricanApple:Thanks for the reply. The first paragraph was more about the problems; the second about the solutions. And that's where I'm troubled. The second paragraph. Africans have to take their own destinies into their hands and deploy all their mental and physical abilities and faculties to chart their way to progress, development and prosperity. We just can't keep recycling the same old blame game. Taking Nigeria for instance, even after the Whites left more than 50 years ago, we are yet to sincerely seek to solve our problems, though we clearly know the solutions to these problems. We must seek to design systems that are unique and tailored to meet our own needs. So far, a lot of African nations are still running a system put together by their former slave masters. And that's why we can't go too far. We are our own worst enemies. |

VickyRotex:If there was ever anyone who gained so much from this thread, i'm that one. Once again, it became very apparent I need to up my reading skills and desire. It appears I now have more books to read than I have the time to read them. I just have to prioritise. Thanks for your contributions. My day was bright and beautiful. |
| Re: Which Book Are You Currently Reading? Share Some Thoughts! by VickyRotex(f): 10:35pm On Aug 06, 2015 |
dearpreye: That's the word "Priority" Same with me, got list of books written down already. But I wouldnt rush them. I think I'd apply the 'slow and steady" principle here. Thanks for your contributions aswel. I noticed, you took out time to reply/explain some of the books you've read. And looks like you've read most of the books listed here. ![]() Enjoy the rest of the night! |

tpiander:Oh I see! I guess you answered that already. Obviously, cos her books are very good and inspiring! So, people get to hear about her, from time to time. |
| Re: Which Book Are You Currently Reading? Share Some Thoughts! by Nobody: 10:44pm On Aug 06, 2015 |
VickyRotex:I might as well go with that principle. If the target is just to count the number of books we've read, then it's amount to an egregious waste of time, and arrogance. It's more of how much we have applied from the few books we've read. Knowing isn't enough; we must apply. Taking the time to reply and explain the books I've read was the fastest and easiest way through which I could recall and retain whatever I've read. That's the quickest way I learn. It's a win/win situation. .I started reading since I was a teenager. I became angry with my clear lack of knowledge and was determined to reduce that ignorance. There are still thousands to be read. All we need to be wealthy, successful and healthy, has been written down. We just have to find them. The more we learn, the more useful we can be to others. Thanks for your time. The night is far spent. Good night, and God bless. |

dearpreye: Wow! Nice one! ![]() Exactly! That's it, we just have to find them, read them, and apply them! Amen! God Bless you and have a Good Night too. |
