Love the way you took out time to analyze this so well..You've said it all! Thanks. Someone told me about Max chicks yesterday, and after seeing the 6-7weeks broilers, I was astonished... Will try see if I can post the pics here. I will go with economy chicks, from the analysis you gave, It's the best for a newbie like me. To be able to test the ground. ..
yemmit90:

Yes, price may likely hit 200 or above especially during the first half of September, but will definitely come down after.

Maize 60% ( commercial concentrate please).

I can give you 98% assurance on Obasanjo and Ajanla farm DOC. Their birds are very strong, eat well and dont die anyhow.

as for stocking, there are two type of birds in the markets during Xmas, Economy birds and Rich man birds. Economy birds are the ones you sell between #1000-2500 while the rich man ones goes between #2500-5000. It now depends on which you really want to do. Rich man birds should be stock between August to mid-September. You can stock the economy birds as late as 2nd half of October.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages. We prefer the Economy birds not only because of our large stocks nature but also the following;

* Cheaper DOC during this period.

* keeping birds for long time increase the chances of deceases outbreak.

* You sell them off very fast( looking at Nigeria economy, there are very few people that can afford/pay 3000-5000 for a bird.

based on your site location and the type of structure your are building, I will advise you to turn the project to broiler farm, it will be cheaper for you, with that structure i can not see you succeed in layer operation do to lack of adequate layer environmental control managements, unless you want to turn the operation to a free range layer option that require 5 times additional manpower and resources. when you are starting poultry farming in a small scale like yours its better to start with broiler knowing that every 28-45 days you will pull the birds without risking more on decease.
Please sir, i have constructed my poultry farm house but the floor gets very moist whenever it rains. Could this negatively affect the birds? Thanks in advance.

So, you missed gumboro on Day 28 and you didn't give them on Day 29,30,31 etc until they started dying. Your vet warned you that the mortality would be more but didn't advise you on what to do...Seems more to me like you wanted to see if you could evade vaccinations rather than a honest miss.
that's not exactly the case. I gave them Lasota instead of Gumboro. I was hoping to give them Gumboro but I was treating them for Cocci

I have been following this thread but must have missed it. I'm planning to restock by the way. Do you think they will be fine provided I go through the correct vaccinations because I'm worried the disease is now already in my farm.

Anticipating your reply.

Before you restock. Kind wash your pen and use quality disinfectant wait for about 7 days or so. Most important follow vaccination routine closely. Is very important.

ok. I already bought formaldehyde, izal and chloroform. But since I still have 60+ left and with only one pen in my farm,the plan is to demarcate the pen and fumigate the halved part.

Hello Great Farmers, I have been on holidays for sometime. Our 3,264 POL birds are now reduced to 3,000 birds @35 wks now. Production is barely 70% also. Trying our best to improve production- wld administer vitamins next week.
Please to connect a friend to one of our senior farmers in Abuja. He has interest in poultry farming and I wish we could encourage him. @Jamp et al, please assist.
If you are willing and available, please let's talk on how you connect tprefferably this weekend).
God bless the works of our hands.

You can't disinfect the pen while the old stock are still there. I will advice you quarantine the remaining stock in a separate pen besides you can't introduce new stock with old stock, it will surely increases their chance of infected

Good morning boss and everyone else in the house including Farmtech, farmgate, davidzfarm18, AgrotConsult, Yemmit90. Special thanks to Kevin96 as he's been helpful and instrumental to the restarting of my poultry and procurement of the miracle feed (KBC10) . Please advice accordingly as I have observed the following: red patches on pool and also dark brown pasty poop this morning in my 15 days old broilers. I've treated with kepcox for 48 hours which ended yesterday and I vaccinated them this morning with lasota. Attached is a picture of their poop! Thanks for your anticipated advice!

AgrotConsult:
administer drugs immediately use the tail end of a teaspoon n pinch a little fetch like an old man will put snoff into his nostrils all into 1liter of drinking water dnt mix multivitamin yet. just do dz for 2days first n try check 4 any improvemnt. then multivitamins follows_ a question to u, dz blood stool hw doz it luk like? is it watery loose with small red stool? or a brown droopings with small bloodstain more like a patch. observe d faeces closely cuz one could be a symptom of a disease outbreak lurking in d corner while d other a mere case of coccidiosis::;;;

Transparent cellophane that's a little thick. Package as airtight as possible. You should consider freezing if use is not immediate plus it'll also increase the weight a little if you are selling per kilo!

If the said red patches on their poo is look like blood, please give them 'Anticocci' as fast as possible.

Hope their poo is normal now?
