Re: Shattered Glass by Nobody: 7:22pm On Sep 08, 2015
"Biebi, stop nau. I no like am. No dey cry like this. No dey cry anyhow, nau"
Biebi pulled herself together temporarily and cleaned her tears with a hanky.
"He looked me in the eyes, Vosa. He looked me in the eyes and called me a.... A cheap hôe." She resumed sobbing once more.
"Cheap?!" Vosa's eyes shone. "Does he know how much you charge per night? It's not a small something o, B"

Biebi stopped crying for a minute, looked up and hissed at Vosa.
"Ewu. Na only mumu mumu thing na im you sabi. I dey talk serious matter here, you dey there dey talk nonsense." Vosa shifted in her seat.
"Wetin nau? I talk true, you still wan beat me. Na small pikin deh worry your brother. After all the suffer way you don suffer on top im head, he look you finish call you 'prosstitute'. Even if no be lie, na everything person see im go talk?"
"Shut up Vosa and tell me what to do."
"Leave Oyibo. Im brain go reboot, sooner or later."
"I can't. He's my brother."
"Well...." Visa started to say, but her phone rang, interrupting. "Who be dis?" She picked it up, scrunching her nose,

"Yes?"
"Vosa?" The gruff, uncertain voice at the other side asked.
"Eh-hen?" Richard let out an audible sigh.
"It's me, Richard"
"So?"
"Chief Benson's son."
"Oh? Na you be the mumu boy wey them no give home training, ba?"
"Um....can we meet up?"
"Ees not only 'meet up.' Meet down, nko? Biebie, see me, see this goat o-" She ended the call and faced her friend.
"Who was that?"
"You know that my customer-Chief Benson. He take me go see im son one day. The idiot come insult me, ME, a whole Vosa. Anyways, I take am as one of those things sha. I no mind am. Now, im come tell me say im wan meet up. Abi this boy done chop chase so?"
Biebi folded her hands and looked at Visa, half-smiling. At least, she was providing her with distraction from her heart wrenching troubles.

"What I don't understand, Onovosa, is why Chief introduced you to his son. Abi you don dey hide small small things from me?"
"Hmmn. Biebi this gist pass gist sef. Chief wan make ME, Onovosa, marry am" Biebi gasped, shocked.
"Ehn?! For real?"
"Forreal, my sista!" Vosa stood up, dramatically.
"So what are you waiting for? A prophet to tell you to go on?" Vosa cleared her throat and sat back on the sofa again,
"Biebi, you look me finish come dey ask me dah kain question. Biebi, I no fit marry old cargo nau. You fit marry am?"
"So far he can sponsor Efe and Oyibo, I'm good."
"But me no get small pikins dem to take care of nau. I'm an independent woman." Her phone began ringing, she looked at the caller ID and hissed.
"Na that mumu Richard."
"What does he even want sef?" Biebi asked.
"I dunno an' I dun' care." Vosa stood up. "Oya, make we go chop."

"I would love to, Vee. But I promised Dafe I would come visit him today"
"Hmmn. Na so love dey start. Why I no dey for your shoe nau?"
"There's nothing enviable about this position."
"Ma fren', shut up. If I were you, I go make am trip for me dieeeee. Then im go marry me with all that im money. Shebi na sponsor you dey look for Efe and Oyibo? Amnesia good o."

Biebi picked up the plate filled to the brim with the cooked sachet of the 'Hungry Man size' and walked to the dining.
"Wow" Dafe smiled at the plate in her hand, his mouth watering. He rubbed his hands together, took the plate from her before she even settled down. She shook her head at him.
"Are you a kid?" She asked after she had sat down. He scooped a mouthful of the spicy meal into his mouth, ignoring her.
"I don't even know why I bothered cooking this piece of shît for you."
"Hey", He stopped eating and pointed his fork at her, mock annoyed. "Indomie is Bae, not 'a piece of shît'."
Biebi laughed, in spite of herself.

He continued eating hungrily, swallowing every piece of it before he could even chew it completely. Biebi watched him in amazement.
As he swallowed the last spoon, he suddenly burst into a coughing fit. Biebi quickly got to her feet, ran to the kitchen, grabbed a glass and ran back to the dining after filling it with water.
She pressed the glass to his lips and watched him drink to quell the discomfort he felt from swallowing the wrong way. She noticed he was calmer and frowned at him.
"What?" He asked, wiping his mouth.
"Why are you holding my waist?"
"Oh... Am I?" He smiled sheepishly and removed his hands from her waist. "It seemed like a good way to die."
"Shut up" She said sourly and went to have her seat.
"One minute you're sweet, the next..."
"....I'm trying to save your dying ass." He grinned.
"See how you ran to get me that water."
"So?" She crossed her hands.

"So for once, you've showed you love me, GIRLFRIEND."
Biebi paused to stare at him. He had those puppy eyes about him. He looked like he trusted her, like he was even in love with her. Maybe she should just tell him everything. Tell him the whole truth. Maybe he would still...want her. Love her. Treat her like a lady.
She cleared her throat.

"Dafe?"
"Yes, my beautiful, hot girlfriend." She blinked. Hot? Hot? That was what he thought of her. Disappointment gnawed at her heart. He just wanted to sleep with her like every every other guy. She was stupîd to think what he felt was real.
So that's the game we're playing, she thought. I'll use every drop of your cent like all the others.

"Are you okay?" He asked. She smiled forcefully.
"How much do you want me?" Dafe almost jumped for joy. Was she really...? God, he'd been waiting so long for this.
"More than a kid wants candy."
"Pay."
"Excuse me?"
"5 million. One night."
"What is your pusssy made of-gold? And why am I supposed to pay to sleep with you? Aren't you my girlfriend?"
"1. I'm not.
2. Even if I was, that doesn't give you automatic access to my body, you dîck"
Dafe stood up, getting upset.

"What are you saying, Bieb?"
"I'm not your girlfriend." She stood up too and looked him in the eyes.
"So you took advantage of me?"
Biebi's phone rang and she picked it up, glad for the timely interruption.

"Hello?"
"Aunty Bibiiiii...."
"Efe, Efe what's wrong?" Her sister was hysterical on the other line.
"Aunty, they've coman take Oyibo."
"Who took him?"
"Police pipu. Aunt come fass! They say he thief something" Biebi hung up and picked up her bag immediately.
"Bieb, you okay?"
"I'm fine"
"You're not."
"I'll see you later."
"I'm coming with you." He picked up his keys. "Let's go"
"No! Dafe, you're not coming with me. I told you I'm not your girlfriend."
"But you are my friend. You look worried and I'm not leaving you in this state. Let's go." He took hold of her hand. She walked out with him, making no further protests.

If not for the 500k, Vosa thought as she watched Chief Benson humping, sweating and grunting like a pig. Before long, he yelped as he climaxed suddenly. He dropped flat on top of her and breathed heavily.
"Tchww!" She hissed and pushed him off her.
"Vos-a" He said in short gasps. "You'll kill me, I swear"
"Na you wan kill yourself o. You go dey do wetin pass you. No go die on top me o. I no get that strength."
"Didn't you enjoy me?" He touched her cheek, teasingly. Vosa shook her head and got up. She made her way to the bathroom and had a quick bath, then wore her clothes and sat on the chair and waited for Chief Benson to recuperate.
"E be like say I go dey go o." Vosa announced, getting impatient.
"Wait for me in the restaurant downstairs. Order anything you want." She stood up.
"I dey hungry sef" She grabbed her purse and left.

***********************************************************************************************
"Jollof rice.... And chicken" She said, as she got to the counter. "With moimoi.... And small of those vegetable things"
"Salad" A husky male voice said from behind.
"Eh-hen. Salad!" She acquiesced. "Thank you o jare, my brother." She said without turning back.
"Is that all madam?" The waiter asked her.
"Em....5 alive. And meat pie sha."
"That would be #6,500, Ma" Vosa shrugged.
"Why you dey tell me? Na Chief Benson go pay"
"Who? Or you're with someone?"
"Here you go" Richard who was standing behind her came forward and paid.
"You this boy!" Vosa pointed at him, angrily.

"Technically, I'm not a boy and we really don't have to do this here, Vosa"
"So you think a man will talk to me the way you did?!" Richard looked both pleased and surprised.
"You can speak English?" Vosa gasped.
"Thunder fire you!"
"Let's have a seat, please" He left to seat at a table. She ignored him and sat elsewhere. He signed, left his seat and went to sit next to her.

"I'm sorry about the last time. I shouldn't have talked to you that way." Vosa rolled her eyes, unmoved.
"Wetin dey make you 'sorry'?"
"Well-" He thought for some seconds. "I was wrong. You're obviously not an illiterate."
"Why? I no go school"
"But it was wrong of me to be so rude to you."
"Ma fren' wee you keep quiet! Your papa talk say make you come apologize, you dey here dey blow stupîd stupîd grammar."
What was her problem? Richard thought, grumpily. Why couldn't she just take the apology, like the illiterate that she was and let sleeping dogs lie before his Dad took drastic measures?

"I really am sorry, Vosa, and I'll make it up to you in any way. Just ask."
"You're sorry?"
"Yes."
"Prove it."
"How?"
"Think. Na you go school. After all." Playing tough? Hmn. Definitely not just any ordinary illiterate girl. What was her problem anyway?
She stood up.
"But if I go advise you, I go tell you say make you no dey talk wetin you no mean. Because e dey quickly show. You hear? If you mean this sorry wey you talk, you no need to tell me. I go juss know.
But truth to be told, you no mean am." And she walked away.
Richard looked astounded that a woman of her calibre could say such and for a second, he admired those words. He admired how she saw through him.
So that's what Pops saw in her, he thought to himself. Depth.p

His father rushed in, buttoning his shirt.
"Where is she? Vosa?" He said on sighting Richard.
"She left. Apparently I irritated her so much so she couldn't stand me."
"You didn't apologize?" He shrugged.
"I did, but she said I wasn't being sincere."
"My smart Vosa" Chief Benson grinned, proud.
And Richard smiled cause he knew.

Mr and Mrs. Yemi barged into Monica's house, two policemen with them.
"Where is she?!" Mrs. Yemi shouted join at the top of her lungs. "Where is that stupîd girl?"
Monica exited her apartment, still putting on her night gown. She rolled her eyes on sighting them.

"What's all this?" She asked, obviously irritated.
"Arrest her. She has my son in hostage." Monica kept her hands akimbo.
"You can't have me arrested! We don't do shît like this in Cameroon. You don't have a warrant for my arrest, nor do you have proof that I kidnapped your pathetic excuse of a son."
"Can you hear her?" Mr. Yemi said to the DPO.
"This is not Cameroon." Mrs. Yemi began. "This is Nigeria and you will play by our rules. You were the last to see my son. You've done something to him, you this witch!" She turned to the policemen. "And what are you two standing here for? Arrest thus woman!"

The men in uniform advanced towards Monica, handcuff in hand.
Monica took a step backwards, realizing the seriousness of the issue.
"Okay, okay relax. I think I know of a place where we both go to relax after a long day. I can take you there."

"Oyibo Izogie." Biebi repeated for the third time, struggling with her irritation at their obvious lack of interest.
"Oh!" The obese policeman at the counter finally barked out, tearing himself away from the conversation of the other officer. "That one?" And he hissed a long hiss that made Biebi cringe. What had he done?
"The boy go steal jersey. Imagine that."
"What?! A jersey? Are you kidding me?" Where had she gone wrong? A mere jersey, Biebi thought. She felt thoroughly disappointed. The policeman laughed harshly.
"You be im...girlfriend abi which one?" Biebi rolled her eyes.
"His sister. I'm here to bail him"
"Hahn!" The officer commented, arranging his files. "Your money no be tikini money o. Them for kill am there. Finish am. Linsh am! If we no arrive on time, infact-"And he paused for dramatic effect.

"Okay, so how much is the bail?" Dafe put in.
"50k is not a bad start"
"Biebi, go and see your brother. I'll settle him"
"No...."
"Seriously, you wanna be stubborn right now?"

************************************************************************************************
"Why did you do it?" Biebi asked as she sat opposite her bruised and battered brother.
"I needed a jersey" He said, looking down at his feet. She slapped him hard on his face, without thinking about it.
"Yes, I might be a prôstitute, but I do it for you two. I do it so you don't ever lack, so you can get the education that I never did! So you won't have to steal!! This is a slap in the face! How dare you, Alex Oyibo Izogie!" Oyibo rubbed his cheek and frowned.
"If you don't have any morals, then why should I? I wanted the Jersey and I didn't want to take any out of your ashewo money" Biebi gasped at how his words stung.
"Your sister was dying, Oyibo. She was dying, I couldn't do anything. I had no money. I had no one. What did you want from me? I couldnt steal.
I watched you too starving. WHAT DID YOU WANT FROM ME?!
You think it was fun for me? Losing my virginity to an overweight pig old enough to be my father? You think I wanted that life?! I had no choice!
It was the devil or the deep blue sea...
I-" She paused and wiped her tears. "But... It's good to know you don't appreciate my sacrifices. That you think of me as dirty and a prostîtute. It's good to know, Oyibo."
"I'm....sorry" He mumbled, looking morose.
"No, don't be. But lemme tell you something Oyibo, I would do it again. Over and over again. Because I can't watch the both of you suffer. I'd rather just die"

Bièbi settled uneasily in the front seat of Dafe's car. The introduction between him and her little brother was awkward. Her brother obviously didn't like him and she saw it on his frown as he looked out the window from the back seat.
"Oyibo? Won't you thank Dafe? He single handedly paid your bails and cancelled all charges?" She saw him roll his eyes tiredly from the corner of her eyes.
"Thanks" He said brusquely.
"You're welcome, young man." Dafe replied, smiling. "Say....is that a Liverpool jersey you have on?" He asked, squinting at the front mirror to get a better view of the jersey he was putting on.
"Yeah..." Oyibo answered, uninterested. He didn't want to get to know him, he just wanted to be left alone.

"A fan?" Dafe kept at it.
"Yeah...." Oyibo answered again, barely audible. Dafe burst out laughing.
"Losers! How did you guys like us whipping your ass in the last League?!" Oyibo looked up, his interest piqued.
"You're a Man U fan?!" Oyibo scoffed. "We won four leagues! We're not losing to you guys any longer, so just enjoy the victory while it lasts."
"Well, I guess you guys can prove it on Saturday at Old Trafford"
"Of course na! Daniel Sturbridge is back! You guys are dead!!"
Biebi smiled to herself. As much as she disliked football, she really liked that they were bonding over something. She kept her eyes on the road, thinking about quitting her 'job', while the duo continued arguing.

"You know the problem with Liverpool? Your coach is too slow. Unlike Louis Gaal, Baba o!"
"Yeah-" Biebi interjected. "Louis is quite the man"
The two men looked at her weirdly.
"What do you know about football?" Oyibo asked.
"Leave her, she wants to feel among" Dafe said to Oyibo and they both laughed.
"What are you saying? I know football too"
"Oya, who is Liverpool's coach?" Oyibo asked.
"What new deal did De Gea sign?" Dafe put in.
"Name the mid fielders in Liverpool"
"Even ordinary, how many players are on the team, do you know?"

"Shut up jhoor!" Biebi said, defeated. "Because you know small football, we won't hear word." They both laughed. The boys continued talking about football, each prromoting his club and putting down the other.
"Over there" Biebi pointed to her house and he pulled up beside it. Dafe looked at the bungalow, a little surprised.
Oyibo got out of the car.
"It was nice meeting you" Dafe said to him and waved. He waved back and entered the house.
"So....this is where you stay?" Dafe turned to her as he spoke.
Biebi shrugged.
"Not as comfy as your place, but we manage."
"So tell me"
"Tell you what?"
"If you're not my girlfriend, then...." Biebi sighed.
"You got into a fight. You got hurt. I helped you."
"And then took advantage of me. And then sold my figurine."
"I'm sorry..."
"I don't want you to be sorry. I just want you to tell me the whole truth. Is this it? Or is there more?" Biebi thought about it. No, no, she couldn't tell him everything.
"That's the whole truth."
"Biebi?"
"Yeah?"
"If I found out you lied to me once more, I will never forgive you." She swallowed, nervous.
"I'll see you later, Dafe"
"I mean it, Bieb" She nodded and got out the car, her heart pounding,
