If u are a good one and a proffessional( well trained), u'll convince angel Gabriel even though you are a sinner.
Proffessonalism is it. It's magic and it pays except for GNLD and INSURANCE!

Personallay speaking, I dont think I can do any job apart from marketing.

Marketing entails movement and meeting new people which paves way for your personal development too. As long as ur figures are gud, the sky is jst d startin point.

You go to the office when you like and leave when you deem fit.

Mehn, any sensible person will pray for a marketing offer.

Soo much loving my job

I'm a person that likes exploring different options and always wanted to try out a marketing job though I don't have any tangible experience in the field. Everybody I've spoken with has said that career choice is a no go area. That brings me to the question 'why is marketing so dreaded by Nigerian graduates?' To the extent that a colleague told me he would rather remain unemployed than take up a marketing job. Please I need to read you opinion and maybe nairalanders can please share their marketing experience.
Bruv! That area is really not funny at all. How do I explain marketing an insurance policy to Nigerians who don't even know what insurance is all about?Yes! I said INSURANCE cos i'm on a per-time marketing Job with an Insurance company, bruv! Truely it's really not funny, you get paid on meagre commission on every insured or client you bring in, and note: the commission is higher with the policies or insurance product potential clients would probably take on their heels from.
Seriously and bluntly speaking, marketing is really not as frustrating as we've made it seem, but endeavouring into it as an Insurance marketer, will show you a new dictionary meaning of what the word FRUSTRATION is. The. Economic situation of the country is also guilty for making the proffession(marketing) look the way it has always seem in the eyes of graduates within the country, This is because, some marketable products requires certain level of literacy by potential clients or customers before they can come to terms with the seller, But in a country where you get almost 60% of her citizens not being well tutored and enlightened, what would you expect?
May be if we had been like most developed countries, the Job(marketing) would have been an Ice cream which everyone would want to taste!!

While I understand that posters pro-marketing (sales really) wants to sell the profession to us, claiming people who do not like sales are lazying in AC conditioned offices chatting all day is simply ridiculous.

Some people (e.g. yours sincerely) simply do not like sales jobs.

Besides, if everyone was selling, who would do the buying? Who would design the product /services to sell? Who would provide the after sales support and manage customers' expectations? Who would clean up the mess of the sales people?(those people are messy honestly from over promising customers to selling What the company doesn't even offer)? Who would help the salesman sell especially technical products and services? Who would manage the salesman? Who would train the salesman on the product/Service they are selling? Who would do market intelligence? Who would calculate the salary & commission of the salesman? Who would develop a pricing model for the salesman?

Infact, all non-sales professionals... let's leave the 'Almighty' salesman to do all themselves grin

All u have illustrated is not marketing career but a sales career, sales is one of the aspect of marketing, make sure u defiance your topic before you post.

If you cannot do sales job at one point in your life ..forget growing in life ....you can't rise to a certain degree ...you can't even think of owning your own company

Banks can give you loans and credit facility but won't give you clients

They mistake sales from marketing ...well sales is part of marketing but just part

Marketing is branding , advert , PR as media mix with sales

So they need to be lectured

Because people doing marketing job don't know wot marketing entails. I read marketing and d way i approach a client will never be d same way graduates of engineering do. Another tin i observed here is dat people criticise marketing job here if ordinary microfinance bank advertise 4 marketing officer position, u will see lawyers, doctors, engineering, accountants applying 4 dat position making it difficult 4 us dat know marketing and passion 4 sales. My advice is dat people should go and practice their professions and leave marketing 4 us. Thanks.

Maybe you should complain to the employers and not the applicants. The fact is, not all those that study marketing can actually do it better than those that didn't study it. Employers look at what you can offer, not what you studied in school. That is why engineers become bank managers. BTW, there are some marketing jobs that do not even required anyone who studied marketing or in the social science field at all. In other words such companies are simply saying they don't need ur field at all, e.g pharmaceutical sales reps, they will only ask for graduates who studied basic life or medical science course.

Because there's no functional HR, your employers subject you to slavery, u being seen as an advanced savage. Its just something that comes with intense struggle in Nigeria.

I rather join police dan marketing. although even if police na d last job for dis world I no go do bt in dis case, I go hug am. or beta still I bcum a priest instead of marketing. GNLD makes tins worst
Imagine comparing police with marketing! Police constables alone, lowest rank are richer than most tellers in banks. before month end they get 3times their salary! Who will even enlist you, you think police is like before where u just obtain form and go home to relax, wait for your name to be out in training list. Go and carry form now and see, if you don't know anybody no level for you. Police is a hot cake now incase I need to remind u!!
