Tanx olokings. Ave truthfully read dis entire thread but 1 n 2. Its just unfortunate dat I ave enrolled wit dat package b4 I found out abt dis thread. I seriously knw I didn't sound convincing enof. I avent gone 4 a visa interview b4. My question can I reapply immediately as am due in last wk Dec n can't wait 4 90days

I've spent a lot of time going through this thread, learnt a lot and had my interview at the in Lagos this morning . As a way of giving back and to encourage you, it went thus;

Me: Good morning
vo : Good morning, tell me about your travel plan
Me: I would be travelling for vacation and childbirth , going to Houston, Texas . I've been in touch with a doctor, I have the Correspondence with me and I have also booked my accommodation
vo: Can I see the documents you have with you
Me: I sharply bombarded her with the Correspondence from Dr F , the accomodation reservation. bank statement, budget sheet , payslip and l topped it with a Scan with my baby's image .
v.o : what do u do and for how long
Me: Told her
VO : What does you husband do
me: told her
vo: Have you travelled outside the Country before
me. Yes, Ghana and Dubai . Mind you, I went with a virgin passport as the old one expired and the passport was even in my maiden name
vo : Do you have family and friends you would be staying with
me: l dont intend to stay with anyone
vo: but you Know its legal and it would help you cut Cost
me: Yes, thank you
vo:How long do you intend to stay for
me; 6 to 8 weeks depending on when the baby comes
Vo: Your visa has been approved , pick ltup in 3 working days and I would also advise you to Keep all receipts and evidence of payment to prevent problems when you want to reapply .
Me: Thank you .

So here's saying thanks to everyone and encouraging you to go back as Soon as possible with proper packaging.

Thanks once again .

NB: I was denied twice last year at the US embassy , I guess as I was still Single then .

Hello great pple,
I hav benefited so much from this thread. I decided to share my experience getting a visa on my blank passport. Please every info I give is my personal opinion. I personally applied the visa for myself and wife from start to finish (advise No 1. Don't use visa agents). In our DS160 I made it clear that we are going to US to have our baby and nothing else (advise No 2- don't lie when filling your forms). Had d visa interview on 31 Aug in Abj. The interview went like this.
VO- good morning
Me- morning ma'am
Vo- (collected our confirmation page and scan) I can see that you are travelling to have your baby
Me- yeah, our first baby
Vo- congrats
Me- thank you
Vo- so have u contacted a doctor?
Me- of course ( sliding d letter from Dr FF)
Vo - how much is d budget
Me- 17000usd
Vo- who's paying
Me- I
Vo- do u have a relative in d US
Me- nope
Vo - so where u staying?
My wife- (smiles) 2401synott rd, Richmond Tx
Me- pampered stay, it's a concierge apartment.
Vo - what does your wife do?
My wife - am a banker
Vo- am approving your visa, pick it up at dhl centre on Wednesday and wish you a safe trip
We - thank you.
(That was easy for us tho I suspect that it's cos I was dressed in my mlitary uniforms).

My wife will be traveling in Oct but she's worried that am not coming with her and scared of POE 's wahala. We planing on booking for arik to JFK (cos is d most affordable).

Pls share your experiences with the immigration officials at New York POE. Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Adios

If she is more than 28 weeks when she intend travelling,i don't think arik will let her fly. Some people on this thread have had issues with arik concerning this.

Hello peeps. Been following this thread since April as a guest and i must say it has been too too helpful. A big kudos to all who have contributed to it ( you know yourselves) i hail una. Before i continue, i just want to add that reading is a MUST for every newbie. Its just wiser to be fully equipped with the info you need before embarking on a journey . most times the info is right under ones nose, use your search button to narrow down and be patient! Its not a sprint but a marathon.

That been said, i entered JFK POE yesterday and this how stuff went down after exchanging pleasantries with the immigration officer

CBP: looks at my passport photo to confirm im the same person. after being satisfied, asks me to place my fingers for prints ( in my mind i was like just like that?!)
Next thing he asks the million dollar question. Whats the purpose of your trip
ME: vacation and childbirth
CBP: what do you mean by childbirth?
ME: ( a lil confused now) im here to have my baby
CBP: why?
ME: ( i actually chuckled) cause the medical care im going to receive here is better considering my first experience in a reputable hospital was a nightmare
CBP: ok, come with me, when you are asked just explain

So we went to another section( admissibility review) waited a bit for my name to be called. Had my supporting documents with me ready to offload on them. I was prepared! When i heard my name, i went to the officer and as he was handing me my passport he asked how long im staying but because i was over ready i wasnt even listening, i went ahead to explain what he hadnt asked about how id informed the embassy about my plans, was even going ahead to show him the paperwork. I noticed he wasnt even trying to look at it, he just simply asked me the question again . how long will you be staying. I told him till Nov cos baby is due in Oct. He simply said you are GOOD TO GO!!! I collected my passport only to see i had been stamped in till march 2016. So basically i was interrogating myself!! I was already settled!

Only two questions. My purpose ( a few mins in between ) and my intended duration and i waddled my way to the exit. God is indeed very faithful. My advice is be confident and go as your heart leads. Also be prepared by gathering the info you need. Its best to have it firsthand. I didnt ask one question during my "jacking" days yet im here. You can do it too newbie

@free2naira i hope this helps. This only happened to me cause i made up my mind to be honest from get go (I can see youre already towing that line) cause my belly wasnt obvious after i put on my jacket. The first guy couldnt tell. I could have easily slipped in, but didnt want that.
Anyway, i have my first appointment at wyckoff heights this morn. Will come back with info for all the new yorkers ( present and intending)

Thanks to all the wonderful ,ubercool, intelligent women( and men) in this group. If i were to mention names.... My post is already too long as it is. And most of all all Glory to God who made it possible

Hello Wonderful people,

I don't mean to derail the thread, but i have a strong urge to put this word out there. If for any reason you decide to stay with a friend or relative for free instead of getting a paid apartment, try to show some courtesy or love to your hosts. Some of the few things they may appreciate amongst other things;

- Carry some naija foodstuff for them when you're going
- You can assist with $50 for groceries every month depending on your pocket ( drinks, water, tissue paper etc. from Walmart)
- Help them with a reasonably sized bag on your way back to naija for their folks back home.

My close pal who hosted a family free of any charge (Mum and Toddler - approx. 3 months, hubby and new baby - short while) had painful stories to share about their time with her. I choose to believe her because we're about 4 preggo pals that have stayed with her to date

It's just common sense honestly. Even when we go on holidays I've been taught to help talk less of when you go and give birth.
I've heard people say but when they come to Nigeria, we give them car , driver , put on the gen etc. The way we live is different so just help as you can.
Even if they say no, go to the grocery store and pick up things they usually use pay and bring it home. If you're truly on a tight budget still make something out. It is well.

Your story is almost as mine if not same. I had already gotten my visa appointment for 29th June before I stumbled on the thread, since then I followed through made some research, went for the appointment was successful. Travelled 11 Sep with AF to Chicago. Point of entry same story as yours only that I dropped most of my documentation with him. I was called back like an hour later and given my passport. Told to ensure I get a my receipts as I will be needing them if I am returning.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed meaningfully to this thread. It has really helped, am sure there are a lot other silent followers. Thanks!

I intend to use Dr Adaiah Ezekiel in Oakbend. The budget sheet is hereby attached.
Honestly, i remember DH mentioned he heard about Dr F's attitude subjecting mamas to induction when they didnt request for it etc but I searched for this info online but didnt see it. Healthgrades and a couple other medical site to check out Dr's reviews didnt even mention anything like it but i knew one day I would get more info on him via this platform. May God help us.

@MumTee, thanks for attached budget sheet. That was very helpful. God bless you. My wife is also planning to use Dr Adaiah Ezekiel at Oakbend but delivery should be in Feb. Can you help with the accommodation you're using and how did you confirm the other fees (Pediatrician, Pathologist, Anesthesiologist etc that you included in your budget? Pleas help out.

@free2naira: Arik Lagos experience
At the check in counter even if u have a fit to fly, they will direct you to the port health downstairs at the arrival where the staff will examine her and fill a fit to fly for her. This is my personal opinion, I think if they asses that you look healthy and your vitals are OK, they just issue u a fit to fly certificate, cos my wife was 32 weeks, Arik says they don't carry beyond 28 weeks, we went to port health they examined measured and gave us a fit to fly certificate, we noticed that they wrote 28 weeks there even though we told dem we were 32 weeks, on gisting with dem, they said they won't give a fit to fly to anybody who is assesed to be 36 weeks . so I assume if you're less than 36 weeks they just write 28 and declare u fit to fly.
The fee is N1,200

Based on experience, i will contribute my quota, i had my baby at Providence hospital in Washignton DC last year september. At Providence all international patients without insurance must make an initial deposit of 12k dollars, now the catch is you will get a 50% discount on your total bill if you register with them before delivery, as compared to the option of waiting at home till labour starts and you call 911, when taken to the hospital they will still attend to you but whatever bill they give you will be without discount. After delivery (normal delivery) i did get a refund of about 1000 dollars, and a letter from the hospital stating i was not owing them. the bill covered anti natal up to nursery and 2 nights stay at the hospital after birth. the hospital will give you everything you need for after childbirth, so you dont even need to pack a bag, even up to pant.

Time to close from work as i am still doing exclusive breast feeding.will log in back to this topic at home and hope i can help someone with my information.

Thanks for this information

anybody used any hospital in San antonio? My aunty just called DH about a hospital there with a total package of 4700 for elective CS! I'm still skeptical cos I don't want to enter one chance!

It's so easy to read POE feedback but to write am na serious work. Arrived El paso 11:30pm on wednesday and I am still jetlagged. I shall come and give my full POE (Houston) and trip feedback once I have rested.
