OP, agreed, there is something wrong with the mentality. Unfortunately, our girls are taught to be dependent on their male counterparts, which is wrong. It is also the same way that our boys are taught that it it the woman's role to do the housework and all other domestic chores, which is also wrong. This is a two sided problem caused by society, because of the defined roles of men and women. The only thing that can fix this mentality is time. With time, hopefully things improve.

I do not and will not rely on anyone's finances. He can have all the money in the world but still be a kerb. I'd rather much have ano average man who knows how to treat a lady right.

Not all women depend on men for money, I sure as hell don't, but I got my reasons why I never depended on men, even in my earlier years of dating.

Mine came down to my upbringing from my grandma. She told me as a small pikin u take money from a guy he gonna expect the puccy in return, so keep your legs closed and say no.

Another instance was she told me not to ask people for money coz they backstab you after they give it like your useless lol.

So yeah I got my pride to me mehn, I've been working ever since school days, whether it be a part time job to help my family out n to buy me necessities.

Plus on a personal level, I just don't like hand outs from anyone.

Ex's have offered to give me money, but like I said I'm a proud woman, I would rather struggle on my own, than be looked down on coz I'm a female.

It not an arrogance thing, it just I like to work from my own sweat.

I don't mind giving money to help someone in need if I got it on me, but for myself? I'll just handle the hard times, I know it only temporary.
