Tinubu ordered yorubas to vote for pdp agains acn, really?.Tell me more...
.............because you asked and I am feeling generous this weekend cheesy

Some here may not understand the import of these results. It shows that after the collapse of ACN/CPC talks, Jonathan was able to secure a guarantee from Tinubu and the other ACN leaders to soft pedal in the South West for him to have a foothold in the region, hence the bright showing of PDP in the West. On the other hand, Ribadu and Shekarau agreed to support one of their own - Buhari, hence the resurgence of CPC all over the Northern States.

These things could not be announced openly due to the closeness of the agreement to the election date, but the messages were relayed to party leaders at ward levels and also to party agents, hence the incident of ACN agents voting for PDP.

The fact that this election throws up is that South - South coalition can defeat the Northern oligarchy in free and fair elections - that is, if Jonathan wins. The great sage, Awo foresaw this possibility in his lifetime which explains his oft recourse to selecting Igbo Vice Presidential candidates, but the propaganda machines of the oligarchy prevented a south-south coalition to see the light of the day. Today, Awo is being vindicated, the south can actually win the presidency of Nigeria without bowing to the shenanigans of the oligarchy.

MayorofLagos:
You are correct.

Im going to be very blunt with this comment.

In order to progress forward we need first to establish a platform from which to nurture the progress we yearn. From our numerous time markers - Kiriji, 1906 amalgamation, 1914 amalgamation, 1957 regional autonomy, 1960 independence, 1963 republic, 1966 coup, 1967 war,1970 reunion, 1979 republic, 1983 coup, 1992 annulment, 1999 republic, 2015 change - at which point did we achieve our optimum best as a Yoruba Commonwealth? The answer is 1957. The progress was killed by Ibos, starting in 1963 and ending in 1967.

When we ruled ourselves in an independent Western Regional Government spanning from 1957 to 63 our people recorded monumental progress. In 1963, Ibos attacked our progress in attempt to truncate it. Unsuccessful the first time, they attempted again in 1966 and ended ruining the entire country in the process.

We fared well after the war and untill the 1992 annulment, again Ibos were instrumental in the political confrontation.

From 1999 we again recovered and were recovering losses but in the GEJ government filled from top to bottom with Ibos we were marginalized from the center....but the damage was eben deeper because they flooded our land with Ibo migrants and using policies from the central.authorities, activated trade monopolies that put Yorubas at economic and political disadvantage on our own soil.

At every turn in our existence in Nigeria, Ibo has been an underlying problem. We cannot sustain our progress too long without first finding a solution to them. Fortunately, one after the other our traditional rulers are discovering too that their domain is at risk if the excesses of Ibo in Yorubaland is left to continue without immediate check.

We must by all means distance our relationship and alliance with Igbos in other to even find a footing ....a solid one....from which to launch a renaissance in our commonwealth.

Afenifere has a website. Afenifere Renewal Group has a website also. If you cant find it let me know.

Some countries are known to have put embargo on certain political class and use political controls to minimize their adverse effect on the mainstream of their society. Whites do this to blacks in US. I see no reason we cannot put embargo on Ibos free movement and excesses in Yorubaland....and do it in tune with the Constitution.

Like Fashola said in his Ministerial vetting appearance at the Senate. Freedom of speech or movement is not absolute! There is a boundary....has Ibo crossed that boundary? Yes and many times over. It is time to begin to relate with them at a distance and under surveillance.
You're very correct with picking out the period of our optimum best chronological arrangment of the time markers and yes, it was killed by the Igbos plotted and executed coup.
However, it appears your entire post is focused on placing the blame of the present rot that accumulated since 1966 on the Igbo while absolving the Hausa of any plot or actions to scuttle the progress of the Yoruba.

The possible solutions you proferred in your post should not be focused on the Igbo alone, it should be directed towards every other ethnic group as well.

How is the emboldened even possible say at state level without it being shouted down at the centre and why Ibo alone?

I'm with you on shutting non-yoruba out and implementing policies to make their soujourn into SWest lean but it should be directed at every non-yoruba, not a particular ethnic group. From this point, we can then work on every aspect from which Yoruba will get back on track as set by our forebearers.

Also, why isn't anyone talking about the Yoruba in Kwara and Kogi? Abi ati dash wan out ni?

I've tried googling these groups hoping to find a website but I've not been able to get anything other than referrals to news attributed to them. Please let me know if there's a way to find them.

In my areas of Lagos, Oyo & Osun states there is NO worthwhile positive development compared to the:

* six years (1954-1960) of Awo
* four years (1979-1983) of the UPN governors i.e. Jakande and Bola Ige for Lagos and Old Oyo states respectively.

And they had much less budget per capita to spend.

I'm with you on this post despite the many shots thrown your way.

I've come to understand, no matter how bad or good a person's reputation might be, it is important to keep an eye or ear out for cogent points in their utterances.

Osun, despite having a number of tertiary institutions, has poor rate of educated residents. I'm from there, so I know.

As a result, bringing investors will mean creating employment for Osun/Yoruba expats to come back to seize or non-Yoruba while the residents do not get employed.

Kwara isn't tricky at all.

Settlement pattern already makes it easier, Yoruba occupy Ilorin south down to Ganmo, Ajase Ipo to Offa's border with Erin Osun. So, the border can be redrawn from Yoruba's portion of Ilorin.

The Kogi's situation is what I do not understand, are Yoruba settled in a particular section directly bordering other Yoruba states or they are scattered across the state or even have non-yoruba towns spread in between them and the SWest?

Lmaooo!!

Ha! - are you saying every group in that contraption is the Northerners' biitch? - holy shiit, I see why these folks love polygyny and they love the chics young, fresh, and brand new. So, they're basically practicalising that on my Yoruba folks, no? Ain't that a biitch? - and these folks are supremely proud of being perpetual biitches and they'll defend one-Nigeria so bad that their quest for being a good wife would make them go out of their way to attack other folks who're against the quagmire, so as to keep the husband happy and fat. SMFDH. Yorubas are the type of wife every guy dreams of - the one wife that will ride or die and fight ya battles for you regardless of how you maltreat her. grin

Trust me, I don't understand Yoruba folks in Nigeria and their passion for that shytehole of a country. It's sad, really. The Igbo question is just a no-go area...those folks are the type of folks you keep arm's length if you're not the type that's confrontational and won't hesitate to tell someone to fvck off for being unruly. Only Northerners and Igbos can get along. And Yorubas aren't generally like that - so forming an alliance with Igbos would be problematic. Evidently, if the whole South can't unite - the only folks that would always be in an advantageous position would be the Northerners, coupled with the fact that the country is lopsided in their favour. That means they'll always call the shots on how the country is run and these folks are the most backward people ever - there's absolutely nothing progressive about them.
You do have a sense of humour egbon shymex. LOL

Despite the humour in your post, it captures the Nigerian situation vividly.

The North in the Nigerian Map isn't just sitting on the South, it is indeed sitting on the South in real life.

While the ibo are agitating for Biafra, the Yoruba in Kwara and Kogi are worth agitating for. If we had the cohesion I spoke of, they could start it in their states and we support them across the SWest.

I think it is mostly the Islamists in Ilorin who appear confused. It gives them some type of eurphoric feeling they are one with the Fulani and by extension the North (dem done jonz). There are other people from Ilorin whose Yoruba identity is non-negotiable not to mention other towns in Yoruba towns in Kwara.

I've not been to nor met Okun people though, so I cannot really speak on them.

I've really enjoyed reading through this thread. God bless you Aare or CabbieAC, IlekeHD and others.

. I'm deeply concerned about the serious deterioration of public schools. This generation of youths are not ready to learn and some parents are more focused on how soon and how much money they can make to uplift the family. That is why we have a lot of students who are part time agbero, okada and Marwa riders. They're more interested in what they make on a daily basis most of which is spent frivolously. As rightly stated before, their role models are motor Park chairmen, 'big girls' with questionable means of livelihood and their ilk. I remember a teacher who told me that her students said she should stop stressing them cos they dont need school cert to be successful. Their example - the deputy governor appointed by Adedibu! God help us.!!

Many of the parents are also not as sacrificial as the old generation. The free education program seems to have brought about an entitlement/non-commitment mentality to our people. They prefer to fight the teacher who tells them to buy books- government should supply! I believe parents must be committed in some way towards the development of their children. It's a major driving force in the life of a child. It doesn't have to be expensive. 1000 per term per child in Oyo state was introduced for that reason. The parents need to be positively involved. Somehow, there must be total reorientation programme for our people. We also need the old technical colleges which was the alternative route for those not so keen on pure academics.

However, the reality now is that those who really want sound education arrange for lessons or go to private schools.
