As long as the Nigerian youth believe it is God that gives employment, the unemployed youth in Nigeria will swell in number.

Before you attack me, I am not in anyway against religion and people of faith but the reality is we need to demand more from our stupid politicians . Not allowing them polarize us into PDP and APC minions.

Check countries with low unemployment, the economy of the country is diverse and growing. The major employers in Nigeria are Dangote, oil firms, Banks and say the government.

How many graduates can these companies employ in a year?

Let's get off our knees and demand real change from our corrupt and inept politicians.

Lol. Right. Tried that angle some years back in Lagos. Walked the whole ikeja-ogba axis, advanced to ilupeju and obanikoro, then scanned VI all within a week on foot...nobody advised me before I born again. Fruitless effort. As in FRUITLESS in caps.

Being recently churned out by NYSC, on October 15th of this month. I have always heard about how precarious it was to get a job in this country without connections, but I did not actually know the gravity of it until now. Armed with my 2.1 certificate from OAU (The best University wink) and my NYSC discharged certificate I thought now I have arrived to become gainfully employed.

I left Lagos for Abuja just 2 days after my POP, alas, after sending out countless applications and applying for any job that fits my criteria, I have not even been called for a single interview!!!.

I was swayed after a week and thought to myself, if I wouldn't be called for interviews I would go in search of the companies my self and make an appearance. I was Wrong sad. I am not really conversant with Abuja very well, but i was determined to go in search of a job physically instead of gazing at my laptop all day long. I dressed in my best, looked very corporate even wore my corporate court shoes that i painfully bought from my alawee in the hope that when I get called for interview by Standard chartered bank or PWC grin, I would launch it. Anybody that met me on the way would think I am a business executive,on my way to seal a contract deal.

Started the long journey to town as I stay close to the airport. on getting there I started from Wuse zone 3, as I had earlier sourced from the internet the addresses of companies that had posted vacancies in Abuja. My plan was to go and submit my CV in person .Unfortunately for me I was even unable to locate the offices as, the Address given on the internet did not even correspond. mogbe moment was activated as I was lost, broke and on heels with no direction. I was being turned back at most of the offices, that was when I realized the gravity of being an unemployed person. At a point removed my shoes and changed to my sanders as i had packed them in my bag. Dejected and sad, I turned back home. And here I am at home again. Glued to my laptop and scanning for job again. It is indeed pathetic.
it's sandals not sanders.
Well, getting a job in this zoo of a country without connections is a very tough task. Anyway, you're still fresh. You will surely get something

Lol. I like your spirit though but welcome to labour market dear. I pray may God favour you within the shortest period to secure your dream job but don't rely on getting job to relief your financial burden if you have capital to kick off a business.

You are very correct. In my days, i remember writing First Bank (at Unilag Multi Purpose hall), Nigeria Breweries(at Law Sch, V/I) and Business Day (at The Palms) tests while i was still serving.

Applicants should seriously learn to start early, it doesn't guarantee getting a job early, but it gives you a kind of orientation.

Hmmm,
I secured a job as an office support staff (office assistance) with a vehicle tracking company before going for my NYSC (2014/2015 Batch B). God helped me to solve a big problem in the company and I was promised a place after my service. Of a truth, the company fulfilled her promise and I'm now a data analyst. I never had any idea concerning vehicle tracking or data analysis but I know it was God's doing.

Just submit your request to God your desired job will reach you, but for the main time, engage yourself in any legal and profitable venture.

In Lai Mohammed voice Unemployment means Buhari is working. Anyway, there are a whole lot of job begging for applicants online, especially international job, but it is mostly available for a researcher and someone that have written papers(published online). For example on researchgate, you see a whole lot of job offers for graduates, Lecturers and professors to work oversea but you must have written a paper to register on the site or you have your alma-mata email for registration.

@OP

I feel your disappointment. you should not be desperate to land a job. if you have wanted to start working immediately after service, this should not be the best time to submit your cv, you should have applied to openings four months before the end of your service.

Other corp members should take this advise because no firm will accept your cv and immediately call for interview.

just be patient and be submitting your cv anywhere and don't put your mind on them. leave your line open and prepare because they will call when they feel like

Seriously? You left lagos to Abuja in search of Job?!

What about those numerous firms that colour Lagos?~ in fact, most firms in Abuja has their head office in lagos.

Pls go back to your drawing board, re-strategize, and try again(in a better way) .

Try LinkedIn, network and send purposeful mail to HRs as well as people who work in the industry you wanna work in.

Pls don't give up! someone once said: "the worst precedes the best!" smiley

You may wanna explore job sites too. Jarushub.com can be helpful. Am sure good news await you. All the best!

Woman! your approach will only work for small firms. Big organisations have formal structure for recruitment.
My candid advice is/are
1. save your money for Internet and phone calls, you will need to be online and catch information on-the-go.
2. Save your time and effort to prep for GMAT style aptitudes. i.e. SHL, Assessment day, GRE, GMAC formats.
3. Save your suit and heels for PwC interview.
4. Refer to (2) above, your prep should be at 90% level. Top-rated companies are competitive and do NOT use cut-off points, they use percentiles. i.e. if they plan to interview 200 candidates, only the best 200 candidates are invited. The top 200 candidates can fall within 90% and 100% test scores. Someone with 89% did very well but MIGHT not get invited.

Best of Luck

How to Invest As a Student in the University

Why invest as a student? the job market is already saturated, there are already tens of thousands if not millions of graduates hunting the few available jobs and ready to take any vacancy that may emerge in the future, the days of finish school present your certificate and get employment has gone, if you are not well connected or a job is already awaiting for you,, definitely you have to spend some time at home before you pick your dream job. see how to make money blogging.
It is only he who wants to waste some time at home that will not invest while still in the school, when your pocket money is still flowing, your tuition, accommodation and all stuff are al taken care of, by parents and relations, it is the right time to invest, but where do you get the mone
