If you have reasons why things will not work, then it will not work!

Change your reasoning very fast. Stop seeing the "gravity of unemployment" See the benefit of been employed.

Cease to see the pain in job hunting, focus on the gain.

God will surely favour you.

Woman! your approach will only work for small firms. Big organisations have formal structure for recruitment.
My candid advice is/are
1. save your money for Internet and phone calls, you will need to be online and catch information on-the-go.
2. Save your time and effort to prep for GMAT style aptitudes. i.e. SHL, Assessment day, GRE, GMAC formats.
3. Save your suit and heels for PwC interview.
4. Refer to (2) above, your prep should be at 90% level. Top-rated companies are competitive and do NOT use cut-off points, they use percentiles. i.e. if they plan to interview 200 candidates, only the best 200 candidates are invited. The top 200 candidates can fall within 90% and 100% test scores. Someone with 89% did very well but MIGHT not get invited.

Best of Luck
I can't agree any less.

Being recently churned out by NYSC, on October 15th of this month. I have always heard about how precarious it was to get a job in this country without connections, but I did not actually know the gravity of it until now. Armed with my 2.1 certificate from OAU (The best University wink) and my NYSC discharged certificate I thought now I have arrived to become gainfully employed.

I left Lagos for Abuja just 2 days after my POP, alas, after sending out countless applications and applying for any job that fits my criteria, I have not even been called for a single interview!!!.

I was swayed after a week and thought to myself, if I wouldn't be called for interviews I would go in search of the companies my self and make an appearance. I was Wrong sad. I am not really conversant with Abuja very well, but i was determined to go in search of a job physically instead of gazing at my laptop all day long. I dressed in my best, looked very corporate even wore my corporate court shoes that i painfully bought from my alawee in the hope that when I get called for interview by Standard chartered bank or PWC grin, I would launch it. Anybody that met me on the way would think I am a business executive,on my way to seal a contract deal.

Started the long journey to town as I stay close to the airport. on getting there I started from Wuse zone 3, as I had earlier sourced from the internet the addresses of companies that had posted vacancies in Abuja. My plan was to go and submit my CV in person .Unfortunately for me I was even unable to locate the offices as, the Address given on the internet did not even correspond. mogbe moment was activated as I was lost, broke and on heels with no direction. I was being turned back at most of the offices, that was when I realized the gravity of being an unemployed person. At a point removed my shoes and changed to my sanders as i had packed them in my bag. Dejected and sad, I turned back home. And here I am at home again. Glued to my laptop and scanning for job again. It is indeed pathetic.
Your Braggadocios attitude will make your JOB haunting task more tedious than you would ever imagine if you don't rescind from it. Man the country now isn't about 1.1, 2.1 or 2.3, a third class candidate can get a job you've been crying for ages to get simply because; he might hv updated and redeemed himself of that THIRD CLASS TERROR. I'm not saying that doesn't count, what am trying to say is that; YOU ARE NOT AMBITOUS ENOUGH, THAT'S WHY WHAT YOU DID YESTERDAY STILL LOOKS BIG TO YOU TODAY.

Op, welcome to reality, but the truth is that there are jobs out there, I mean attractive jobs but the question is when the opportunity comes, can you scale through? You are still fresh from NYSC, my advice is to use this period and add value to yourself because top firms will only employ you when you gat something to offer and not your degree, your degree will only get you an opportunity to sell yourself. DON'T SIT AT HOME DOING NOTHING! this is one of the worst mistakes that job seekers make, get engaged in something that will keep your brain working( not movies oohuh ) no matter how small. You can equally start with internships in some firms although the pay may be minute but you will add experience and value to yourself and to your CV.
Most importantly, put your hope on God because that's actually what we all need to succeed.

Don't give up. I failed Standard chartered bank Test even after travelling from ph to Lagos. I failed fidelity bank test.I failed uba test. I failed mansard insurance test. Access bank never called again. Wema bank never called us even after we passed the 2nd stage interview. I have really failed, but when I found my purpose, failure ended. Most bank guys can't stand me...not trying to boost but when you find your purpose, nations will stand at attention for you... You have all it takes...Don't give up. Find your purpose.
Hope for you.

Since you are still on the laptop, why don't you try another angle. Make a list of all large and medium size companies. Search LinkedIn, twitter and Facebook for these companies, identify their HR or their chief spokesman or woman of such companies and identify the contact email then use that. Be creative and think outside the box.

However, you have joined the band wagon in making the first mistake made by every graduate. Wish you success in your endeavours

Send me your CV let me review it for you. 97% of young nigerian grads dont know how to package themselves and project an image of someone ready for work. Will do it for you at no cost and can assure you that you will get called for interviews however, getting pass that stage is another hurdle.

As long as the Nigerian youth believe it is God that gives employment, the unemployed youth in Nigeria will swell in number.

Before you attack me, I am not in anyway against religion and people of faith but the reality is we need to demand more from our stupid politicians . Not allowing them polarize us into PDP and APC minions.

Check countries with low unemployment, the economy of the country is diverse and growing. The major employers in Nigeria are Dangote, oil firms, Banks and say the government.

How many graduates can these companies employ in a year?

Let's get off our knees and demand real change from our corrupt and inept politicians.
A very short sighted post!

If you decide to make a physical appearance in any office, you may never be given the opportunity to meet a person of influence. In order to get your CV in the right hands, I'd recommend the following steps:

This applies to non IT jobs as well. It would require some financial commitment.

STEP 1: Prepare a Potent Resume/CV.

STEP 2: Make a list of all the companies you’d like to work for: I highly recommend my list of top IT companies in Nigeria.

STEP 3: Find the person of influence within.

STEP 4: Write a letter to the person of influence : Everyone looking for a job will respond to an advert, the idea here is to create an opportunity before the advert is even sent out.

STEP 5: Prepare and Follow-up on possible leads.

I expanded on how to follow each step and do it correctly to achieve the best results @ http://www.techbusiness101.com/how-to-get-it-jobs-in-nigeria/

OP, i think you are being childish, no insult intended. Just ten days after POP you are complaining about not getting a job. 10 DAYS!!!!!, Aba.
And the way you put your degree out there, 2.1 from OAU, best university. It seems you have been deceived and lied to that that was all you needed to get a job. Even in developed countries, peeps are at home for months before getting gainful employment. I am not saying you can't get one quickly, you certainly can. But don't go about with the mindset that there are no jobs or that you can't get a good job. Rather, spend your time working on GMAT and GRE. You are a fresh graduate, so you are best suited for a Graduate Trainee role. Lots of companies run Graduate trainee programs, so its best you spend your time preparing for the recruitment tests. Also, register on recruitment sites like hotnigierianjobs, jobberman, etc. you will definitely get one. Stop pushing this no job idea, companies recruit everyday and they are not recruiting ghosts. Be positive and calm. Take your time. Check online for openings everyday. practice everyday.
This may be far fetched but not out of place, if there is a company in your area that is into what studied or something you are interested in, you can walk up to them to give you a chance to work with day for free, this way you get some experience. Depending on the type of company, you will likely get internet access to do your job hunting. Wish you all the best. Set your mind to win..... wish you all the best

@OP

I feel your disappointment. you should not be desperate to land a job. if you have wanted to start working immediately after service, this should not be the best time to submit your cv, you should have applied to openings four months before the end of your service.

Other corp members should take this advise because no firm will accept your cv and immediately call for interview.

just be patient and be submitting your cv anywhere and don't put your mind on them. leave your line open and prepare because they will call when they feel like
Thanks to all that encouraged and to those that did otherwise.
Before my service year, I have been doing voluntary service with companies. Even during my service year, I was still able to work as a part time worker in two different places. But these kind of work is not what I dream to be the perfect work, Hence the need to search for a good place and create a niche for myself. I did not start the search now. But not is when it became glaring that there are no deserving jobs in this country. I am in the stage three of Standard Chartered Bank recruitment. KPMG , Stage two.But these companies take time to conclude their recruitment process and at the same time, ones eggs should not all be placed in a single basket. Alas, the need to start working.

What has the world turn to?

Ladies are hungrier to get jobs than the guys.

Imagine this story!

I can bet it that most guys who just finished NYSC are travelling from one place to the other in the name of fun and adventure..some will be trying to catch up with their old flames..kai

No wonder, we have a lot of young, motivated and progressive ladies than guys.

Yet these same fun seeking guys will cry their lungs out when a 50year old emir marries a 25year old

It's a pity!

You can try getting a job abroad, apply for jobs in countries like Canada and New Zealand. If you're accepted then you go to the embassy and get a "work permit".

Ok, I didn't want to comment on this thread because it amazes me when graduates come on here to talk about events of their life that ought to be kept personal. Now, get this clear, Nigerian Universities don't prepare one for the labour market. I can't remember any lecturer during my years in school talk about assessment day, interviews et all...... hence the quality of graduates from these universities do not match global standards. It takes loads of self development to be able to match the requirement of top quality firms in this country as a Nigerian graduate without foreign education. You have to see and do many things differently from the way majority do. My advice is for you to be keen on self development i.e your personality, career knowledge et all. There are jobs, juicy ones at that with great pay. Pls understand, it's not must for positions to be vacant for you to land that dream job. Your brilliance and skills could create one for you. All the best.

@op....was only your first outing! I do agree that you should dress very well....first impression counts...but use your sandals for trekking and put on your shoes when you get to the company. This your write up is very serious.... but at the same time entertaining! You write very well.... wayyyy better than the average graduate. I would suggest that instead of just trying to submit your CV...you write a brief about your eagerness to get an opportunity to prove yourself a worthy addition to the staff. Your writing skills alone would make an impression on the reader wanting him or her to personally meet you....and hopefully try to fit you in somewhere.....even if he has to create a job for you. Where there is a will....there is a way.

My dear, its pathetic dat unemployment is a big issue in Nigeria. I likewise pass out from NYSC 15th October. But I've been generating some cool cash online doing less tedious tasks ($500 & more) per month. It have been sustaining me while I keep job hunting. U can engage your self as well by login into http://TheRevenueJob.com/?ref=46825 for details. God help us all.
