I'm fluent in my understanding of 2 ekiti dialects .... mom/dad sides.

But I'm more fluent in orally speaking my mom's dialect. Ekiti sounds so sexyyyy grin

And of course 90%+ Yorubas are fluent in Oyo dialect.

Was Ekiti founded by one of Oduduwa's children?

I believe Ijebus are more connected to Obalufe in ife and most likely left before Oduduwa got to Ife. This is just my hypothesis cos Obalufe is from the Iremo quarters and that looks like Remo. Then you have the Obanta thing as well. grin

Ya parents are proper Ekiti folks. My mum and dad can't even speak Ijebu at all(maybe my dad can string a few Ijebu words together) and my dad is super proud of his Ijebu roots...shame on that nyggah lol. My mum also can't speak Egba but I've got Egba aunts who speak with the Egba accent (sexiest Yoruba accent IMO) and my nan also speaks with a little Egba accent.

His brothe Barrister Sapara Williams was the first Nigeria Lawyer.

Sopona, I learnt Sopona ravaged Ijeshaland for years in those days before they found remedy. So it was this man that provided the remedy. Nice one, local disease requires local cure.

Till now, some local Ijesha people still use sopona to curse someone. They would say "Sopona La Je Ojure or Sopona La Pa Ooooo". My people can rain curse on themselves.

You are doing a wonderful job ProfShymex.

Ijesha folk are great folks - high flyers.

Are the Adenles from Ijeshaland, or just a next part of Osun?

Some Dapo Fagbenle guy that I posted here yesterday...his chic is an Adenle and apparently her grandad used to be the king. You need to see this girl and her sis, they're two of the most beautiful chics you'll ever see. I can post their pics - even their pics won't do justice to how extremely beautiful they look in person lol.

What part of Yorubaland are the Fagbenles from?

Let me quickly post another achiever from the Fagbenle family. I have posted Luti, O.T, and Dapo - all from the same dad and the same schlong (no homo). grin

Temi Fagbenle

Temitope 'Temi' Fagbenle is a British-Nigerian-American female basketball player. She has been chosen for the Great Britain team at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Fagbenle was born on 8 September 1992, to a Nigerian family in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, and has eleven siblings. Her family moved to London, United Kingdom when she was aged 2 and she began playing basketball at the Haringey Angels club. When she was fifteen she returned to the United States to study at Blair Academy in New Jersey. She attends Harvard University. As of 2012 she is 1.93 metres (6 ft 4 in) tall and weighs 79.5 kilograms (175 lb)

During her time at Blair Academy Fagbenle was voted on to the McDonald’s All American High School team. She has represented Great Britain at the under-16, 18 and 20 levels and competed at the 2011 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship held in Serbia.
She was named in the British team for the women's basketball tournament at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London having been fast-tracked into the senior side from the under-20s. The event is scheduled to take place between 28 July and 11 August with group stage matches being held at the Basketball Arena in the Olympic park and knock-out round matches at the North Greenwich Arena (also known as The O2 Arena).
Her selection for the Olympics came after a 12-month period in which she was unable to play for the Harvard Crimson women's basketball team due to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) declaring her ineligible. Fagbenle had taken the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exam whilst at school in the UK and NCAA rules say that an athlete must be enrolled in college within two years of sitting for the exam; Fagbenle took an additional year to graduate from high school because she repeated a year after moving to the United States.

I had a hard time in my Yoruba courses because I keep using Ekiti dialect. On several occasions, I argued with my professor about how I spoke Yoruba because I actually thought I was right. He was teaching Oyo Yoruba, but I kept mixing it with Ekiti. Well, until I got to college/towards end of high school, no one really told me that Yoruba is different from Yoruba. I grew up in a household where Yoruba is Yoruba. I learned about different Yoruba dialect Ijebu, Ekiti, etc on one NL thread a few years back. I called my mom to ask her and she was like "shame on you, so you didn't know?", like seriously? lol grin Yoruba ni Yoruba. I don't care about the location or dialect.

Lol. This is just basically nyggahs in Paris speaking in tongues. I'm still struggling with normal Yoruba, you're trying to confuse me with Ekiti. Thanks but no thanks. grin

Post some Ijebu...I wanna learn that. I know "Eweso" for greetings (I don't even know the meaning of the word but I know you greet an Ijebu person by saying it) - but I don't know how to respond to it in Ijebu.

Okay. But are they Yoruba and do they see themselves as Yorubas? Also, do they speak a language that's intelligible to Yorubas?

And which one are you from - the Yoruba side or the Edo side?

When you study Samuel Johnson history of the Yoruba, it was centred on Oyo Empire and by no means exhaustive of all Yoruba tribes.Basically it was pro Oyo but Oyo was the youngest empire as at then, there were other kingdoms way back before Oyo and even before Ife.
Most pro Yoruba groups across the world talked of Ife but ife became prominent at the time of Oduduwa and before Oduduwa became the Adimula Olofin, there has been over 90 kings that had reigned. If for instance a king reigned an average of 10 years(some would be less others could be up to 50) then Ife had been having kings for over 900years. So what about those years? The Revd history never covered all of ife just largely Oyo.The Oyo were referred to as the Yoruba initially which now apply to all.Historically, places like Ekiti to Ondo, Idanre ,Owo and may be Ijebu predate ife and Oyo
Alot of Yoruba tribes not captured in Revd Johnson history include most of Ekiti, Ondo states, Yoruba in Kogi, Bini, Itsekiri, Olukumi, Gbagyi and Igala,Ilaje, Ikale etc

Such level of high handedness can lead to the king being deposed. At the same time, you dare not be rude to the King or the chiefs.
