Nigeria: Oliseh Shocked Me - Martins

Super Eagles returnee, Obafemi Martins said his recall to the national team was a bit of shock to him.

Obagoal, as he is fondly called by fans was included in the 23 player list called by Sunday Oliseh for the November world cup qualification tie against Swaziland.

"It was a bit of a shock, but a nice shock. I'm very happy, because I have always worked hard, supported and respected all the players picked by the coaches," he told BBC sports

He was last called up by Nigeria in March 2013 for a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Kenya.
Despite being his country's most in-form striker last year, alongside Ikechukwu Uche, he was omitted from the Brazil 2014 squad.

However his good form has continued this season - he has struck 15 goals for MLS side Seattle Sounders - and Martins is determined to make the most of his Super Eagles recall.

"I thank coach Oliseh for this great opportunity. I'm just looking forward to going out there and playing for Nigeria again," he said.

Moses, Ighalo Face-Off In Battle of Super Eagles Stars

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

Super Eagles forwards Victor Moses and Odion Ighalo will confront each other at the Vicarage Road on Saturday in one of the Barclays Premier League matches of the weekend.

Ighalo's Watford are hosts to Slaven Bilic's team who welcome back Moses after he missed West Ham's win against parent club Chelsea last weekend.

It is unclear whether Bilic will start Moses from kick-off following the impressive form of Dimitri Payet, Mauro Zarate, Manuel Lanzini and Diafrako Sahko.

Bilic said at the club's press conference on Friday:
"The plan is to put the players who are good on the ball in areas of the pitch where they can play together, but they must work hard when they do not have the ball. It is not very easy but that is what the guys are doing now.

"We have a lot of skill. Mauro Zarate, Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini are all better on the ball than without it. They are magicians who can do wonders with the ball and if you put them all in your team, you might suffer a little bit defensively but the great thing is they are doing the dirty work as well.

"When the players who are good on the ball are taking that responsibility, then you have a great chance.

"We have a lot we can improve on, too. At the end of the day, we are a team with many players who have only been together for a couple of months.

Bilic further paid compliments to the transfer drive that saw the likes of Moses arrive at the club.

"There is no secret to our success. The core group we had here before I arrived are really good and the club did some really good work in the transfer window," the former Croatia coach said.

However top scorer in all tiers of English football in 2015 with 21 goals, Ighalo, is expected to once again start for Watford.

Ighalo did not score in their 2-0 win against Osaze Odemwingie's Stoke City the last time out but was the chief creator in the game as he provided assists for both goals.

The former Udinese and Granada striker made three key passes and 24 passes in their last game.

“It is amazing,” Watford manager Quique Flores said when asked about a chant in his honour by fans. “I don’t have the time to say thank you. During the match I am focused on other things and I am a little bit shy.

“The players are in the game but the fans are complimenting me. In that moment I want to jump into the stand and hug every fan one by one.

“But all I can say is thank you because they value the work of the staff and the work of the team,” Flores said.

West Ham United, third in the table with 20 points, have a form record of WWDDWW in the past six games while that of Watford is WWLDLW.

Can you put Aguero and Moses in the same class? Aguero will walk into the starting line up of any squad in the World. Aguero can risk getting injured and still start for Manchester City. It is not the same with Moses.

I don't want it to seem like im always arguing with u but i completely disagree.
First it does not matter what nationality his parent killers were, they were killed by wicked people and it is not only in Nigeria that wicked people exist. Secondly he was actually snubbed by the British and that is wat led to Nigeria being an option.
Last but not least Moses was dead wrong no excuses, what do we see in Europe when a player might be hurt? He shows up, gets checked by the Nat team doctors and then the coach makes the decision if to send him home or play him. He chose not to come so he has to live with Oliseh choosing not to select him. Nigeria is bigger than any one player, this is the same country that gave birth to Yekini and Okocha and they would never have done what Moses did. Moses is one of my favorite players but i was highly upset with him when he didn't show. Oliseh is not as bad as people think i am sure he will invite Moses in the future but as of now i am 100 percent behind him.

So, you are saying Moses did not battle with injuries or what? Please what are you saying? Almost every follower of the EPL knows Moses battled with injuries in recent years.

Moses did not say he is not fit. He is asking for a chance to reduce the amount of games he plays because of the injury he suffered. Moses needs to perform well at West Ham to secure a place there or another club or maybe get a chance to play for Chelsea. More injuries will not help him achieve that.

As for England snubbing him, I wonder where you got that. A player could get called up later in his career. So as for that point, is a no no.

See how long it took Ricky Lambert to get called up.

It took a lot of strength for Moses to play here. Losing his parents was not an easy task. I respect him for that. If you guys do not? No beef. At least not everyone appreciates sacrifices people make for the National team. Oliseh is proving that.

what has class got to do with patroitism?? with aguero's class he can contest for the golden boot every year but he sacrifices it for the "friendly game" if u can't honour small invites then u're unprofessional and an unprofessional player gat to be disciplined

but my question is.. why will a player opt out of a team at the eleventh hour.

what was really going through Moses mind? no replacement, probably he thought that with his sacrifice and form 'Nigeria and oliseh will clamour and continue begging him just like his predecessor keshi.

he did it before we went to that preworld cup tournament in Brazil. did it again against Tanzania only to appear at his clubs next match. as if that wasn't okay. he again opted out of the all important friendly which oliseh promised to use and dish out his philosophy.

now tell me, Is he not selecting matches to play?

why do some African players downgrade their country?.

I know and I can bet with my money that he can't try this at his clubside. so why try it with his national team when we have capable replacements.

I THINK I SUPPORT OLISEH PHILOSOPHY ON EQUALITY.

Class has a lot to do with it. If Aguero was a Liverpool player and he got injured, whether playing for them or his National team, they will patiently wait for him.

When it happened to Moses, he lost his place with Liverpool.

Pellegrini did not want Kompany to play for his National side because he recovered from a long term injury. Pellegrini was angry with Kompany for disobeying his orders and playing for Belgium.

Yet, Kompany is back in the squad. If a player like Wilfred Ndidi tries it, he will lose his place because his class is not up there.

is moses the 1st player to lose his place? Oscar's trouble started with a knock in a Brazilian training section not even a match last season since then he has been out of sorts and in and out of the team yet Brazil calls him up and he still goes that's patriotism #if he wants to focus on his club oliseh just gave him a perfect time to do that #he will be back soon tho he is being disciplined nothing more
Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by TheGoodJoe(m): 8:07pm On Oct 30, 2015
It is easy for people to write that Moses excuse is flimsy but let us get something straight.

If I am a coach of an EPL club, I can not sign Moses because of his injury history. That was why Brendan Rodgers could not stick with him and opted for a young Sterling. Same way Pellegrini let Jovetic go.

The English teams play more games than other teams in Europe and they have no winter break. That makes injuries high and a player who injures a lot is seen as a burden to the team.

People do not know that Stoke would like to keep Moses because of his massive talent. Moses is one of the best wingers in the EPL but his injuries hindered him from realising that status.

Moses career is on a downward direction and he has to do whatever it takes to save his career. Moses risked injuries to play for the National team. His career took blows because of his dedication to the team.

Bilic, Coach of West Ham gave Moses another chance to save his career. Moses must reduce the amount of games he plays to reduce his risk of injuries. If he opts to reduce his games at West Ham, he risk losing his place in the team.

The next option is to reduce some of the Friendly games of the National team. Hence, the games will not directly affect the status of the team. I do not know how a player begging his National team coach to help save his dwindling career is Flimsy.

He sacrificed for the Super Eagles in many ways, I think one good turn deserves another. If it does not, why should these players sacrifice a lot for the National team if they get punished when they need the help of the National team.

How can Kompany receive applaud for what he did? He almost lost his place at Man City because he was reckless in his career. Kompany knows we played better with a Mangala/Otamendi combination.

Pellegrini dropped him because of his recklessness and Kompany knows he is walking on a tight rope. Clubs can always buy replacements. So can Man City.

Nigeria are to set up a training camp overseas prior to the kick-off of the CHAN in Rwanda in January.

The home-based Super Eagles brushed aside Burkina Faso 2-0 on aggregate to join 13 other countries for the CHAN, which begins on January 16 in Kigali.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) are now working on proper build-up for the team heading to Rwanda.

“The plan is to the team to train in a country close to Rwanda before the competition,” a top official revealed.
“Tanzania would have been a suitable site but it is too expensive.

“We are sure a more definite plan will be finalised very soon.”
This will be Nigeria’s second appearance at the tournament reserved for players who ply their trade in their home leagues.

Last year, Nigeria finished third on their debut in South Africa.

It is not about club or country power. It is about the players careers. Both the club and country should do what it takes to secure the players careers.

Kompany plays for the top rated country in football. So making England a yard stick does not hold here. Kompany came out from a month long injury and needed one week to recuperate. Pellegrini told Kompany and sent a letter to the coach to rest Kompany but Kompany played for an hour.

That was reckless and it seemed his career is no more that important. If Kompany loses form at City, his country's coach will drop him.

If Moses injures and his career dwindles. Oliseh will drop him.

Moses is not choosing club over country. He is protecting his career so he can be useful and important to the Super Eagles. If he is not doing well in his club, he can not do well for the country.

If he is not doing well for his club, he can not help in making Oliseh's time as Coach of the Super Eagles a success.

Obafemi Martins - His Seattle Sounders have hit the MLS playoffs semis

Obafemi Martins and his Seattle Sounders teammates have qualified for the semi-final of MLS Cup playoff after they sent packing the defending champions LA Galaxy after a 3-2 win on Wednesday.

It was a sweet revenge for Seattle, who lost to LA Galaxy last season at this same stage.
Seattle Sounders led 2-0 through Clint Dempsey and Nelson Valdez, but Sebastian Lletget and Gyasi Zardes hit back with equalisers to take the game to 2-2.

However, Erik Friberg picked out the top corner with an unstoppable strike for the winner.

Seattle Sounders now await the winners of the game between FC Dallas and Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday for the Western Conference semi-final.

BELATED IHEANACHO CALL SHOWS
OLISEH IS OUT OF TOUCH

The Manchester City man played a blinder against
Crystal Palace, practically forcing his way into
Super Eagles contention. What took the coach so
long to come around?

COMMENT By Solace Chukwu Follow on
Twitter

Nigerians in every clime, both within and outside
her borders, got their wish on Thursday. Sunday
Oliseh’s 23-man Nigeria squad for the two-legged
World Cup qualifier against Swaziland had just
begun to elicit grumbles when a one-man
addendum was introduced.

Kelechi Iheanacho has finally warmed his way into
Oliseh’s heart. As the Twitter handle of the Nigeria
Football Federation (NFF) revealed, this volte face
was precipitated by the Super Eagles gaffer’s
decision to review the 19-year-old’s performance
in the league cup tie on Wednesday against Crystal
Palace.

Breaking: Coach @SundayOOliseh invites
@MCFC striker Kelechi Iheanacho
(@67Kelechi) for Swaziland! List now 24
pic.twitter.com/UIi0IZyDo2
— The NFF (@thenff) October 29, 2015

The precocious youngster did not exactly put in a
virtuoso display, but his contributions were
decisive and elegant. First, he ran in behind the
Eagles defence, before squaring the ball across the
six-yard area for Kevin de Bruyne to tap in.

ICYMI: Oliseh Includes Iheanacho In Eagles
Squad For Swaziland Battle...https:///
vN0zQb1pGn pic.twitter.com/B9A7zdVigy
— The NFF (@thenff) October 29, 2015

Having set up his team-mate, he helped himself to
a second senior Manchester City goal, collecting a
cut-back with consummate ease and firing low and
hard into the corner. He then proceeded to put a
final exclamation point on the result, playing an
angled through-ball for youngster Manu Garcia to
finish.

This was all it took for Oliseh to have an
experience akin to Damascus-bound Paul,
Iheanacho gleaming like the noonday sun, each
stroke of genius a bemused query as to why the
rules seem to be bent for everyone else but
himself. Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, whose first-team
prospects have improved greatly following a
debilitating injury crisis such as only Arsenal can
manage, made his debut on the same night in
rather more humble circumstances.

Boasting only middling grades as it were, he rode
the very first bus home, while Kelechi sat on the
curb like a forlorn kid, almost an afterthought, his
straight-As result sheet clutched in hand.

Iheanacho in the Premier League so far this season.

Having been so insistent up until now about
leaving out the Manchester City man, and that for
nebulous reasons, it is amusing in the utmost that
all Oliseh required was one Man of the Match
display in England’s lowest-rated cup competition
to turn his head. It might come across as cynical
somewhat, but it almost seems the Super Eagles
head coach was looking to justify his previous
reticence by feverishly pointing at Wednesday.

Oh. So all @SundayOOliseh needed for
conviction was a statement-performance.
Who knew? https:///kDHNW8Ipf2
— Solace Chukwu (@TheOddSolace) October
29, 2015

Calling him up the first time around (bear in mind
the list was handed in before Oliseh got a chance
to see Iheanacho dazzle) would have been a tacit
admission of the arbitrary criteria of his selection,
having kept the door shut until now. Iheanacho
essentially gave him an excuse to belatedly extend
an invite and redress an earlier error.

A long-overdue call-up will now be looked upon as
an act of benevolent concession, when rather this
is a player who is, for all intents and purposes, one
of the very best youngsters in world football.
Granting that he was decisive against Palace, the
performance was not a bolt out of the blue,
neither did it come as a shock to even the most
cursory follower of Nigerian football.
Iheanacho has already demonstrated that he
can be decisive in the Premier League

We already knew Iheanacho is that good. He did
not attain a new level of transcendence in order to
vanquish Alan Pardew’s Eagles; he played to his
level, at best. So really, what new information did
Oliseh glean from the performance, which was not
already apparent? If the coach really needed that
game to affirm what an entire nation has known
for a year, what does that say about his grasp of
Nigerian football’s present situation?

In truth, there were enough caveats against Crystal
Palace to indicate Iheanacho might not seamlessly
take to international football. His ball control was
somewhat lax on the night, and is something he
must improve within a high-tempo set-up, and also
when faced with heavy pressure.

kudos to Kelechi Iheanachor's for his goal that
gives Man. City the much needed 3 points
— Sunday Oliseh (@SundayOOliseh)

His work against the ball is also a work in
progress, not so much from a lack of endeavour as
a recently budding sense of intelligent defensive
positioning in the final third. Infamously bipolar,
Nigeria fans must acknowledge these
imperfections and afford him the leeway to make
mistakes. If he still manages to decide games with
these foibles, there will be very few gripes, in all
honesty.

The Crown Prince of Nigerian football, now in from
exile, begins his coronation march to the throne of
his predecessors.

Moses is not choosing club over country. He is protecting his career so he can be useful and important to the Super Eagles. If he is not doing well in his club, he can not do well for the country.

If he is not doing well for his club, he can not help in making Oliseh's time as Coach of the Super Eagles a success.
moses is choosing club over country bro cuz he wasn't injured the news I read he said he was trying to PREVENT injury (hu d f**k prevents injury u can walk round ur compound and still injure na).
he wants to focus on club career so oliseh gat to use players available 4 now Moses comes in later

A player prevents injuries by reducing the amount of matches he plays. Please, tell me how Moses who is a promising player facing multiple injuries will reduce his playing time and still be relevant to West Ham and The Super Eagles.

He can cut his playing time by reducing his National team's friendly games and continue playing competitive games for Club and Country.

Look at Oliseh refusing to call Nacho. Nacho was on his own.

City have exposed him and he did well. Now Oliseh wants him in the squad. Do you see the importance of Club performances? That is why Moses must stay relevant to West Ham. That is how he can stay relevant to the Super Eagles by not risking injuries in friendly games.

Former Cameroon head coach Volker Finke

Volker Finke is no longer the coach of Cameroon national team.
The Cameroon Football Federation’s Executive Committee on Friday decided not to renew the 67-year-old’s contract, which had expired last May.

Finke recorded 12 wins, 9 draws and 7 defeats since his appointment at the helm of the Indomitable Lions in May 2013, leading Cameroon to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Local managers Alexandre Belinga and Bonaventure Djonkep will be in charge when the Lions face Niger in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying tie, with the first leg scheduled in Niamey on 13 November and the return leg in Yaoundé four days later.

Obafemi Martins battles Akindele in MLS playoffs

Tesho Akinde

Recalled Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins will battle Nigerian-born Canada international Tesho Akindele in the MLS playoffs semi-finals on Sunday when Seattle Sounders play FC Dallas.

Both players are key members of their teams.
This is a rematch of last year's semi-final of MLS playoffs which Seattle Sounders won on away goals’ rule after a 1-1 aggregate for both legs.

With Portland Timbers win over Sporting Kansas City on Thursday, Sounders are the lowest remaining seed and will therefore face FC Dallas.

The first leg is scheduled for Sunday.
They met twice during the regular season with Seattle Sounders winning 3-0 at home, while the reverse fixture ended in a goalless in Dallas.

yes oh the instagram mata tire me oh what's so hard in sending a message to the NFF that u want to retire so dat dem go just organise testimonial for dem (I myt just go get an insta acc) cuz of dese guys.
I just think moses should be disciplined

Look after the world cup a bunch of player made the decision to retire without including their federations it is not so abnormal to do so, he was addressing Nigerians not the NFF.
Social networks are kind of like peoples personal news channel and he has the freedom to use his as he sees fit. To me it was a well written farewell I don't see any issues with that.

AF Nigeria International Friendlies West Ham United
Why Oliseh axed Chelsea loanee Victor Moses - official

Victor Moses has been flying with West ham on loan from Chelsea but Oliseh has overlooked him

Chelsea loanee Victor Moses has been left out of a 2018 World Cup eliminator against Swaziland after he skipped Nigeria's recent friendlies in Belgium, officials have disclosed.

Victor Moses has been flying at London club West Ham, but he did not impress coach Sunday Oliseh when he opted out of friendly matches against DR Congo and Cameroon as a precautionary measure against injury.

“Oliseh was far from happy with Victor Moses when he withdrew from the friendlies against DRC and Cameroon in Belgium and that was why he left him out of the squad,” said a top official who was with the Eagles in Belgium.

“The player cannot choose the games he will play for Nigeria.”
Victor Moses and his handlers have always tried to stay clear of friendly matches involving national team, preferring for the player to only be called up for competitive games.

The West Ham forward was outstanding when Nigeria won a third AFCON two years ago, but he has now not featured for the Eagles for several months.
