CHAN: NFF To Meet Clubs On Early Release Of Players

By Adeboye Amosu:

The Nigeria Football Federation will have talks with clubs in the Glo Premier League to ensure prompt release of players ahead of the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda, Comple tesportsnigeria.com can report.

National U-23 coach, Samson Siasia, is struggling to put together a squad for the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations later this month with the majority of the clubs refusing to release their players for the pre-tournament camping excercise in Abuja.

Completesportsnigeria.com scooped from a top official of the football house that they are planning a meeting with the clubs to avoid a repeat of the same scenario ahead of preparations for the CHAN tournament, which is scheduled for January and February 2016.

“It’s important that we have a meeting with the club officials to facilitate the prompt and easy release of players when we commence preparations for the competition,” the source informed Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

“We would like to avoid a repeat of what we experienced with the U-23 side.
“The CHAN is a big competition and we will like to do better than we did the last time in South Africa.”

The competition is reserved for senior players plying their trade in their country’s domestic leagues.
It will be staged in three Rwanda cities of Kigali, Gisenyi and Bature from January 16 to February 6.

The Glo Premier League season will end in November and likely resume in January for the new season.

Seattle Sounders Coach Praises Workaholic Martins

https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/obafemi-martins6.jpg
Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid has praised the recent showing of the team’s top scorer Obafemi Martins, especially the Nigerian's work rate in his last three appearances despite firing blanks in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Play-offs.

Schmid told Sounders official website in an interview that the 31 year old forward's experience has paid dividends, getting the club this far this season.

Martins has contributed 15 of Sounders goals 44 goals scored this season and Schmid says the Nigerian who will make a return to the national team next weekend is always business-like on the pitch.

“Experienced guys, we talk about Dempsey’s goal or Ivanschitz’s goal, but the work-rate Oba has put in over the three games, the way he’s fought and battled and gotten onto second balls?

“That’s an experienced player who knows it’s money time and we gotta do the business," Schmid told the Settle Sounders' official website.

“Is 28 still the prime, or is it 31 or 32 now? I couldn’t tell you. It’s probably somewhere in the middle and there we have Oba.”
“There were a few guys who played into their late 30s or early 40s, now you got guys doing it all the time. You got guys like Didier Drogba, who can still give meaningful contributions.

Sounders will face FC Dallas in the second leg of the Western Conference semi-final at the Toyota Stadium, Frisco, in Texas.

Sounders hold a 2-1 lead going into the Sunday's fixture.

Swaziland Recall Star Midfielder For Eagles Clash

https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Felix-Badenhorst.jpg
Swaziland coach, Harris Bulunga has recalled experienced midfielder, Felix Badenhorst for the clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, reports Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

The Mbabane Swallows star is the only new addition to the squad that thrashed Djibouti 8-1 in the first round.

"Felix is the new addition and the technical bench also mentioned another player who had earlier had issues with the team," a source close to the team revealed to the Times of Swaziland.

"The decision was that the player should first meet with the rest of the players to iron out differences that have been there."

The Shilangu and the Super Eagles will meet each other for the first time in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying tie on Friday, November 13 at the Somholo National Stadium.

Chinedu Obasi’s Brother Reveals Why Sunderland Move Collapsed

https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/chinedu-obasi-schalke.jpg
By James Agberebi:

Chinedu Obasi's elder brother has shed more light on why the former Schalke 04 player's contract talk with Sunderland fell through.

Obasi, whose career has been blighted by injury, was in talks with the Black Cats on a move to the Premier League club.

But the move never materialised as the club decided against signing the forward.

Speaking with comple tesportsnigeria.com, Henry stated that Sunderland's desire for a player who would hit the ground running, following their poor form in the league, may not be unconnected with why the deal was called off.

"The deal ended before it even started. Some agents were compelling the manager (Sam Alladyce) to consider him (Chinedu), and he was like 'okay his C.V. is good' but he needed someone who will be very effective immediately," Henry told Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

"And as we all know, nobody comes out of a long injury and is expected to give 100 per cent.
"The club have their issues, and it is evident that they are under pressure, and they needed a player who was going to deliver from the word go, and I don't think Chinedu is that player, not after just coming back from injury."

Sunderland are 19th in the league with just six points from 11 games.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles in free fall on FIFA rankings

Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh

By Taiwo Adelu
The fortune of Nigeria on the monthly Coca-Cola FIFA World Rankings witnessed a further downward trend as the Super Eagles did not only lose seven places, but failed to make Top 10 on the African continent.

Nigeria, who were on number 52 in October, fell to 59 in the latest ranking made public by FIFA on Thursday. While the likes of Cape Verde climbed nine places, from 41 in October to 32 in November and DR Congo climbed five places, from 60 in October to 55 in November, star studded Nigerian team failed to make positive impact on the world ranking.

Ivory Coast dethroned Algeria from their number one spot in Africa as the North African team lost seven places in the latest ranking. Algeria were on number 19 last month, but dropped to 26 this month, while the Ivorians are 22 in the latest ranking.

Ghana’s Black Stars are third in Africa with their number 30 on the ranking with Cape Verde (32), Senegal (39), Tunisia (41), Cameroon (51), Congo (52), Guinea (53), DR Congo (55) completing Africa’s Top 10 in that order.
Egypt (57) and Nigeria are on numbers 11th and 12th respectively.

Meanwhile, Belgium top the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking for the first time in history. FIFA.com says Les Diables Rouges (The Red Devils) have jumped two places on the November edition to replace previous leaders Argentina (3rd, down 2) and world champions Germany (2nd, unchanged).

The biggest climbers in the top ten are Chile (5th, up 4), while England (9th, up 1) and Austria (10th, up 1) have each made slight progress. This is the first time that Belgium, Chile and Austria have ever reached such heights on the global ladder.

Six teams have leapt by ten places or more in the top 50 this month, namely Turkey (18th, up 19), Bosnia and Herzegovina (20th, up 10), Ecuador (21st, up 10), Republic of Ireland (42nd, up 12), Paraguay (47th, up 14), and Serbia (49th, up 14). Four teams have improved their ranking by over 30 places: Chad (136th, up 39), Cyprus (76th, up
38), Sao Tome e Principe (157th, up 36) and Turkmenistan (121st, up 34).

The composition of the top 50 for November 2015 shows little change, with the AFC gaining two teams through Korea Republic (48th, up 5) and Japan (50th, up 5) and Africa losing two, Cameroon and Congo each having dropped three places to 51st and 52nd respectively. The other confederations have the same number of teams as last month, with the regional composition of the top 50 now looking as follows: UEFA: 31; CONMEBOL: 7; CAF: 6; CONCACAF: 3; AFC: 3; OFC: 0.

The last FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking of 2015 will be published on 3 December and could see Belgium take the ‘Team of the Year’ title, should they retain its top spot. The ‘Mover of the Year’ will be awarded to the team which has gained the most points in 2015. Current contenders for this are Turkey (up 430 points), Chile (up 331 points), Wales (up 330 points) and Austria (up 319 points). However,
with various matches and qualifiers due to take place over the coming weeks, the positions are still all to play for.

A total of 172 international ‘A’ matches have been taken into account in the November edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, bringing the total number of matches evaluated so far this year to 840. Qualifiers for UEFA EURO 2016 (50 matches) and the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia (66 matches) played a significant role in some of the major changes to this month’s installment.

“We have already relayed the message to the players’ teams and we expect all of them to come for camp this today. We are expecting them (Nigeria) anytime next week but we are not yet sure of the exact date.”

Swaziland Coach Plots Upset Against Super Eagles

https://www.completesportsnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Harris-Bulunga.jpg
By Adeboye Amosu:

Swaziland coach, Harris Bulunga says his team can create a major upset by knocking out one of Africa's football powerhouse, Nigeria, from the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification, reports Comple tesportsnigeria.com.

The Shilangu will face the three-time African Champions at the Somholo National Stadium on Friday, November 13.

Bulunga's men edged out Djibouti 8-1 on aggregate in the first round of the qualifiers, and he is adamant they can go past the Super Eagles despite their underdogs tag.

"We are still a young team and the underdogs going into the game, but with hard work, we could get a result," Bulunga told Brilla fm on Thursday.

"We are looking at showing that we are a growing football nation, we will not go out to embarrass ourselves.

"We have seen all the games your team (the Super Eagles) have played. We analysed the strength and weakness of the Nigerians.

"We respect Nigeria and know what they are capable of, but we are going out there to make a name for ourselves."

Nigeria/Swaziland: 2018 World Cup Qualifier - Swaziland Prepares Ambush for Nigeria

The Swaziland national team has gone into camp in preparation for their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on November 13th. The Sihlangu on Wednesday started their final leg of preparations at the National Football Association Technical Centre in Lobamba for the first leg of the qualifier.

Coach Harries 'Madze' Bulunga had asked for a two week training camp for his wards to adequately prepare the team for the first leg clash at the Somhlolo National Stadium.

Swaziland have never qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations or the Fifa World Cup and will be looking to upset the three time Africa champions when the two sides meet next Friday.

The National Football Association Chief Executive Officer Frederick Mngomezulu said the players will all arrive at the Technical Centre camp in Lobamba on Wednesday

"We were in a meeting yesterday and it was agreed that the squad should start camp today. We are sorting out a few things here and there in as far as logistics of the camp and match preparations are concerned," Mngomezulu told the Swazi Observer.

"We have already relayed the message to the players' teams and we expect all of them to come for camp this today. "They will have nine days in camp before the match next Friday," he added.

Mngomezulu also allayed fears that league games will be suspended as players head to the national camp, saying he is aware that MTN Premier League matches would go on during the league.

"We will release the players to go and play for their respective teams and we expect them to return to camp after the games." the CEO said
"That has been taken care of and we will not disturb the league games. I hope the teams are all happy with the arrangement."

Swaziland edged out Djibouti 8-1 on aggregate to reach the second round of the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers while Nigeria were given a bye by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) The first leg of the tie will be played on November 13 at the Somhlolo National Stadium in Swaziland with the return leg four days later at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port-Harcourt.

Tottenham 2-1 Anderlecht EUROPA LEAGUE RESULT: Mousa Dembele scores late second-half winner for Spurs
By Matt Maltby

*.Tottenham move top of Group J following the narrow victory

*.Mousa Dembele regained the lead for Spurs with long-range stunner

*.Substitute Imoh Ezekiel drew Anderlecht level in the second half

*.Harry Kane latched onto Christian Eriksen's ball to open the scoring

*.Tottenham: Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies, Mason, Dier, Alli, Eriksen, Lamela, Kane

*.Anderlecht: Proto, Gillet, Mbodji, Deschacht, N'Sakala, Najar, Dendoncker, Defour, Acheampong, Tielemans, Okaka

*.The Belgium outfit defeated Spurs 2-1 in reverse fixture last month

The Harry Kane revival gains pace and so do Tottenham. But what a tricky dilemma for Mauricio Pochettino, who has the benefit of a brilliant leading man and the intelligence to know he can only run him this hard for so long.

The recent numbers have been brilliant – his fifth goal in three games means that not only are Tottenham the form team in the Premier League, but also that they are back on a healthy course in Europe.

Not that it was so straightforward. With Tottenham it never is, so after Kane had given Tottenham a first-half lead with an excellent finish, they contrived to make a mess of things by allowing Imoh Ezekiel to level in the 72nd minute. Up stepped Mousa Dembele, a late entrant as a substitute and a scorer of a quite brilliant goal, launched into the top corner with barely two minutes to spare.

Injured Ighalo eager to return to goalscoring form
By: Adeniyi

2015 has been a productive year for Nigeria International and Watford striker Odion Ighalo helping his club return to the English top flight and so far ensuring they don’t get sucked in by the pressure of the Premier division, but the 26-year-old is not resting on his laurels he says.

Odion who bagged a brace in the last EPL match against West Ham picked up an injury; which will no keep him out for long, but the former Granada forward is focused on scoring more goals and keeping his form on the high.

” Hard work and dedication has brought me this far and I don’t want to get carried away with anything. I want to keep working, learning everyday and be crucial in front of goal.

‘In the first half I suffered a knock in my left leg and I had an opposition player trying to hurt me but at the end It wasn’t at all serious, Its just dead-leg but I’ll be back.’

Mikel is part of Chelsea’s problem, says club legend

Chelsea great, Alan Hudson has argued that John Obi Mikel was one of the factors responsible for Chelsea’s slump in their current campaigns.

Mikel, lately has been in action regularly following the gross under-performance of first-choice midfield pair Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic.

However, Mikel has failed to impress and it’s perhaps little coincidence that some of his appearances for the Blues have coincided with their poorest results of the campaign.

Mikel was started in the 3-1 loss to Everton, the 2-1 away defeat to FC Porto in the Champions League, the Capital One Cup elimination at the hands of Stoke City and last weekend’s 3-1 loss at Liverpool.
He also featured for 45 minutes in the Blues’ 2-1 loss away at West Ham United.

Hudson, who began his career with Chelsea, and played there for six years, believes that sub-par players like Mikel and under performing striker Diego Costa are the chief reason why the West Londoners are struggling this season.

“I think they need a facelift. You can’t carry on with players like John Obi Mikel, you need better players than that in midfield,” Hudson told Reuters.
“They need a clearout of players.

Branislav Ivanovic has been tremendous for them but he seems to have hit a brick wall at right back.”

“When they bought Pedro from Barcelona at the start of the season I thought it would give Chelsea more width, with him on one side and Eden Hazard on the other, and they would open their game out a bit.

.“They play through the middle too much and rely on Diego Costa up front too much. Costa, in my opinion, is nowhere near as good as people make him out to be.”

Don't we have local legislations compelling Clubs to release players for national assignments?

Why must we beg even the local Clubs/Coaches for early release of players for national assignments?
We can as well amend the NFF or League Management Act, if these provisions are not there.

Because as hard to believe as it is we do have a league going on and Caf has horrible scheduling so we can't expect teams to just give up their best players with the league in full force, teams have agendas at this point like trying to play in Africa and fighting relegation. Maybe they should have CAF windows when all teams have to take a break and release their players.

Hope at the end of the day, these same persons don't come trading blames why some of our Coaches failed to meet our ever higher expectations, not minding the constraints they face why on national calls.

Club engagements must not be taken seriously more that national engagements. Remember, the nation's pride is at stake here.

Before now, there was serious clamour for the inclusion of our local players for all our national teams, by various stakeholders, why can't back our words with actions?

Why was Stephen Keshi not having issues with early release of players for national engagements? Even Coach Sunday Oliseh has not had any issues with Clubs when it comes to this issue.

Now why Siasia?

Nigeria international forward, Sylvester Igbonu, was among the goals as his Russian club, FC Ufa, claimed a 2-1 success over Amkar Perm on Saturday.

The 25-year-old striker came face-to-face with his Nigerian compatriots, Izunna Uzochukwu and Fegor Ogude, who turned out for Amkar Perm and played all 90 minutes like Sly as Igbonu is otherwise called.

Ogude was the first of the Nigerian trio to see his attempt at goal saved by Ufa goalkeeper David Yurchenko just 10 minutes before the break.

Igbonu found little joy against the team of his countrymen as he was often harried off the ball on his first touch as the first 45 minutes produced no real talking points.

Two minutes into the restart and it was Igbonu who broke the deadlock. The Nigerian striker headed in from close range past Amkar goalkeeper Alexander Selikhov from the cross of Alexander Zinchenko.

Ogude would have had an assist to his name when his pass picked out Janusz Gol whose right-footed shot was blocked in the 58th minute.

Within seconds, Uzochukwu's goal-bound right-footed shot from outside of the box was blocked.

A minute later Ogude was booked for a foul as time continued to tick away.
Eight minutes past the hour mark and Amkar Perm were back in the game courtesy of a goal from substitute Aleksandr Salugin.

In the 69th minute, Igbonu nearly restored his FC Ufa's lead but his effort was blocked.
Igbonu continued to make his presence felt, and 13 minutes to time, he failed to convert Aleksandr Sukhov's headed pass inside the box.

It was the turn of Igbonu to return the favour for Sukhov in the 81st minute, and just like his Nigerian teammate, the FC Ufa left-back fired off target.

Attempts by Igbonu to score for Ufa and that of Uzochukwu for Amkar did not come off, as it was substitute Vyacheslav Krotov who netted the winner for Ufa to claim their third win of the campaign in Russia.

Igbonu has now scored three goals and helped out with one assist in 13 league appearances for FC Ufa.

Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo could have struck his eighth Premier League goal of the season but his superb curled shot hit the post as Watford lost 2-1 at in-form Leicester on Saturday.

Ngolo Kante and Jamie Vardy, who scored in his ninth straight PL match, gave Leicester a 2-0 lead before a Troy Deeney penalty reduced the deficit.

Also on Saturday, Manchester United defeated West Bromwich Albion who did not feature out-of-favour Super Eagles striker, Victor Anichebe, 2-0 in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

The highlight of the first half was the brilliant defensive tackle by former United defender Johnny Evans who went down to clear off atJesse Lingard’s feet.

Anthony Martial turned after a close control but the ball was deflected away from goal.

Juan Mata then curled his effort round the Albion post as he received a pass from Wayne Rooney.

But in the second United broke the deadlock. Lingard controlled from the edge of the box and placed the ball at the far corner after a miscued header from Chris Brunt who wanted to clear the cross by Martial.

Mata made it 2-0 via penalty in the 90th after Martial was brought down by Gareth Macauley when clean through on goal. Macauley was sent off.

—Ajayi Scores Again In Tunisia, Balogun Starts In Mainz Win

By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles forward Sylvester Igboun scored his third goal of the season for FC UFA in the 2-1 win over Amkar Perm who paraded Izunna Uzochukwu and Fegor Ogude for the entire duration of the encounter.

Igboun’s 47th minute opener was cancelled out by Aleksandr Salugin 20 minutes later before Vyacheslav Krotov sealed the win with two minutes left to play. It was Igboun’s 14th start of the season for UFA while Uzochukwu and Ogude have played nine and 13 games respectively.

At the King Power Stadium on Saturday, Odion Ighalo was kept from scoring in Watford’s 2-1 loss to Leicester City.

Also at the Boleyn Ground, Victor Moses played all 90 minutes as West Ham bounced back from the 2-0 defeat last weekend to Watford to draw Everton 1-1.

At the Britannia stadium, the duo of Osaze Odemwingie and Mikel Obi did not feature for their respective teams. Chelsea lost by a lone goal.

In the Championship, Super Eagles goalkeeper Carl Ikeme replaced Emiliano Martinez in the 57th minute in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ goalless draw at home to Burnley at the Molineaux stadium.

It was his fifth appearance for the Wolves this season. Prior to this game, Ikeme last featured for Wolves two months ago when they lost 3-0 to Middlesbrough in September.

In Africa, Junior Ajayi scored his fourth goal of the season for CS Sfaxien in the 3-1 home win over Etoile Metlaoui on Saturday.

The 19-year-old doubled his side’s lead in the 14th minute after Karim Aouadhi had given the hosts a fourth minute lead.

In Germany, Leon Balogun played all 90 minutes in his eighth Bundesliga game of the season for Mainz who defeated Wolfsburg 2-0 at the Coface Arena.

At the Generali Arena in Austria, Kayode Olanrewaju fired blanks in Austria Wien’s 1-1 draw at home to Red Bull Salzburg.

Kayode has scored six times this term for the league leaders.
In Turkey, Godfrey Oboabona featured for the entire duration as Rizespor edged Galatasaray 4-3 in Saturday’s clash.

Ighalo beats Yaya, Mane to EPL award

Watford star striker Odion Ighalo

Watford striker Odion Ighalo has been named October’s English Premier League African Player of the Month, beating off stiff competition from Sadio Mane of Southampton and Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.

Announcing the award, New African Soccer’s Award director ‘Tunde Adelakun stated: “Odion Ighalo has been tethering on the periphery of this award since the season started. He has come in to the Premier League with a rich scoring form from the Championship, and carried it on as if it was normal”.

Adelakun also expressed satisfaction at the progress of the Awards, saying “the rate at which more and more people are taking to this concept is a strong motivating factor for us to continue this drive, aimed at recognising our stars” while thanking all who made their contributions through votes, comments and other means in making the Awards worthwhile.

Receiving his award, the October man of the month Ighalo said, “It is a great honour for me to be given this award. I thank God, through whom I achieve most of what I have, and my team mates for making it possible for me to score the goals that I score”.

Nigeria international Ighalo said that he was moved by the award and that it can only motivate him to continue to do more, and set a good positive benchmark for others like him from Africa, to make them see that the sky is the limit for anyone who tries hard.

Ighalo has been acclaimed by proven statistics to be the highest scorer in English leagues in the 2015 calendar year so far, with 23 goals (dating from his Championship days with Watford to the Premier League) and he attributes it to hard work.

“I work hard for the goals I score and I spot opportunity and grab it. The secret is always to work hard and to have self-belief, and I think I have both,” he said.

Ighalo’s Watford were hot favourites to go back down following their promotion to the Premier League, but 11 games in, they occupy a decent 11th place with 16 points.

Asked whether there was more to come from him, the unassuming awardee said, “You will always be welcome here to present more of these awards because I promise you, this will not be the last time I win it.”

Eagles defender Leon Balogun - Injured again

Germany-based defender Leon Balogun has pulled out of Nigeria’s squad for Friday’s World Cup qualifier in Swaziland, officials have disclosed.

Injury also ruled out the FSV Mainz defender from a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Tanzania recently.

Shooting Stars defender Jamiu Alimi, who has featured for the CHAN Eagles, will be a late replacement for Balogun.

Best known as a defensive midfielder, Alimi has played in the heart of the defence for the home-based Eagles.

He played the full game in the first leg CHAN qualifier against Burkina Faso last month, but illness forced him not to complete the second leg in Ouagadougou.

According to media reports emanating from Swaziland, the National Football Association of Swaziland has banned the media from seeing the national team in camp.

In a report carried by the Times of Swaziland, NFAS executive member, Sonnyboy Mabuza, was like a security guard at the entrance of the Technical Centre refusing journalists to interview the coach and the players.

Coach Harries Bulunga is currently busy with his team preparing for their 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

According to the report, Mabuza denied the media an opportunity to talk to ‘Madze’ or any of the 22-man squad currently in camp, claiming that Bulunga was asleep and should not be disturbed.

This is the first time local media has been refused permission to cover the national squad in fulltime camp and the reports revealed that the media has not been given the squad’s training schedule ahead of the qualifier.

Meanwhile, some of the squad’s players interviewed randomly confirmed that they were ordered to stop talking to the media.
